How would the numbers even work out? We’d be sending three bargain-bin contracts for Lee’s mid-tier extension. Unless Lee’s contract is really backloaded, we’ll only be sending the Knicks $10 million at most and taking back 15 million annually (assuming the rumored “$90 mil for 6 years” figure is true).
I’m also not too fond of the idea of having ReggieWTF as our only small forward… At least keep Buike and send them Radmanovic. It would at least make the numbers work out better as well.

We’d throw in VladRad.

If they’re throwing in Kelenna, having already dumped Maggs, you have to think even as clueless as this FO is, that they have some kind of a deal for a small forward in the pipeline. Could be just an MLE signing; though my hope is that it would involve dumping for Monta for either Iguodala, Kirilenko, or Childress. Anyone other than those three doesn’t excite me.
Much as I love Lee, I still basically loathe this deal, for all the reasons people have mentioned. To recap…
1. Thanks to fathead Nelson and the stupid ankle injury, we haven’t had nearly enough observation time to get a read on this kid’s ceiling. Can we at least give our young potential stud a full freaking season’s worth of data before giving up on him? I suppose it’s possible that Nellie and Riley have seen something in Randolph’s game or personality that, based on their years of experience, they see as a real impediment to his stardom. I just can’t buy that they’ve seen enough of it to take such a momentous decision. 20. Years. Old. Like BlueintheFace, I don’t want to have to spend the next ten years praying Randolph doesn’t succeed. I have better things to do with my time … I think.
2. The Knicks have zero leverage in this deal, beyond potential competitive offers from other teams. Obviously they’re going to cite potential competitive offers from other teams to give themselves the appearance of leverage. I think we need to hold firm to “anybody but freaking Randolph and Curry” and call their bluff. If they find a better offer for Lee, so be it.
3. Regardless of specifics, lame duck retread GMs really shouldn’t be making such momentous decisions about the future of the franchise.
All that said, if the “second shoe” in this deal involves turning Monta into one of the three aforementioned small forwards, I can at least respect the deal as part of a vision to make us a more efficient, better rebounding, more “professional” team overall. A deal for Childress in particular — a long, smart freak of efficiency — would bespeak a real moneyball / Wins Produced philosophy (though I somehow doubt Riley has ever read Berri and Co.)
If there is no “second shoe” — if all we do is add an efficient, smallish offensive-minded power forward to our inefficient, smallish offensive-minded shooting guard, while forcing ReggieWTF to play small forward, or grabbing some garbage SF like Travis Outlaw or Josh Howard off the scrap heap — I really hate this deal.
Ugh. Much as I loathe Knicks, suddenly I’m finding myself rooting for them in LeBron sweepstakes.
There will be no extra point!
yeah the numbers wont work..but this would,
tufriaf makes about 4
randolph about 1.6
and radman about 7.5
thats about 13-15? dont feel like doing the math..
yeah, and only 1 SF? dont like it, even thought buike is injured. i hope that us landing Lee will cause a SF free agent like Travis outlaw open to comming to the warriors.
I really like turiaf… and azubuike, would rather give up buike but then we have no more SF’s, letting turiaf go seems more reasonable since we have gadzuric, beans, wright, ekpe, and then lee!
if only we could throw in Charlie bell too.. he makes a bout 3mil. knicks only have like 5 players on contracts anyway!
this is such a nightmare...
I hate this lame duck front office. I’m so sick of these awful moves…it’s just like the maggette signing..you can see the disaster before it hits but there is nothing you can do about it.

Keep Randolph
he hasn’t even really gotten a great chance to showcase what he can do.

and I wonder....
why did Minnesota want to trade the #4 pick in the draft for Randolph? Why does New York want Anthony Randolph instead of Monta Ellis? They just signed Amare and have a hole at 2 guard but want Randolph over Monta Ellis a 25.5 ppg scorer? Why does every team that call the Warriors ask for Anthony Randolph????
How can this lame duck front office be so dense? Everyone wants Randolph because HE IS A SUPREME BEAST IN THE MAKING. The Knicks would rather pass on a guaranteed 25.5 points per game to get Anthony Randolph when they have the 4 spot locked up for the next half decade. Why???? Because Anthony Randolph is that special of a talent!!!

he’s younger and cheaper, having just used a significant portion of their cap space on amare and planning to use a lot more next year in an attempt to land Melo leaves them in need of multiple cheaper players.

they don’t

He hasn’t shown anything like that so far.

I agree…people need to stop being so biased and stop trying to make AR untouchable as if he has done anything franchise changing besides showing off freakish athleticism and potential that alot of players have shown in recent years and still haven’t reached like former LSU products Stromile Swift & Tyrus Thomas.
former LSU products Stromile Swift & Tyrus Thomas.
The fact that you consider this relevant information weakens your argument considerably. It’s no more relevant as the fact that Shaq, Pete Maravich, and Bob Pettit went to LSU. Heck, Randolph could be the Shaqtus and Pistol Pete all rolled into one!
There will be no extra point!
Just take Monta Ellis and Brandan Wright, New York!
