Joe Lacob has been preaching the need for Low post skills on offense and defense, and some fans (Warriorsworld) have taken the liberty to narrow that player down to 4 options: Oden, Yao, Brook Lopez, and Duncan (yes, they did say Tim Duncan!) But that should be accomplished by the end of this season. THIS FOR YOU. The goal for next offseason should be this:
Sign/trade for Shane Battier. One of, if not the best perimeter defenders of this decade. And that's what we need, perimeter defense. Look, Carmelo is not going to wanna come here, he wants to go to New York, Houston, and some other team I forgot probably because I could care less. But, Houston as a possible destination did catch my eye. So, what do you folks think of this trade:
GS receives: Shane Battier, Nene
Houston trades: Shane Battier
Houston receives: Carmelo Anthony
Denver trades: Carmelo Anthony, Nene
Denver receives: Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins
I am aware that it is extremely one sided towards Houston, but it benefits all teams. I am also aware that it is never going to happen. EVER.
Now a more likely trade scenario would be this one.
Monta Ellis for OJ Mayo, Hasheem Thabeet, and Xavier Henry. The main piece of this trade is Henry, not Mayo. Henry should be our starting SG of the future with Mayo being the perfect 6th man off the bench. We can accomplish this by the end of the offseason. If you didn't know Mr. Lacob, the grizzlies put a trade similar to this one on the table last season. The "no planners" rejected it.
We can then sign Battier in the offseason.
That is a solid 10 man rotation and we would surely make the playoffs.
