Riley Strikes Again!

That is very encouraging, can’t wait to see him bobble the ball for us now….

I’m in disbelief right now, this is pathetic, I have officially lost all trust in this group, how in the world could this organization be so damm dumb….

Your apathy towards jaded fans is concerning.

You’re freaking out about nothing.

You say that now. Wait until you see a Udoh/Kwame combo. It won’t be pretty.

by Evanz on Dec 13, 2011 11:44 AM PST up reply actions

the salary doesn’t really matter. He’s basically a cap space filler. We had capspace this year, we still have it next year.

I heard he doesn't like music.

by Reverend_Randy on Dec 13, 2011 12:52 PM PST up reply actions

Good teams use their extra cap space for trades. Bad teams… do this.

by lincypoo i wuv u on Dec 13, 2011 6:57 PM PST up reply actions

under the new cba

there’s a minimum amount we have to spend on the salary cap. sooo having extra cap space is pretty irrelevant.

Got love for the WCC.

by SnakesOnAPlane on Dec 13, 2011 7:24 PM PST up reply actions

yes

under the new cba, the only way to carry a decent chunk of cap space over to next year is to sign players to 1 year contracts

chuck hayes got paid $5M over 4 years

he wouldn’t have considered $7M for one?

many better players to go after. this just feels idiotic, paying Kwame 6 times what he made last season

You’re freaking out about nothing.

Spending $7million dollars on a player you barely need when there are serious depth issues at the 1, 2, and 3 is “nothing”? Guffaw!

errr...ok

just to be clear, Kwame does not appear to be good at defense

SI: Kwame Brown allowed 48% shooting in post-ups last year, ranked 202nd overall in pts allowed/possession. Let’s all chill

This is like reading the News paper, Its the same old News, the only difference is the names of the people have changed…

It adds 7 mil to the cap, and with the Bell fiasco we now have no get out of jail free card, we’re screwed for this year….we could have waited for the trade dead line before we used our amnesty on Bell or used up our cap on this scrub….

The only difference right now between Cohan/RR and company, is the names changed to Lacob/Gubber…

by Cryptic on Dec 13, 2011 10:36 AM PST reply actions

It adds 7 mil to the cap,

It’s a one-year deal. There is a salary floor – we had to spend more money than we were spending. It doesn’t impact us next year at all.

by Ronaldinho on Dec 13, 2011 10:37 AM PST up reply actions

We could have found something better to spend it on...

Kwame made about the veteran’s minimum last year. You’re telling me we had to spend $7M to get him? Surely there’s a better player out there for that much.

http://nbawarriors.wordpress.com/

by Brownie13 on Dec 13, 2011 12:02 PM PST up reply actions

It gives us a $7 million expiring contract which can be useful if someone wants to shed salary in any sort of trade. If we signed him for $2 million then that isn’t a very useful expiring contract. It may help out trade numbers in some way believe it or not.

by G-State on Dec 13, 2011 12:36 PM PST up reply actions

What about $6M?

or 5? or 4?

Couldn’t we have tried some other options first before giving him $7?

http://nbawarriors.wordpress.com/

by Brownie13 on Dec 13, 2011 11:00 PM PST up reply actions

I realize that, I was looking at it from the perspective that there are still deals to be made out there, and then with a short season the trade dead line will not be to far away, but these desperation moves have hamstrung us until next year…

I just don’t get it, very disappointing.. I was very unimpressed with Bob Myers last night…this FO is not what it’s been made out to be, not so far…

by Cryptic on Dec 13, 2011 10:41 AM PST reply actions

Well, the CP3 for Monta Ellis, Klay Thompson, and Andris Biedrins rumor still has legs. LOL.

Peter Vecsey:
Paul has not reversed field regarding wanting out of New Orleans. Initially blessed with overriding leverage and exhilarating options, CP$’s, relocation program has narrowed to the Celtics (Rajon Rondo continues to be available) and the Warriors (NOLA wants Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins and rookie Klay Thompson).

Imagine a Niner or Giants blog

with a front page video post showing a Cowboy or a Dodger talking smack about a new player b signed to a SF team. There would be riots in the SF streets!
Kobe is a great player – no doubt, but he is a Laker and by that fact alone, does not belong on the front page of GSOM.

I see that SD

And I lived in Daygo for a few years. I managed not to start liking Kobe though. He’s a megalomaniacal black hole and has never won it all without a superstar big man. Shoo with that.

by RACE!! on Dec 13, 2011 11:28 AM PST via mobile up reply actions   1 recs

I liked Kobe way before I moved to SD

Gasol is in no way, shape or form a superstar and was considered a career loser and choker until he signed with Lakers. Besides, Lakers were #1 in the west even before the Gasol signing that year.

Jordan never even won a playoff series without Pippen and an amazing group of role players.

Magic never won without a top 2 player of all time.

etc

Bird? top 3? lol am I seeing things? hahaha what in the world.

what argument does Bird have over Kareem?

by SDtotheBay on Dec 13, 2011 7:21 PM PST up reply actions

Bird is definitively regarded as the best player ever to play his position.

That’s not the case with Kareem, although he has a lot of proponents. I’d put him ahead of Russell and Chamberlain, but probably behind Hakeem.

by Krazee max on Dec 13, 2011 8:42 PM PST up reply actions

Kobe's Top 10 guards in history.

But I think top 10 period is a pretty big stretch.

by Krazee max on Dec 13, 2011 5:34 PM PST up reply actions

not at all

he is comfortably top 10.

by SDtotheBay on Dec 13, 2011 7:21 PM PST up reply actions

See now, that's nonsense.

Kobe is great and has 5 rings and all, but no way is that man Top 10. I can name several guards who have arguably been better. Obviously Jordan and Magic, but also John Stockton, Gary Payton, Steve Nash, and Isiah Thomas. Dwyane Wade could easily surpass him in a few years. Plus, the Top 10 is too crowded with great big men to allow room for many guards (centers and power forwards).

Listen now, I agree that Kobe’s great, but if your biggest argument for Top 10 is that he’s won multiple titles (and I’m gonna assume here that it is, because that’s what his champions seem to always reference first), that’s kinda lame. Championships should not equate with level of greatness. They certainly shouldn’t hurt, but they shouldn’t be recognized in a vacuum (obviously, otherwise Robert Horry- 7 championships- would be regarded as the greatest player since Bill Russell). Now, in the case of Kobe, he has his 5 rings, and he was definitely a primary party to all of them, but across 16 years, he’s had a lot more embarrassing failures than he hasn’t. I’m talking about those epic let-downs he’s had throughout his playoff career. The kind like the one he just had last May when his team, an overwhelming favorite to contend for a championship, got swept by the overachieving Mavs. I know a lot of Kobe/Laker fans like to dismiss the significance of such an unexpected flame-out (e.g. they argue the Lakers had just been to three straight Finals and were exhausted, or Kobe was limited by his knee, etc.), but they also seem content to overlook his previously established body of work in this area- he’s had a lot of these disappointing meltdowns.

I mean, come on, man, 2008 when his team (the perpetual favorite) got drubbed by the Celtics (historically blowing the 24-point lead to lose Game 3 @ Staples and getting destroyed by 41 points in the deciding Game 6), 2007 when LAL managed to win one measly game against Phoenix in the first round, 2006 when LAL blew a comfortable 3-1 first round series lead against Phoenix and Kobe refused to take more than 2 shots in the 2nd half, 2004 when the Shaq, Kobe, Payton, Malone LAL got annihilated by sleeper Detroit in “the NBA’s first 5-game sweep” (a series in which Kobe smothered LA’s chances by out-shooting Shaq, though Shaq had the far better series), 2003 when Kobe and co. had their asses handed to them by the Spurs (a series which ended in another blow-out loss for Kobe). Not to mention, Kobe was pretty clearly 2nd fiddle to Shaq for their 3 championship runs, both in terms of value and actual performance. How can all this make anyone a Top 10 or Top 15 all-time player?

Kobe’s great and all, but I gotta balk at the suggestion that he’s seeing any of the guys in the Top 10. As a qualifier, no Top 10 player should have had to endure the vast overwhelming disappointments that Kobe has.

by Krazee max on Dec 13, 2011 9:40 PM PST up reply actions

Kobe is the personification of everything that is wrong and evil in sports. If you don’t dislike him and the Lakers you’re just not paying attention.

The CP3 is back on the table, the Howard sweepstakes is not over, there are plenty of deals to be made yet, we had until the 16th on the amnesty issue..

Is this the best this team could do? in making use of the amnesty and free agent market?

It appears to be Cohan/RR/Rileyesch….If this is it, then we may owe Cohan and apology ;)))

by Cryptic on Dec 13, 2011 11:03 AM PST reply actions

yes, it is the best we could do

Dwight and CP3 not coming to the warriors. if they did it would be for one shortened season and we would have to give up our future to pull it off.
Give me one more .500 season as we continue to improve and scratch for the 8 spot and then build on our success for the next few years

LOL. Gotta laugh or else I'd be crying.

I had Kwame on my fantasy league last season and he did okay, but he wasn’t someone you could count on as he was inconsistent. It still makes me think what IF we had drafted Greg Monroe instead of Udoh. I doubt we would be going for Kwame and we would be better off with AB and Monroe.

"Go ahead. Make my day."

by callahan on Dec 13, 2011 11:09 AM PST reply actions

Right on Harry, Monroe was my pick last year, I thought we made a big mistake, especially since Beans looked like the dickens !! ;))

by Cryptic on Dec 13, 2011 11:11 AM PST up reply actions

I'm keeping an open mind on Udoh, but why do we have Kwame then?

Monroe may not block as many shots as Udoh, but he gets more minutes, steals the ball, passes the ball better, and scores a lot more. I’m sure if West was here, we would have Monroe. Monroe would make David Lee available for trade. I had Udoh on fantasy league, too, but he was basically for blocked shots and some rebounds in very limited minutes.

agreed on all counts

Plus, this allows us to make another move for a back up SG or PG who can play some defense.
I just see Kwame as a 7 footer who can get us 6 fouls a night and help us rebound – something we really need. This is not a bad thing people.

All of the reasons listed above could be made to justify the signing of an undrafted/Dleague big for the league minimum! Unless they use his expiring in a major trade, which at this point seems next to impossible, how could spending $7million on a bad player be better than spending $300thousand some odd dollars on a comparably bad player?

by 49erEmpire on Dec 13, 2011 12:38 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

I'm still mortified.

You can blame Kobe all you want, but sadly he was telling a true story.

He was laughing about it then. You can guarantee he’s beside himself right now. He must be thinking, “Those Warriors sure are funny!”

His eyes are going to light up like M1000s as soon as he sees Kwame in a W uniform. He’s consistently going to go straight to the cup and score 77 points that night.

by MikeAucksbigg on Dec 13, 2011 1:48 PM PST up reply actions

Kwame will be worth it just by putting Kobe on his ass with a hard foul when he comes down the lane.

Take his anger out and get a flagrant even. If this happens I will officially have a t-shirt made with Kwame’s picture on it.

You all just have to remind me to do it if indeed that scenario happens. Hell, if that happens TonyPSD might even make a Kwame shirt. Kwame Brown…“One of the big boys”. If you caught that last part you’re old school.

I hope Kwame takes advantage of playing the Lake Show 4 times this season and proves this video and his detractors wrong. I’d say give em a couple hard fouls but that motivates kobe
Mark Jackson’s gonna put a fire under Kwame’s ass, we’ll get the best out of em. Kobe puts up 77 ?Closet Laker Fan is that you?
Last time I checked the Lakers lost the last time they came into Oracle, and were almost beaten the other time.Times are a changin. No Brown, No Odom, Jason Kapono? yeah..nice work.

by Garrett Flippin on Dec 13, 2011 2:28 PM PST reply actions

Closet Laker fan?

I take exception to that, sir. How dare you? I have been bangin’ the Warriors since I was knee high.

However, I also agree with the Cutman; it would be nice to have someone who vehemently dislikes Kobe give him a check a la Bynum’s flagrant in last years’ playoffs. I would say that would be worth $7M.

Just no injuries. I wouldn’t wish that on a broke-dick dog.

by MikeAucksbigg on Dec 13, 2011 2:35 PM PST up reply actions

Yep, if that video doesn't light an f'n fire under Kwame's ass, nothing will.

I’d be furious. First Michael Jordan breaks him down (see Michael’s book ‘When Nothing Else Matters’), and now Kobe. It’s time for Kwame to sack up, let his nuts hang, be a man, or whatever else you’d like to call it.

Suddenly, I find myself rooting for Kwame. I would not be mad at him for taking Kobe’s head off at the Oracle and starting a near riot. We had one a number of years back (see Murphy, Troy; Davis, Dale; Mills, Chris; Wallace, Rasheed).
