The Rudy Fernandez rumors just won't go away. (Anthony Randolph to Pacers) [Posting and Toasting]
Did the national/ local media and fans alike vastly overrate Anthony Randolph? It's pretty surprising that he's even rumored in a trade for Rudy Fernandez. Also note that Kelenna Azubuike is still (very sadly) injured.
I remain impressed that Larry Riley was able to net David Lee this offseason.

Although Randolph very well might have been overrated by local and national media (as many young athletic players with "potential" are)
I don’t think that judging whether a player is overrated or not by the trade rumors that they are involved in is a good way of deciding that. Also, remember that even if the trade really was offered (and who knows if it actually was) it got rejected for a reason…
That and both the poster as well as the people replying are adamantly opposed to getting rid of AR, so I really do not know where AB1 is coming from with this one.

"so I really do not know where AB1 is coming from with this one."
pretty simple really. he probably means that if AR’s value around the league is perceived to be akin to Rudy Fernandez’s, perhaps dub fans and knick fans may be guilty of a little homerism.

According to a team source, Knicks president Donnie Walsh recently rejected a three-team deal that would have sent Anthony Randolph to Indiana, a first-round pick to Portland and Fernandez to New York.
I don’t see where his value is low I see “let’s give you someone who really does not want to be here for your prospect”. Then I see the Knicks laughing before they hang up.

It's not that surprising to me
After all, our Stephen Curry was in the trade rumors for Carmelo Anthony recently. It would be more surprising to me if the Knicks “offered” Randolph in a trade, considering Randolph was the player they wanted to get.
A lot of people reported Kicks were keen on Randolph for a future trade..
They aren’t looking to rebuild, but a trade centered around randolph, draft pick and expirings might be able to attract CP3 or Melo
It's not as much that the Knicks were keen to trading Anthony in the future,
It’s that Denver more or less required that either Randolph or Gallinari (potentially even both) be included before they even consider a Melo to NY trade.

Too bad about Buike. It’s a cut throat business. At least he got a little money on the books before he got hurt. He seems like a hard worker so hope he ends up with a successful career.
My take on Randolph is that he is a complete enigma to the rest of the league. No one (even he, I imagine) seems to know what to expect from him, which doesn’t make much sense to me. I have a pretty good idea of what kind of a player he is. He is a great rebounder and shot blocker, who is capable of making highlight-reel plays off the dribble, is too in-love with his jumpshot, fouls way too much, and is generally kind of a headcase. Everyone seems to think he is either boom or bust. I can imagine a pretty clear scenario in which he doesn’t really change all that much from who he is right now.
The Blazers are doing this dangle thing pretty well though. They have a marginal asset in Rudy Fernandez. He’s not that good, which is why they don’t mind moving him. But they know at some point, some team might be dumb enough or desperate enough to give up a high-reward potential player like AR. Rather than just dumping Rudy for Jamal Crawfor(d) or some other warm body, they are treating an asset like an asset.

Anthony Randolph(reposted)
I’ve taken Randolph’s skills/potential into careful consideration during his early tenure. While my observations probably differ from yours, I’ve come to some conclusions about the kind of player I think he will be in this league. The main thing about the David Lee trade, is that it immediately upgrades the talent level, politics, and chemistry of your team, which is essential during a time that marks significant change. There is a sense of urgency, that in order for this new ownership to take it’s strongest effect, it must do so by taking less of a gamble in immediate regards to how it performs within the observation of the league for the first 3 years.
David Lee makes everybody on the team better, in some way – Even Monta Ellis. I don’t think Randolph is that kind of player. Right now, he arguably makes players worse, with his complete misunderstanding of the playbook, where to be on offense relative of the ball, and his black hole nature once he receives it. I’m not sure what kind of post game he will develop, but at this point in his career, it appears he’s making a push towards becoming a Durant/Odom kind of player. A perimeter forward.
He seems uncomfortable on the block, both from a talent perspective, and a mentally fueled one. His enjoyment of the game and self depiction as a player, lies heavily on his ability to dribble the ball and slash. I was disenchanted by his fixation on preferring the ball at 16 feet, rather than on the block. His observation and aspiration of his own game, is a bit faulty. I would be a bit more open to thinking he’s able to take on a different mentality, if he were a bit more mature, and humble about his talents. In other words, if he chooses to continue to develop perimeter skills(which by indication he will), then I’m not confident in his ability to be a true superstar. He will make plays on both ends, no doubt, but he wouldn’t be the player he could be, and that player would (if everything worked out accordingly) be better than David Lee, almost without a doubt.
Again, in hindsight, if he prefers to be a perimeter forward (Amare for the max, at the 4 would also support this notion) I’m not confident he would be any better than your above average SF. His shot blocking and rebounding would obviously set him above his peers in those categories, but as far as his potential as an offensive force, we’re looking at shooting, ball handling, and passing – Skills I think many small forwards would have him beat. Sure, he creates a mismatch, but what good is a mismatch if you’re not particularly masterful at any of these things. Not to mention, his perimeter on ball defense does not look very strong, and I think the mismatch he creates on the other end would cancel itself out in this respect. At a lanky 7 feet, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to keep up with prototypical wings. He’s athletic for his size, but even the most athletic players of his height would struggle against the more mobile players 6’5 – 6’8 out there.
When Randolph says things like "I want to be one of the best to ever play the game." While I admire his confidence, his self image as a player can also be a hindrance. If he’s fixed on being "one of the greatest of all times" as a SF/perimeter 4, I think he’s in danger of becoming a career volume scorer. His personality + this ingredient, is not something I’d look forward to. If he does in fact improve to be in the all-star conversation some day, (whenever that may be) I suspect it won’t be as a player free of some pretty glaring flaws.
I am not too confident in his leadership skills. I’ve been extremely discouraged with his body language at times. I’ve seen players bust him out on the sideline during timeouts for making very dumb mistakes, and have watched him exit the game mentally, after moments like that. Well, he’s young, right? Sure, but then again, there are players his exact age who show mountains of maturity by comparison. He’s not a natural leader. David Lee is a natural leader, both vocally, and by example. All-star players who share his hustle along with his annual income, are few and far between.
Again, I would be much higher on Anthony if I he would show me some semblance of a post game. Well this can be taught and developed, right? Sure, but you have to consider the scale on which to expect such improvements. I don’t see any natural ability at all in the post. I rarely have seen him make a move towards the basket and use his pivot to go to one side, and come back the other. Not a lot of creativity. A lot of stubborn, athletically spurred, pissing contests. I noticed he’d much rather prefer to go away from the basket and shoot a fade-away jump shot. Also, I’m not impressed with his touch around the basket. These are skills that come a bit more naturally, and it’s not like he’s 16 years old. I’ve seen him miss many point blank shots, and I’ve often seen him misread the defense in coordination to finding an opening to get off a high percentage shot. I don’t like his instincts on the block.
I’m not sure how much better Randolph will be than Lee, and like you said, it’s uncertain to know if he can even be as good as Lee. Riley’s genius lies more in the realm of his ability to construct a lineup that theoretically fits twice as well as the one we had last year, while he managed to do this in such short time’s notice. He’s shown initiative, and ambition is a trait found in all great men.
We will not know for a couple of years who got the better end of that trade. But that’s sort of the whole point. Even if Randolph does turn out to be an awesome superstar(which for the above reasons, I think he will not), David Lee is not a bad consolation prize, especially given the nature of his role within the confines of the designed roster.
Contractually, I think Randolph will demand a large salary before his time as a proven player is due. I think teams will then be in a dangerous position of overspending to keep him. Popular trend is to pay big men with that kind of athletic ability around the 9-10 mil dollar range. I would hate for the Warriors to have had to make that call.
I apologize for reposting this, as I’m aware it seems a little presumptuous, but this is pretty much my only take on Randolph…

Very nice take. I disagree with more or less none of it.
I recently read an essay by Chuck Klosterman about Ralph Sampson, a giant who seemed to want to play like a guard. Sampson was a very good player for a few years before injuries got to him, but he never realized the “revolutionary” potential he was supposed to have, coupling the skills of a SF with a body that towered over other centers. Klosterman’s take was that Sampson wasn’t a 7’4" center with the skills of a 6’8" SF, but was in actuality the 6’8" SF who had an extra 8" of height that mostly went to waste when he spent time being the SF. Sure he could shoot over anyone, but he could also miss over anyone when the factor was a hand in the face blocking his view for a jumper that’s not as automatic as the dunks or layups he’d have in the post. And when he put the ball on the floor, all advantage went away.
Sampson had a bigger height advantage and better skills. Randolph is in danger of trying to employ skills that would be mediocre or worse for a 6-7 guy and make this work by exploiting a 3 or 4 inch height advantage. In the paint, that may work, but on the perimeter, it’s not enough to get the job done. If he realizes that he’s more Marcus Camby (who, as it was, was also touted for having more ‘athleticism’ and ‘skill’ when drafted than your average big) and that he’s not a Scottie Pippen augmented with 3 or 4 inches of height, He could be very, very useful and valuable, albeit unlikely to be assigned superstar status. If he doesn’t realize this, he’s more likely to fall far short of expectations.

Rudy Fernandez can't be worth much ....
We have a player who isn’t good enough to be a starter and everybody knows the Blazers are trying to move him …. the Blazers are dreaming if they think they’ll get a first round pick for Rudy.
If this trade rumor is real, Indiana had a shot to pull off another great deal this off-season.
btw,
INot much of a Knicks fan, so does anyone know if Rudy is viewed that highly by Knicks managment? If the Knicks want him that bad, I’m sure plenty of teams are willing to jump into the ring & join the Knicks/Blazers in a multi-team trade.
NYK wasn't trying to trade him
Indy was trying to get him

the point he’s trying to make is that the Blazers and/or Pacers felt this was a legitimate offer for the likes of Anthony Randolph and he expresses shock that AR would even be mentioned in a trade for the likes of Rudy Fernandez.

I like Rudy Fernandez
But I can’t help feeling there’s a chance it’s cover to trade Monta
Indiana trying to trade small for big, huh? Somehow, I don’t think the Knicks are dumb enough to trade a guy who can average 10 boards a night, 1.5 blocks and a whole lot of trying way too hard and rushing things… well… that last part isn’t so good, but you know what I mean.
Randolph has too much up-side, even if he is overrated, to be traded for Fernandez. If Randolph has a jumper this year, he’ll be less harmful on offense. It’ll make him interesting, that’s for sure.
Welcome to the Pit of Despair! Don't even think about trying to escape.
AR = BUST
AR ain’t nothin’ special. His basketball IQ (smarts) ain’t good. He’s a spoiled, immature baby who pouts. Does he come ready to play? No. Is he hungry? No. I’ll take a hungry D-leaguer anyday. AR expects it to be given to him. He was coddled by soft Bay Area fans. The Garden fans only want ‘hustle’. AR will get roasted there.

Just curious
I made a comment on this page about the Blazers and saw there was a response to it so I went here to look and sure enough I can’t find it. Just curious what happened is all, since it was a pretty benign comment.
Because talent? You want to add a guy like boozer because hes talented? I’m sorry i just don’t see that as a valid reason. -- fffindeed
Let us know if you hear back why
I’ve noticed some seemingly minor comments disapear too

never heard back
I am guessing it must have started an interesting thread of some sort. I could be wrong but I seem to recall all I said was that the Blazers are stingy in trade talks and were rumored to even turn down Nicole Batum for the 4th pick with the TWolves this past draft (although yeah I like Batum).
Oh well.
