Try Jon Scheyer in training camp?
If only to make up for Joe Ingles nearly poking away his basketball livelihood, perhaps we could bring Jon Scheyer into camp as a potential back-up at the 1/2? Apparently he's now cleared for basketball. I'm not sure why he's no longer going to the Jazz camp (some unsubstantiated rumors that his hometown Bulls may be interested) but if he is still available he seems worth a try.
I know he is often referred to as unathletic (though that may simply be a euphemism) and that his wingspan isn't fab, but he's a legit 6'5" with a solid rep as a defender, a great assist/to ratio, a good shooter and an efficient scorer (see his 21 points in 75 seconds in HS). By all measures he's a good character guy and a consistent winner. Oh yeah, and to match the J Lin demographic conspiracy theorists, he could drive ticket/jersey sales amongst the Bay Area Jewish community. Maybe we'd even get to see the Rally Rabbi more than once a year?
Would he be a worthwhile camp invitee as a guard? If not, who else should/are the Warriors bringing to camp?

I would mind.
He isn’t athletic, won’t be able to keep up with NBA guards and he won’t be able to get to the rim.

not at all
but…
He isn’t athletic, won’t be able to keep up with NBA guards and he won’t be able to get to the rim.
Thats what Curry was coming out of college to most analysts

he seemed to do all right in the summer league...
and he had the same challenges in college of not being as athletic but he’s a big guy for a pg and we could at least give him a try…

he can flat out shoot the ball
anytime you can shoot you can find a place in the nba. hes definitely going to need to work on his defense however.
The guy is 6’5 with a 6’3 wingspan. He is a good shooter, but not a great one. He doesn’t rebound, and he couldn’t shoot above 40% from the field in college. This is a case of Adam Morrison type player, but probably even worse.

would you put him in the "t-rex arms" group?

Yeah, we give Monta grief for that,
and Scheyer is much worse, and less athletic.

My inner blue devil
is saddened that people are dismissing adding a guy who led the nation in assist to turnover ratio
given our strengths and weaknesses, I’d say he’d be a great third string PG, especially considering his ability to shoot the ball and his leadership skills.
also, he’s a pretty good athlete. he has the same case of “white boy from duke = unathletic” stereotype that did Redick in (6th man and future starter for a championship contender).
i’m not saying he’s going to be a solid NBA player, but he’s definitely worth giving a season or two as 11th man.
There’s really no harm at all in bringing this guy to training camp. Give me at least one compelling reason to give someone a camp invite, and I’ll probably go along with it. This isn’t a guaranteed roster spot we’re talking about—just a chance to earn one.
heart of a champion, will of the warrior.
Agreed on giving players a chance to showcase themselves.
It’s only a chance to prove he can make the team not a guaranteed contract. Bring him in & give him a chance. I’m not seeing any risk on the Warriors part.
agreeed..
if he doestn pan out then we get to keelhaul him… or make him walk the plank… or or marooon him in some godforsaken piece of land….

does anybody remember the last time we gave a Dookie a shot?
DeMarcus Nelson ring a bell anybody? I love how Nellie made him the de-facto starting point guard for the first few games, pulled him out after 10 minutes each time. Then stopped playing him altogether, and he was released by January of the same season. A classic example of Nellie’s nourishing ways

Scheyer is different
as much as I loved DeMarcus, he was not an NBA player. He turned the ball over, and couldn’t shoot. Jon is a good shooter, and, I repeat, had the best assist-to-turnover ration in the entire nation last year.
