Build-Your-Own Warriors "Big 3"

Alright folks,

I'm sick and tired of hearing all of the trade talk that gets us nowhere special.

Can we please talk about your fantasies?

I'm talking, like, video games and fantasy league stuff here. Assuming all bets are off, and starting with our present line-up, who would be your dream Big 3 to see here in the next year or two?

Since they are the biggest story (and the bar against which all future Super teams are measured), let's say that the only rule is that you cannot take any one of the Heat's core 3. Also, just for giggles, let's say that you have to maintain at least 1 guy in the current starting line

For my team, I'm going with...

PG: Steph

SG: Monta (yeah, I'll keep him)

SF: D Wright

PF: Lee

C: Superman

So, my big 3 would be Steph, Lee and D Howard!

game on!!

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Wait … Monta’s on this so-called “fantasy” team? Is the fantasy just to collect a bunch of guys we like, or to kick the arses of the gosh-darned Heat?

Assuming the latter:

1 Paul
2 Kobe
3 Durant
4 P. Gasol
5 D. Howard

Bring it on, “South Beach.”

Funny, otherwise I would’ve picked Pau for my 4-man as well. Great minds? Or possibly just common sense?

to clarify; Big 3, not Big 5

I guess I was thinking more about building off what we have now and what we need to make us a legit challenger to the Heat and Lakers (that’s why I didn’t take Pau)

Also, I know we have suspended all the laws of reality here, but let’s assume that your dream team will need to employ a scrub or two…just to avoid assembling an all-NBA team.
For you video gamers out there. Assume you could force any trade, but are still bound by the Salary Cap. Let’s just pretend for a moment that the new owners are willing to go deeeep into the luxury tax

by Duby Dub Dubs on Aug 30, 2010 12:32 PM PDT reply actions

ER, OK, so no Heat and no Lakers now?

And now we need one or two scrubs?

Strange, I didn’t see any scrubs on your team. I mean, Monta played like a scrub last season, but he’s paid like a star. To proceed, I think we probably need a working definition of “scrub.” I know it’s just a silly game, but silly games are kind of unfun when the rules are so ill-defined.

The big three: Curry/Durant/Howard

“Scrubs” TBD, pending your definition.

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Aug 30, 2010 12:57 PM PDT up reply actions

no hard rules Sleepy

Just trying to see what people would do with our roster if they could make one or two key additions. Don’t worry, you can still win, since you didn’t DQ

Plus, Monta only makes $11 mil/year…that’s about what Jamal Crawford and Luol Deng make. Granted, those guys are both overpaid, but hardly in the realm of a “star” salary…not even top 30

“Scrub” – (as defined by the good people at the Urban dictionary)
“A scrub is a guy that thinks he’s fly And is also known as a buster”
…do with that what you will

Remember:

by Duby Dub Dubs on Aug 30, 2010 1:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Haha. OK, by that definition, both Monta and Crawfish are pretty good scrub candidates…

As I noted, hard rules are what makes all games, even silly games, fun.

If we can have one addition: Howard.
If we can have two: Howard and Durant.
If we can have three: Howard, Durant and Paul.

If salary is an issue, and we need to dump someone (other than the expiring contracts and Bell): Monta.

If salary is an issue and we need to dump two guys (other than the expiring contracts and Bell): Monta and Biedrins.

I’m with JR Repertoire: other than switching around Durant/Howard/Paul and Monta/Biedrins, I don’t see that much room for interesting debate here…

If you do get Iguodala...

why not plug him at the 2, Reggie Williams is so overrated on this blog, he’s a D leaguer, not an NBA starter !!

by Babyface Assassin on Aug 30, 2010 2:45 PM PDT up reply actions

A D-Leaguer who led the NCAA in scoring, totally lit up the D-League, and then came to the NBA and played like he more than belonged: 17 pts (.588 TS) / 5 reb / 3 ast / 1.3 tov per 36 (in 33 minutes per game).

Honestly, he hasn’t shown much less in the NBA than Dorell Wright has. Both have been pretty impressive in limited minutes. In any case, why do they have to be zero sum? You have 96 minutes at the wings: give 38 minutes or so to Iguodala and let Reggie and Dorell split the remaining 58.

Hmmm…..

I’ll keep Curry at PG. Gimme Dwight. Gimme Durant. Just for the sake of adding a little fairness, let’s say I traded Monta for one of them. Curry + Dorrell + Durant in the backcourt, man talk about some awesome rebounding and length. I’ll also trade David Lee and bring in Tim Duncan. Curry, Dorrell, Durant, Duncan, Howard with Reggie Williams, Biedrins, Brandan coming off the bench, and I also decided to trade Ekpe for Ed Davis. I like that rotation. Maybe Lin gets a few minutes here or there, but I see tons of flexibility, a whole lot of defense, shooting, and offense. Yeah, I think my team wins. :)

Keep Curry at PG. Slide Dorrell to the 2. Get Durant. Get Dwight. Keep Lee. Keep Reggie. Trade Biedrins to OKC for Sefelosha (our lockdown defender), Eric Maynor, and Ibaka (if that’s possible). Ok so rotation.
Curry 38/ Reggie 10
Dorrell 24/ Reggie14/ Thabo 10
KD 38/ Thabo 10
Lee 36/ Ibaka 12
Howard 36/ Ibaka 12

Damn. You got the best interior defender in the league with one of the top 3 perimeter defender’s (along with Dwright).
You have ridiculous rebounding. You have 3 great scorers in Curry, Lee, Durant along with Dwight getting 18-20 on dunks and free throws. This beats Heat-maybe.

by GovernorStephCurry on Aug 30, 2010 6:09 PM PDT reply actions

No minutes for Brandan? I do wonder just how much of Dwight’s D will be negated by Lee in that scenario……

(Which is exactly why I went for Duncan, now a Duncan-Dwight tandem would be impressive. Heck, I might just take Duncan over Durant if we’re talking short term here, nobody could stop that size!)

by Missing Barry on Aug 30, 2010 6:26 PM PDT up reply actions

I have Ibaka too. Thats why no minutes for Brandan.

Lee is a bad defender but i think he’s ok even with a center like Biedrins. Lee is amazing on offense and the whole team is very good defenders besides Curry (and maybe Reggie).

If you take a good look at that lineup, it’s basically the current Thunder squad swapping Westbrook for Curry at the point and adding a pair of very good big men. Scary thought…

by WYK on Aug 30, 2010 7:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Basically the Thunder??? I don’t think adding Dwight Howard and David Lee is that small of a deal considering OKC has no size.

Take out Lee and Howard from your fantasy lineup and that’s pretty much the same as what the Thunder have now besides the glaringly obvious Westbrook-Curry switch. The “basically Thunder” part is to emphasize that fact and gives us all some interesting food for thought; once they add a great big man (even just one), they’re going to be pretty damn good.

by Sleepy Freud on Aug 31, 2010 5:26 AM PDT up reply actions

i will.

As long I have the first round pick from Minny which will be lottery pick.

I still believe that Beasley, given the chance, could be an offensive juggernaut ala Kevin Durant. He’s big and fast and will cause matchup problems on both forward spots. He made some knucklehead decisions i know, but i’ll take that gamble.

Im not saying he’s better than Steph. They are two way different players to compare i think. But i just think (okay, provided he leans to the good direction) that Beasley will cause more defensive problems on opponents.

And I get a 1st round pick I can use or trade to get another solid player to compliment him.

Yes i don’t mind if you call me “out of my mind.” But i’ll take this trade.

by Yoki R on Aug 31, 2010 6:19 AM PDT up reply actions

okay I’ll call myself out of my mind before you do. So after a good thought, i’ll backpedal. But not completely. I’ll see what Beasley can do for the next 2-3 years first before I pull this one if they offer it.

by Yoki R on Aug 31, 2010 6:40 AM PDT up reply actions

I still believe that Beasley, given the chance, could be an offensive juggernaut ala Kevin Durant.

LOL. Beasley’s been given a chance: two NBA seasons, in which he’s shown himself to be an inefficient scorer, poor rebounder, poor passer/playmaker, and poor defender. Alarmingly, in his second season he actually regressed. He’s undersized for his position, not particularly athletic, and plays the one position at which we have an established NBA star. He’s basically a destitute, starving, dying man’s David Lee. His knuckleheadedness may actually be the least of his problems.

Yeah, you could get a solid player to compliment him, but I suspect the last thing that loser needs is his ego stroked.

Edit: OK, I’ll accept your backpedal. I’m pretty sure when the Pacific Standard Time crew wakes up, they’re not going to be overly enthused at the notion of trading Curry for Beasley…

by Yoki R on Aug 31, 2010 10:47 AM PDT up reply actions

he only had two seasons.

He still looked solid last season, but I agree on everything you said (especially the rebounding, he can rebound, but he doesn’t have the mentality and the drive to chase rebounds though.).

But I just thought there’s still a lot of room for him to improve. Especially now that he’s not gonna live in D-Wades shadow and be one, if not the offensive option for Minny. The guy’s still young, he’s got room to grow basketball and maturity wise. So for me I won’t call him a scrub. At least not yet.

But the knuckle headedness though is what made me backpedal. I realized it might be too much of a gamble. I realized it was too moronic to consider Curry for Beasley (right now), I probably had too much hot chocolate.
