Can you guys help me out?
Hello, Golden State of Mind. I am Omaha Sun, a Phoneix Suns fan and editor/contributor for Ridiculous Upside. I talked with a few of you at bright Side of the Sun a while ago and warned that I would be stopping by. Well, it has taken a while but here I am.
I am in the middle of a series of posts for RU breaking down the rookies taken in the 2011 NBA Draft and projecting where they fit into their new teams' depth charts. You know more about the Warriors than I ever will, so I decided to stop by and pick your collective brains to get my thought process going. All responses are much appreciated.
First of all, what is your FA situation looking like? It looks like Acie Law, Vlad Radmanovic, and Reggie Williams (restricted) are your FAs. Am I missing anyone? I'm guessing Williams will be brought back but what about the other guys?
How about Monta? Were the Philly trade rumors anything to give thought to or just rumors? Do you see Ellis getting moved? Do you want him to be moved?
You drafted Klay Thompson, Jeremy Tyler, and Charles Jenkins. What are your expectations for these three? Where do they fit on the team? What kind fo numbers do you see them posting?
Here's a link to my most recent post to give you an idea of what I'm trying to do.
Thanks for your help. I know you'r e division rival, but I can't help but root for the Warriors a little bit. I hopped on the bandwagon a couple years ago during the D-League All-Star stretch you went through (Anthony Tolliver is awesome) and I really like Steph Curry.
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

FA situation = we gain space, lose little talent on the floor that can’t be easily replaced or hopefully improved upon
How about Monta? Monta could and should be moved it we get to upgrade our bigs or even at SG with a player that better compliments and complements Curry (inside joke)
Thompson = back up wing on a poor team that will lose Williams, such as ours
Tyler = back up big on a team without frontline depth, such as ours
Jenkins = back up pg, on a team ….
none of them are likely to blow up, but on a team like ours, we need to hope one might!

Why do you say we'll lose Williams?

He has an NBA out clause in his deal though.

That's good to know.

The one-year, $1.5-million contract was first reported by Yahoo Sports.
Williams would have to pay a $1 million buyout if he wants to return to the NBA this season.
I’m not entirely sure he’ll come back in 2011/12. And with the way the lock outs shaping up, it won’t matter.
Quoting myself here:
Also, for the sake of my sanity, I will be writing as if there will actually be a season this year.

Here are my 2 cents
As for our free agents it is only likely that Williams will come back and he might not even come back due to the fact that we drafted Klay Thompson and he will cost more money.
Thompson will back up Ellis and D. Wright he will play 20+ minutes a night.
I suspect Charles Jenkins will move his way into the picture as a back up pg, he will start the year playing 0-3 minutes a night then end the year playing 8 to 12 minutes every night. He will be an average player which is better than expected for a 2nd round draft choice.
Jeremy Tyler will spend most of the year in the D-League because he is very raw and not ready for the NBA, he will get some stints with the NBA but won’t get many minutes. Of course eventually we all expect him to contribute in the NBA, but my expectations are not too high for his rookie season.
I don’t know if the Monta trade rumors were true, my gut tells me it was fabricated by the Warriors front office to try and generate trade interest. I suspect Biedrins will be traded and possibly Monta. Monta is a tremendously talented player that simply doesn’t fit on a lot of teams so the Warriors won’t be able to get equal talent most likely, but many of us think this is a necessary trade for the team to become a playoff contender for the reason that our defense is so very bad.
If nothing is done with the team and Williams leaves I think this will be the rotation.
Curry 36 minutes
Lin 4 minutes
Jenkins 8 minutes
Ellis 36 minutes
Thompson 24 minutes
D. Wright 36 minutes
David Lee 36 minutes
Louis Amundson 12 minutes
Ekpe Udoh 26 minutes
Andris Biedrins 22 minutes
Don’t be surprised if your Suns sign Reggie to an deal we won’t match. Coach Al likes Reggie a lot, as you well know.
Reggie is not someone I've considered....
Hmm… very interesting. We love us some combo-wings and Reggie certainly knows how to score. We’ll need someone to replace Vince Carter when he is bought out. Most fans are hoping for a bigger inmpact guy like an Arron Afflalo or someone like that, but we don’t have much money to spend. That might play into your favor though if you wish to keep him.

I hope so, I really like Reggie and hope he sticks around. I wouldn’t mind having Jared Dudley or Josh Childress though.

reggie?
Not to beat up on the guy, but someone please explain what is so great about Reggie. He is the worst defender on a team with no defense. He excelled at Nellie ball because he didn’t have to think or play D, just run an round and take open shots when defenders collapsed around Monta.
The Mavs showed that old style basketball involving movement in the offense and team defense have replaced the snooze fest that the modern NBA has become- one on one matchup while everyone else watches. Boring, and precious few who can actually do it.
Let’s hope that Jackson will instill team defense mentality, get a big 2 for Monta who can play D (love ya,ME, but ya gotta go) and in a year or two we might not stink.
Oh yeah, and that there are actual games in 2011. I would say that any hoops at all this season is a 50/50 proposition.

How do you guys feel about the hiring of Rick Welts?

meh
Nate Bjorkgren, Jerry West, asst gm Bob Myers and Riley & Jackson will all have more impact on what happens on the floor than Welts
the fact that Rowell is gone is good, most would agree, and Sarver gave him a positive rec – you know more about him than we do, so what do YOU think he brings to the table?</em>

At the same time, Rick Welts was an outstandingly talented sports marketer and savvy businessman. He worked 17 years in the NBA league office before joining the Suns, rising to the level of Chief Marketing Officer and President of NBA properties. He’s been credited with creating the NBA’s All-Star weekend, among other notable achievements.
Here is where it was discussed at BSotS: link1, link2, link3.
Basically, he’s good people. Originally we figured his resignation was a personal decision stemming from his coming out. But then he joined your team, and while the personal side is still probably a huge part, we think it might be more than that. It seems like Sarver is running off all the qulaity individuals in our FO, and that’s terrifying.

Hello guys.
Have you all moved on and forgot about me? I recently started covering sports for my school newspaper, so my blogging got pushed to the side a little bit. The NBA season might be starting soon (fingers crossed) so I should probably get a move on with these posts before the CU basketball season starts and I have zero time. Hopefully I can get your post done in the next couple of days.
Another question: who is starting in the front court alongside Lee?

re: who is starting in the front court alongside Lee?
my money is actually still on Beans.
Hear me out: although I think Udoh (or perhaps a free agent acquisition) will eventually take over the starting job, it will be Biedrens’ to lose. Especially with a new coach, new system, and shortened season, coach Jackson is going to stick with the status quo.
Personally, I would actually start Udoh at the 4, and put Lee at the 5

Eh, I'd probably just have Udoh guard whoever the bigger frontcourt threat is.
Both these guys are kind of tweeners, so positions don’t really matter in this situation IMO.
I’m sorry again, I’ll try to get this done ASAP. I usually write during my computer science class, but have trouble finding time otherwise.

hopefully Udoh comes back with a stronger lower body, because he was definately getting pushed off the block last year.
When it came time to guard the big post players, it was usually Lee (based on recollection, not stats). I’m specifically remembering Lee playing well against Dwight Howard and ending Love’s triple double streak.
Although Udoh is a much better defender, I think Lee is actually a more natural fit to stick with the other teams center – freeing Udoh up for the help side blocks
