As nostalgic and awesome it would be to see JRich back in a Warriors uniform, do we really need ANOTHER wing? We seem pretty loaded at the 2/3, especially now that we drafted Klay Thompson. We’d be better off spending that money on some defensive oriented bigs. Maybe one day when JRich’s career has reached its twilight, he can come back for a year or two and retire as a Warrior, but at this point in his career, he’s still a relatively productive player and would still could get 5-8 million a year, money we shouldn’t use on another swingman

by JustSomeName on Nov 2, 2011 9:38 AM PDT reply actions

No way Jose. We have Klay. If were gonna bring in another wing it has to be a guy thats around 6’8 or 6’9 that does not need the ball to be effective. We need a guy who specializes in defense that can defend the Melo’s and the Durant’s and Bron’s when Dorell is off the floor. J-Rich is more offense and is too small to defend the dominant 3’s in the league. Im aware most guys in the league cant defend those guys but some can make them take shots they dont wanna take. Give me Battier over J-Rich.

JRich is an MLE player

I think if you pay more you are overpaying. He can score relatively well, but not that much more than Reggie for ex. At his age too, it’s be a mistake.

Taking out my nostalgic love for JRich, I’d love to pursue him in the event we move Monta.

by tafkasam on Nov 2, 2011 10:23 AM PDT reply actions

This would be a great signing for the Warriors

With Reggie Williams gone and probably not coming back since he would be losing money if he were to opt out of his current contract in Spain. J Rich would be a great addition to the backcourt, Klay could be plugged in at SF behind Wright, opening more PT for him and Curry/Ellis/Richardson could run a 3 man rotation in the backcourt.

I also believe the MLE is just right for a player like J Rich, I think he understands that as well and would be willing to take it.

by Babyface Assassin on Nov 2, 2011 11:40 AM PDT reply actions

Klay is not a 3. He’s no more of a 3 than Morrow was. You dont wanna see him defending Durant or Melo. Trust me.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 2, 2011 11:51 AM PDT up reply actions

You would rather have him guard Kobe or DWade ? I have never seen the kid play and basing my assumption that he is a bad defender from the draft analysis and if its true, he will be a defensive liability wherever you put him. Whether you have him at the 2 or the 3, he would still be coming off the bench for Dorrell

by Babyface Assassin on Nov 2, 2011 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Its far less dangerous 2 guards in the league than there are small forwards. Thats the reason Monta is a starting 2. Klay only really has to worry about 2 or 3 sg’s in the league killing him. Now when you talkl about the small forwards in the league thats a horse of a different color.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 2, 2011 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Not to mention the general physical problem

Elite guys like Wade and Durant will skin anyone on the consistent.

But Klay’s lack of strength and length at the 3 will lead him to be skinned by below average scoring 3s. At SG atleast he can physically match up.

by tafkasam on Nov 2, 2011 4:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Exactly. Being a 6’7 2 guard he’ll be able to at least have a height advantage over some guys. At the 3 spot he’s at a extreme disadvantage every night.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 2, 2011 6:19 PM PDT up reply actions

If Monta is traded then it's an option.

Other than that, I don’t see how they are supposed to share minutes while giving Klay time on the floor. Monta has become much more of a leader than before, which was an issue prior to last season and a reason to consider a trade. If he would be satisfied at 25 min/game between the 2 and 3, and the MLE then sure do it.

That being said, I can’t wait to see him play again on Saturday, even if it is an exhibition. And even though the only jersey I have of his is the hideous orange alternate from ’08, I think I have to sport that over my slick Curry jersey.

It smells like hope in this mug

by danielholl on Nov 2, 2011 1:36 PM PDT reply actions

Here's the solution

Bump Klay to SF as a backup to D Wright. To be honest I have never seen Thompson play before but looking at his videos, he seems like he doesn’t handle the ball much, coming off screens and pulling up for the jumper is what I see him do in every mix of his which is the job description of a SF. Granted those videos don’t tell the whole story on a player that’s why I’m not going to push this idea but if you could put Klay as a backup to Wright, now you have Curry, Monta and J Rich sharing minutes in the backcourt, Curry and Monta would start, then Curry and Monta would take turn at the PG for the 25 mins J Rich is in the game

by Babyface Assassin on Nov 2, 2011 2:07 PM PDT up reply actions

He actually handled the ball alot last year. Klay cant defend small forwards. Its crazy to bring in another 2 guard on this team when you have Shane Battier looking for a team. We need a wing defender.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 2, 2011 2:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, on the one hand there is the truism that “a wing is a wing is a wing.”

On the other hand, if we’re parsing between shooting guard and small forward, I totally agree with J-Ridah: Klay is much more suited to shooting guard. Using rebounding as a proxy for forward skills and passing as a proxy for guard skills, Klay in college both passed like a shooting guard (3.8 assists per 36) and rebounded like one (5.4 per 36). By way of comparison, Kawhi Leonard, at the same basic height as Klay (not including his 38-inch hands), ripped 11.7 boards per 36.

Basically, putting Klay at the 3 against guys like Marion, LeBron and ‘Melo instantly puts us at a huge rebounding and defensive disadvantage. Given that we’re already horrendous at rebounding and defense, probably not the wisest move.

Then sign Baron Davis when he gets waived due to the amnesty rule and have our old We Believe backcourt as our backups! That would be awkward..

Would love to see JR back in a Warrior uniform.

But he doesn’t make basketball sense right now. Not only does he excel at scoring, it’s also as a 3-point shooter, which are the two areas we don’t need much help in.

He costs too much when we need to address other needs. Hopefully he’ll be available again in the future.

I think siging J Rich would be a good move for us.

We have no depth at the guard or forward position at all. Reggie is in Spain earning more than he would here, and Klay Thomson is a rookie so lets damper out expectations a bit. Having J Rich as our sixth man off the bench to play the 2 and 3 would be great. It would give monta and Dorell rest and give a big guard to a team that needs one badly. While J Rich isnt great at D, he always hustles. I hope we go for him when the lockout ends.

by basketballcrazed on Nov 3, 2011 12:28 PM PDT reply actions

Reggie’s the key for me. He’s basically the same player as JRich, and likely to come cheaper. JRich makes sense only if (a) he comes cheap; and (b) Mr. Potatohead decides to stay in Spain.

by Sleepy Freud on Nov 3, 2011 3:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Hate to break it to you but Reggie wont be back in a dubs jersey if there were a season? Why? Because for 1 he’d have to pay 1 million to buy out his contract with the spain team and the max a NBA team could pay is 500k which I dont believe Lacob would pay when he has Klay as a backup 2 guard. And second in order for Reggie to be able to spend the other 500k to by himself out he would have to had received a offer at least double of what he got to play in spain or it makes no sense to had signed there in the 1st place for only 500k. I say the Bulls make him a offer of 3 million and he buys himself out with 500k and the bulls paying for the other 500k out of their own pocket and not adding it to his salary so he’ll end up with 2.5 and will be a Bull when the season starts. Why the Bulls you ask? Because they need scoring and if they gave CJ 4 mill they’ll give Reggie at least 3 if not more. He’s the best shooting 2 guard on the market this free agency period.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 3, 2011 4:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Reggie would have been back if there wasn't a lockout.

I think he’ll come back to the Warriors after his deal in Spain is done.

by GovernorStephCurry on Nov 3, 2011 6:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Reggie wont be back if another team offers him 2 million or more. I dont see any reason we would waste cap space on a 2 guard when we have Klay on the roster. Now if Reggie signs the qualifying offer then he could be back. I dont know that the offer is for a guy coming outta the D-League tho.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 3, 2011 6:57 PM PDT up reply actions

He'll be back unless he gets a huge offer.

And we don’t even know if Klay Thompson is an NBA player yet. Neither does the FO. The FO likes Reggie a lot and just want to teach him how to play defense. He played at VMI where he wasn’t taught any defensive concepts. He has a 7’1 wingspan and good strength and athleticism. If he can learn defensive concepts under a good coach, the Warriors have found a good starting SG for the future, and that’s how they see it i think. This regime isn’t about wasting assets (besides that B-Wright deal) and I know they regret giving up Morrow.

Ron Paul 2012

by GovernorStephCurry on Nov 3, 2011 10:33 PM PDT up reply actions

I’ll tell you what I telling others. Jerry West drafted Klay. I do not believe they would draft Klay and believe he is not a contributor right now. You dont pass up on Kawhi Leonard and the brothers Morris and Alec Burks if you dont think Klay can contribute right now. Lets think about it this way, Monta is still gonna get alot of minutes. How much sense does it make to have Reggie and Klay sharing backup minutes to a guy who leads the league in minutes played? Its Klay’s job now. At the very least he’ll be able to score because the way he score’s is hard to defend. He comes off screens for jumpers like Ray Allen does. And by no means am I saying were gonna let Reggie walk for free. Morrow didnt walk for free and neither did CJ. Larry Riley hasnt let anybody walk for free. Sign and trades for a second round pick is fair for Reggie. We’d then have 2 second round picks in the 2012 draft.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 4, 2011 9:36 AM PDT up reply actions

We’ll keep Reggie especially with the cost limiting this CBA will do to contracts. He just won’t be back this year it seems. I’m telling you at least 2 people in the FO are enamored with Reggie’s potential and think he can be one of the best bench scorers in the league if not more down the line with a better understanding of defensive concepts and positioning. The team likes Klay, but that doesn’t mean they think he’s ready to play right away. They didn’t think Udoh was ready to play right away and he was a 23 year old rookie and the 6th pick in the draft. Stockpiling assets is never a bad thing J-Ridah. It’s clear Reggie is better than Klay right now, and probably will be in the future. I don’t understand why people think Klay is somehow the next starting SG of the team. #11 picks hardly do much especially in a weak draft. It seems like this was a pick to stockpile assets and keep adding shooters. If you haven’t noticed, the main thing the Warriors have for them is shooters. There is regret in the FO for not re-upping Morrow right now. With Curry, Reggie, Klay and Dorell the Warriors have the best shooters in the league. That isn’t considering what improvements Monta and Lee (he said he was working on his 3) will have when it comes to shooting.

And Morrow did walk for free. We got a 2nd round pick last year that was protected until pick #55. We weren’t going to get that pick. Like I said, there is a lot of regret in not bringing him back at the price he was given.

Ron Paul 2012

by GovernorStephCurry on Nov 4, 2011 4:52 PM PDT up reply actions

1st off there should be zero regret in not bringing Morrow back. Not at the money NJ gave him. Secondly, I never said Klay was gonna be a star. What im saying is the way he shoots the ball will easily translate at the next level. You have to keep in mind that we cant fill roster spots up with guys at the same position. I say move Reggie or Klay asap. We cant keep both on the roster. Its a logjam we dont need. Now if 1 was a shooter and the other was a defender I’d say keep both but why do that when we cant dump 1 for either a pick or a defensive wing? 2 backup scoring guards backing up a guy who rarely sits makes no sense to me. Charles Jenkins may end up having to play some 2 guard aswell if we dont sign another pg or if J.Lin actually turns out to be a backup.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 4, 2011 7:31 PM PDT up reply actions

I guess yall really dont think Klay can contribute if you want JR. I think we should all look at Klay as a Anthony Morrow with handles and more hops. Now if you view him along those lines you’ll see you dont need another 2 guard. You need a small forward, This is who you need Warrior fan.
http://twitter.com/#!/shanebattier
He’s a geek and would actually consider coming to the Bay Area being that this is the home of silicon valley. Jason Richardson wont happen. This front office is too smart to sign another 2 guard when we have no backup 3.

Someone should make a "Come to the Dubs, Dwight" video for next offseason.

Even if it is a long shot, we have a lot of what Dwight has eluded to. Our management shows dedication to winning. I think he would like the positive attitude of Coach Jackson as he has shown to not like the negativity of Van Gundy. He said he would like to play with Ellis. Not sure why he has shown interest in playing with Anthony Morrow other than his deadly three point shooting, but Curry is nearly as deadly and more versatile of a player. He’s also said he wants a great fanbase that really gets behind the team. Show him a few clips of We Believe Oracle and he will be more than on board in that category. If it meant using the amnesty on Lee or Biedrins, I’m sure Lacob would do it.

What does that even mean?

Lee’s so much worse than Dirk the comparison isn’t even worth mentioning.

Ron Paul 2012

by GovernorStephCurry on Nov 3, 2011 10:33 PM PDT up reply actions

What I mean is a poor man’s player is somebody who plays similar to another guy but not at the same level. David Lee and Dirk both score primarily off jump shots. But are not great defenders. Both are not overly athletic. Both are good rebounders with Lee really having the edge. I think people are getting too caught up in what Dirk was in the playoffs instead of what he was coming into the season. If coming into the season I was to say Lee is a poor man’s Dirk you all would agree. But since he couldnt miss a shot in the playoffs everybody thinks its so off base.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 4, 2011 9:43 AM PDT up reply actions

Steph is a poor man’s Steve Nash.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 4, 2011 9:44 AM PDT up reply actions

Maybe for the casual NBA fan.

But I knew coming into last season that Dirk was a superstar and that he was amazing still. Dirk can create his shot. Lee can’t. Dirk can shoot 3’s. Lee can’t. Dirk’s a decent defender now. He’s average if not better. Lee’s horrible. These are huge differences.

At least Curry is a better scorer than Nash. What really separates them is their passing ability. Nash is the greatest passer of his generation. The comparison isn’t right but at least they’re similar players.

Yep, I would love DH as a dub but in order to do that it would mean we did not take advantage of the Centers that are available this free agency period. I wouldnt pass on the chance of getting Deandre Jordan or Chandler or Nene in hopes of getting DH. I think he’d rather play for the Clippers before he would for us.

by J-RIDAH on Nov 3, 2011 7:05 PM PDT up reply actions

The Warriors’ presumptive starting lineup is undersized and/or defensively inept at every position except small forward. Replacing Dorell (6-8 w/ young legs, and a decent defender) with JRich (6-5, about to turn 31, and a poor defender) would complete the penta-fecta of smallness and defensive ineptitude.

What exactly do you mean by you " could see" it? Surely not that you think it would be a good idea?
