Rockets May Cut Jeremy Lin, 6 guards on roster w no cut multi yr contracts
Lin's contract for year 2 was picked up by Houston. However, if he is cut before playing any regular season games, only a portion of that contract, if any, will be paid by the Rockets. Probably some percentage, the rest to be paid by GSW.
So the Rockets have nothing to lose by bringing him into camp.
Now they already have 6 SIX GUARDS ON THE ROSTER WITH NO CUT, MULTI YEAR CONTRACTS.
Who are they, Jonny Flynn, Goran Dragic, Courtney Lee, Kyle Lowery, Kevin Martin and the big G-F Chase Budinger.
That is six guards already, that is all they are going to keep. So unless we see movement soon and I means soon because training camp is abbreviated, they might not keep Lin.
Or they screw Lin and keep the contract, NBDL again. I am not trying to be negative here, only that among all the Asian Americans celebrating, who is paying attention to reality??
Now in Lin's favor is Kevin McHale, who should give starting nod to Goran or Jonny Flynn if he can keep it under control at PG. Then Daryl Morey who does the numbers, hopefully he and others in the Rockets Finance and Marketing should not that Lin is THE KEY TO THEIR CONTINUED CONTRACT WITH CHINA BROADCASTING Rockets games. Lin would not only maintains the sales of his jersey in China but those of the Rockets and Rockets memorabilia and the jerseys of other players in China.
BUT THERE ARE SIX MULTI YEAR NO CUT CONTRACTS AHEAD OF LIN. So someone has got to be moved so that Lin can stay. NOW LIN REBOUNDS well enough and defensively can guard small forwards. But he has no post game and is not a spot up shooter. He is a player that needs the ball to shoot in rhythm. Big problems which he should resolve by the end of a 2nd or 3rd year so that he can have a long career in the NBA.
If you can't post or spot shoot with a quick release, you can't really ever play the 2 guard. Notice at Harvard, when was the 2, ... well I let me cut the negative points short. I hope he makes it and has a long prosperous career in the NBA. Then we will all see more guards who are Asian American or Asian Canadian, guards from Korea, China, Taiwan and Philippines in the NBA.

Because
to China, All Asian are the same….eventually!
That's so wrong.
Japanese , Koreans, Filipino etc etc are not the same to a Chinese person. You would never see a Chinese person cheer on a Japanese team.
Lin is THE KEY TO THEIR CONTINUED CONTRACT WITH CHINA BROADCASTING Rockets games.
I think Yao Ming was the key? Does anyone in China even care who Lin is? I mean at one point TracyMcGrady was the top jersey selling over there so they are probably not interested in the “china-ness” of a player as much as the excellence of a player so Lin is not an automatic replacement for Yao in their eyes?

maybe
but basketball is pretty big over there.
I have been to numerous bars in Tokyo and Hong Kong that had NBA games on (not just the Rockets)

i understand that basketball is popular in china
but they’re not going to watch houston just because lin (who is taiwanese) is playing. china and taiwan do not get along whatsoever. in fact, they are constantly feuding.
hahah yeah
so was china broadcasting every game that yi jianlian was in? maybe. prob not though. they just love yao
>:(
they just love yao
as they should. Everyone over here loved Yao too. But Lin is not another Yao.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that makes sense
I was wondering why the Rockets would jump at Lin like that, he’s not able to contribute at all. Having an asian player to stay in play with their Chinese audience is the plan

If they are pushing for a defensive..
team, then why would they let go of their best perimeter defender.
Kid’s beast defensively. I hope he gets a fair chance somewhere without being looked at for his racial background.
I have seen this kid lock JWall at summer league. JWall was like who’s this kid.
I would much rather have JLin be my backup then Jenkins. Reasons:
-Jeremy is a lock down defender. Jenkins was having trouble staying in front of Curry at open practice.
-Lin gets to the rim at ease. I didn’t see Jenkins penetrate the lane once and make a play for his teammates. If they need someone to bring the ball up and then they should consider signing me for a bargain.
-JLin is underrated scorer. He might not have the sexiest strokes but he puts in the bucket. Jenkins might just have a decent shot so he might have an edge here.
I was always a big fan of JLin but I think he gets overlooked sometimes due to his race.
Good Luck JLin. And by the way he’ll make their roster.

nellie sucks
and the rockets just realized lin was not yao.
Who cares if he's Asian?
It’s more about his skill as a basketball player. He is clearly worse than each of those 6 players.

now that binky has a sore ankle we could probably have put Lin to good use.

Lin 3-3 on 12-21-2011 vs the Spurs, 6 points, 6 min
He’s got a chance to stick since they are keeping 14 or 15 players.
Needs one more big game where he shows that he can consistently hit from the outside. McHale is likely to give him some games with 12 minutes or more just to see
if he can keep Lin.

Lin MADE THE ROCKETS EXCELLENT!!
This made my Xmas. Now if he can just work on that stroke so that the follow through is more at 85% rather than 70 for him.
He is going to have an excellent year because now he can shoot. He is going to show them that he is a bigger stronger version of Goran Dragic with much much better lateral movement than Goran.
One thing, Lin does not get by too many of the quickest guards in the NBA because he dribbles too high, he doesn’t have a power dribble either ( where you dribble the ball 1 to 1 1/2 feet off the ground, pounding the ball to the ground (almost)
But even the quickest guards, no one goes by him defensively. NO ONE.
He is going to have that chance now and when Samuel Dalembert is ready to play, they will send either Hasheem Thabeet or Lin to the NBDL.
Yes!! he is going to carve out his niche in the NBA this year, as an all around guard with an offensive game!
