So we don't want Prince

I love how he is honest about players who he is and isn’t going after, now he said 3 year 30 mil type guys for expirings is very possible. He said they may be overpaid but might be worth it. Who is he talking about? Philly fans think Iggy is very overpaid. But there are 2 or 3 of them out there that he’s thinking about

“They’re pretty easy decisions for me. They’re not what we’re interested in. But you’re right. It’s hard. We may have to overpay to add a player.”

Easy decision ? To say no or yes to?

. I’m a huge Monta Ellis fan right now. Frankly, he is the guy in this franchise. There is no question about it. And he’s earned it.

I like it

And, by the way, I hope I don’t get in trouble for this … He doesn’t seem to get the calls, whereas others do

If you put everything in this and the TK interview together… he really might be going for Iggy.

We might be better if we had a defensive stopper kind of guy on the perimeter somewhere.

-Q: Dorell Wright?

-LACOB: He’s good. But having another one probably would be helpful.
What I would really love to do is to pull off the deal to get a superstar. There’s one or two of them out there.
There are one or two players out there that are interesting – good players, but they have big money. They’re overpaid, I would say. But we still might do it.

Iggy is probably the closest thing to a superstar available besides Melo. He also seems to want a big that can defend, but it isn’t really clear where that will come from… Greg Oden?

Thats what I though too

But is Iggy a superstar? I guess a star but a superstar?

I’d LOVE Oden, with his injuries and him being a FA he can’t command a lot of money, say we trade Gaz as the biggest expiring in a package for Iggy , we’d b e3-4 mil under the cap or something like that. 3 years 12 mil sounds nice. Lacob doesn’t care about the luxury either . I’d be willing to put Amundson in any of our trades as well , it sounds like something will happen but not soon

I think Oden is definitely worth a shot – low cost / high reward. I’d pull off the trade, although I thin for us to do it, Udoh will have to be playing a lot better than he is right now to make up for the loss of Gaz since Oden won’t be ready this season.

Well, I did say he was the “closest thing to a superstar” available. The definition of a superstar is always super fuzzy. Lacob’s quote makes it sound like the second guy is on the cusp, but I really can’t come up with names other than Granger and Iggy of players that make sense in the context. Iggy is probably more popular nationwide, if only because of his time with Iverson…

by samuraaaaiiiiiii on Jan 21, 2011 2:04 PM PST up reply actions

yeah, I agree that the most likely guy, based on Lacob’s comments seems to be Iggy

but damn, not sure I would give up Steph to get him…probably wouldn’t.
But expirings? dreamy
Toss in BWright, or (more reluctantly Udoh) and I’m still down

He was asked about trading the expirings for a impact guy in one of the last couple interviews

I think thats what he’s looking at, Steph for Iggy? No way

Looking at the Philly site, someone suggested TROY MURPHY for him and didn’t really get a backlash…… They don’t like him over in Philly

nicely done dubzfan

I may have enjoyed reading your recap more than the actual link

Your reply was successful, that’s just how the formatting works.

It’s true, Lacob reads GSoM.

You can’t tell a player to sign here. Danny Granger, I think, said something about the weather. I don’t know if that’s real or not real. It’s crazy if he really believes that. But there’s a guy, if that’s true, who wouldn’t come here, to use an example.
He doesn’t seem to get the calls, whereas others do. Maybe I’m just a biased owner or biased fan but it sure feels that way to me when I watch the game.

Hey WTF man.

I posted this first. You deleted mine and posted your own. May I please have an explanation for why you did this?

by YoMamaIsAgiant on Jan 20, 2011 11:33 PM PST reply actions

Actually, mosdl posted it first.

PMC evidently thought it was a timely and important enough piece to merit a front page story. I agree.

To spare readers the confusion of sifting through multiple threads on the same topic, sometimes redundant diaries are hidden. Nothing personal, obviously.

There will be no extra point!

The interview posted by mosdl is an interview with Kawakami. Mine was with Steinmentz, just like this one, and I posted it about 8 minutes before commish did. Thanks for the clarification though.

Whoops, sorry for the mix-up. My bad.

Basic point stands. If a duplicate fanpost or fanshot already has a bunch of interesting comments in it, it usually stays up. If it’s noticed early, the mods will usually hide in the interests of streamlining the site. If a poster has clearly beaten GSoM to the story, the GSoM diary will usually give him or her a call-out.

There will be no extra point!

this got me really excited.

You need to understand and the fans need to understand: Nothing will prevent us from winning the NBA championship. Nothing. There is no way we’re not going to win.

but gilbert and prokorov said same thing. so whos gonna win ’ship first? nets gsw or cavs?

Whoever gets a legitimate franchise player to build around first. So far Gilbert had one, and missed. I really doubt his motivation. You have the best player in NBA, you don’t make finals despite a 66 win season and it’s clear you don’t have a good enough supporting cast or coach. Your best player is clear on his desire to win and willingness to test free agency if he doesn’t. I would think that would be enough motivation to make some big moves in summer of 2009. Something like a more for amare that they balked at because they didn’t want to lose JJ Hickson.

So much of winning a championship is luck. Luck in getting Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Shaq etc. But good management is able to take that luck and sustain it. Keep the real difference makers happy and put them in positions to win (much easier than having to find that first difference maker). Dan Gilbert for me is bordering on a flashier Chris Cohan, better spoken to his fan base, who is still a bad owner and doesn’t get it. I’m sorry you felt you ‘owned’ Lebron because he was a hometown boy and had no motivation to surround him with anything resembling a legitimate all star player.

beautiful
Steinmetz: What about the luxury tax?

Lacob: Irrelevant.

Steinmetz: You indicated at your initial press luncheon, you probably wouldn’t go into the luxury tax?

Lacob: That’s not the point for me. We need to get better. Need to improve and if it costs money, it costs money. We’ve had a board meeting since then. We’ve all discussed it and everyone is on board with the fact that we’re going to do what it takes to get better.

we are so lucky to have fired up owners who expect success

Honestly, it is so foreign I just don’t really know how to respond. It makes me feel all tingly inside!
