TV: ESPN

Time: 6pm PST

Unless you've been in hoops hiding for the past 3 years, you know there's a lot at stake here.

Where in the world is LeBron James going? I had a very well placed source in James' camp tell me in the wee hours of daylight this morning that he was seriously considering joining the Golden State Warriors new NBA D-League squad the Reno Bighorns. (LeBron would OWN Reno.) If that does happen, you can be sure the ridiculous crew at Ridiculous Upside will have you covered. In the mean time, have fun with their preview of the Golden State Warriors 2010 Las Vegas Summer League roster.

If LeBron's not going to the New York Knicks is David Lee coming to the Golden State Warriors? (See RUMOR: Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf or Kelenna Azubuike, and Vladimir Radmanovic to New York Knicks, David Lee to Golden State Warriors + BUT Remember LeBron James to NYC)

It should be an interesting evening.

I think this goes back to my post..

About all this being bad for the NBA as a whole. Who ever thought 1 player would be bigger than the game. Check that, his Ego.

Even MJ wasn’t this bad. And he knew he was something we had never seen before.

Shame.

If Lebron were to hype this up the way he has--

If you were a Cleveland fan

Good. Takes him off of our list of potential SFs. Though I don’t think even Riley’s crazy enough to pursue Outlaw.

Iguodala
Kirilenko
Childress

Whatever happens with Randolph/Lee, we gotta get one of those three. Morrow and Reggie, much as I love them, are not small forwards. Turning Monta and/or one of our excess bigs into one of those three SFs instantly makes us a normal-sized team (and quite likely, better).

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Jul 8, 2010 9:53 AM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

I don't think we should commit big money

by Evanz on Jul 8, 2010 9:54 AM PDT up reply actions

That makes sense if we’re holding onto Randolph and building for the future. If we’re going all in by sacrificing Randolph for Lee, I think we need to make our team as strong as “structurally sound” as it can be, starting now. Dumping Randolph for Lee and then going after Harrison Barnes (e.g.) is the epitome of idiotic planning, imo.

Now watch us do just that…

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Jul 8, 2010 10:34 AM PDT up reply actions

why would that be idiotic?

If Barnes is as good as everyone says, we’d be set for the next 5-6 years…

Curry
Ellis
Barnes
Lee
Biedrins

That’s a pretty great lineup, if it comes to pass.

not saying

we’ll luck out like that, obviously

by Evanz on Jul 8, 2010 10:45 AM PDT up reply actions

why would that be idiotic?

1. With Lee and Curry, our chances of be being bad enough to get a realistic shot a #1 pick are basically nil.
2. Even if we get incredibly “lucky” and finish with one of the worst records in the league, our chances at a #1 pick are only in the 10-25% range.
3. Even if we luck into Barnes, he’s just an 18 y.o. pup. By the time he’s 21 and starting to play actual NBA basketball, Lee will be in decline.

Targeting Barnes is not an idiotic plan. It’s not a plan at all.

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Jul 8, 2010 11:29 AM PDT up reply actions

Iguodala is such a perfect piece it's absurd.

He’s attainable with the addition of Turner to the 6ers, and adds defense without losing a lot of scoring, not to mention he’s thrilling to watch. Not sure why, but this whole offseason has been giving me that exact same feeling that makes you curse and beat vending machines when your snack gets stuck, or total your car on the side of the highway with a tire iron after bumping the back of your head on the hood and dropping a tool into the engine.

Heres the Problem with David Lee

If he comes to the warriors, I think it will bring up the warriors win total to around 35ish. 35ish wins will give us bad lottery luck. We should not try to get David Lee unless we are trying to win a championship and we are not even close to being a championship team. We need to either commit to rebuilding or go all in. I don’t see how and why we should go all in until the new management arrives. Plus I’m not so fond of David Lee’s lack of defense as well. Anthony Randolph has all the skills to be a good defender and he has shown us glimpses of his potential. To those that say Anthony Randolph doesn’t play defense STFU.

by Jayd92009 on Jul 8, 2010 11:08 AM PDT reply actions

Do you watch him?

Yes, he gets blocks, but blocks=/=defense. He can’t guard anybody 1on1 and looks lost on that end of the floor. Saying we shouldn’t trade for Lee because Randolph is some sort of defensive stalwart is dumb.

huh? That’s exactly what we should be trying to do. We are not a Miami that can attract the top free agents. The only way we will even have a chance at winning the championship is by surrounding Curry with decent veterans, some of which we have, one of which we are on the verge of acquiring, and hopefully getting lucky one more time in the draft.

ironic

at the outset almost all the prognosticators had said we would have to wait for LJ’s decision before other FA would fall into place yet Amare, Wade, Boozer, Bosh, etc have taken offers and it’s now King James decides who he wants to play alongside and where. And, all those teams still have room for him salary wise.

my prediction is Miami – Cleveland is not going to get better and with their bigs aging will get worse even if LJ returns and he’s got to see that, NJ has done nothing but put up billboards & the cupboard is bare there, Clippers don’t have a chance, NY added Amare and the Bulls added Boozer but neither is as potent as Miami where the weather is warm, the GM is shrewd, and the new big three can run rampant to the finals for years to come. Very few players get to pick their spot and to play alongside their friends much less, LJ can with DWade & Bosh. Seems like a no-brainer.

Ugh.

I don’t have a problem with this type of trade. It wouldn’t be my choice, but shipping out a high-upside, high-risk guy and a couple short-term spare parts (as much as I love Turiaf and ’Buike) for a star makes some sense.

Just not for this star. David Lee is better than Troy Murphy, but he’s in the same vein: a guy whose huge rebounding numbers stem from selfish and ineffective play, a guy who’s habitually on bad teams, a guy whose teams are even worse when he plays than when he doesn’t. He’s not worth this money, and he’s not worth this amount of talent. This is a terrible, terrible idea.

If LeBron goes to Miami, thenit would be really stupid to trade for Lee

Do you guys ever want a frickin chance at a championship? Well it’s not going to happen within the next five years, with the Heat dominating. So who would you rather have in 5 years, when we might actually contend? A 26 year old Randolph, or a 32 year old Lee? I’ll take Randolph no doubt! Even if LeBron goes somewhere else, I’d still keep Randolph over Lee.

by duballers23 on Jul 8, 2010 4:13 PM PDT reply actions

Well, hold on a second:

If he signs for $15m (below the max by a hair) and so do Wade and Bosh, you’ve talking $45m right there.

They’ve got $4m investd in Beasley.

That leaves them $2-3m before they hit the cap, the mid-level exemption, and a bunch of guys at the minimum salary. It’s a team that desperately needs another defender/rebounder inside and you don’t get much in the C/PR department for the mid-level.

Plus you’re got possible alpha-dog issues between Wade and LeBron.

For all the talk about that team being unstoppable, isn’t Chicago with (if they sign James) Noah, Boozer, Rose, and LeBron just as dangerous, if not more so?

Rose is not as good as Wade, but the combo of Boozer and Noah is a lot better than Bosh. (Bosh is better defensively than Boozer, but Boozer is a better rebounder, and Noah is a very good defense/reboudns guy, too. Offensively Boozer’s a little better).

Role players matter, and Bosh-Wade-Lebron is only dominant if they can find a good spot-up shooter, another ballhandler, and at least one more big man.

by Ronaldinho on Jul 8, 2010 4:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Guys will take less money to come to a team with 2 of the 4 best players in the league, and a top 15 player.

It’s going to show that LeBron can’t win one without another superstr (he proably could, but this will tarnish his legacy). He’ll never be able to stack himself up with MJ or even Kobe. Give them some decent free agent reserves, and they will be very hard to beat. LeBron sucks if he does this.

by duballers23 on Jul 8, 2010 4:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Whether they did it intentionally or not it was unfortunate timing.

if i was david lee i wouldnt want to come to oakland right now

with the oscar grant verdict i wouldn’t want to be a white guy going to play in oakland right now. no racism intended but you gotta think hes not going to get the warmest welcome right now.

If it can happen after the Rodney King trial, it can happen here.

I don’t see it happening though.

Regardless, if he comes tomorrow or in weeks or months

It’s not wise to target a near 7 footer part of a professional sport. I don’t see harm coming to Lee in any way possible. The ramifications for killing any pro-athlete will not go down well for the accused.

Which Lakers teams are you referring to?

You mean this most recent back-to-back championship team which they stole one of the best bigs in the league from a small-market team, a deal in which Aaron McKie was signed out of retirement to make the money work, then cut by the Grizz immediately, something Stern wouldn’t let the Nets do with Keith Van Horn in the Kidd deal? That team wasn’t “classically built.” Pau Gasol was gift-wrapped to the Lakers by the league office.

1. AR is a tall, skinny almost frail player who is an ankle sprain away or worse after skying for yet another rebound or dunk. He’s immature and tried the patient of Don “no nonsense” Nelson.

2. Turiaf has a bad wheel and while he has the heart of a lion he has the knees of Al Davis.

3. Kelena Azabuike is coming off a MAJOR SURGERY and will take 2 years to return to form.

David Lee will not dazzle us, but he will be consistent.

To be honest, I think Wade would have stayed with Miami regardless. He has that sense of loyalty to his franchise that the other guys just didn’t have. Bosh was on his way out of Toronto the moment the All-Star Break passed, and James has been hyping up his move for years now. Wade has always made it clear that his intention was to stay in Miami, despite keeping his options open, and I’m inclined to believe that.

When it comes to it, Bosh and James joining up with him is just a sweetener.

you don’t need quitters. Like Rome said Bird, Jordan, Russell, Magic would rather die on court then let someone win on theirs home court in game 5. And forget about Miami winning it all Lakers bigs will feast with whoever Miami brings to play C and backup PF. They will just clog the lanes and let Lequit and Wade shoot threes at very poor percentage. Oh and we all know Lequit chokes bigtime when it matters the most. The only way they win is if they get the reffs assistance like Wade did in finals with Dallas.
