Knicks Claim Jeremy Lin off Waivers

UPDATE

claim undrafted Harvard PG Jeremy Lin off waivers. Played with Warriors, Rockets via

Full story here.

Original story below the jump...

Star-divide

ESPN's Marc Stein tweeted early this morning that the Knicks and Warriors are interested in picking up Jeremy Lin...

Sources say that the Warriors, meanwhile, would be interested in using their open roster spot to try to bring Lin back if he clears. New Warriors owner Joe Lacob remains one of Lin's biggest fans and didn't want to release him earlier this month, but Golden State had no other choice thanks to the offer sheet it ultimately extended to then-restricted free agent DeAndre Jordan.

With the Warriors needing as much cap space as they could muster for the offer to Jordan -- which was ultimately matched by the Clippers -- Lin was released and then claimed on waivers by the Houston Rockets ... only for the Rockets to waive him Sunday when they needed to create a roster spot for the signing of Samuel Dalembert.

The Knicks and Warriors, coincidentally, meet Wednesday in Oakland.

But what we're really interested in is the poll below...

So what happens to Ish Smith and Charles Jenkins if the Warriors sign Jeremy Lin?

I wanna see what Jenkins can do on the court this season before the Warriors commit to even more back up point guards. I liked what I’ve seen from Jenkins in preseason: a very big point guard who can run an offense and defend; the only negative is that he’s not much of a scorer or shooter (which may end up being his downfall).

i agree

There’s not really a roster spot for him. Move on dubs.

Jenkins may not be NBA ready yet and Lin may outplay him. Plus, one of our guards might… sprain an ankle or something.

I want him back

just because we shouldn’t have cut him in the first place.

Plus, we’re still trying to figure out who our backup point guard is. You can never have too many options.

well , yeah you can. We need depth at other positions too. Splish seems as capable as Lin as a backup without even bringing Jenkins into the equation.

I think we’ve established clear backups at every position but PG, so I’m not sure what other position we’re looking to add more depth at.

The Knicks need a PG worse than we do. If he is hitting jumpers this year, look out. He may end up starting over there.

good defense, 6'4" PG is what we need

Ish and CJ are too small. I said release Ish and add Lin.

Why does it say that he's fast...he's always looked slow out there to me...

Haha, Fast for an NBA Asian point guard I guess? He’s gotta be high on that curve? :>)
I didn’t consider him fast or slow, about average but slightly mechanical in his approach. Maybe that’s what a Harvard education teaches one?

He's faster than Jenkins.

And prolly beats everyone here in math, too :).

Congrats to Lin

Lots of LINgerers still on this website… I must say it is hard to lose a Bay Area product when he wasn’t really giving much of a chance his only year here.

Hope he plays on Wednesday's game

With Baron, Shumpert, and Bibby all hurt, the Knicks need him. Plus he’d have a warm welcome back in the Bay.

Hey, maybe Lin shines enough and eventually takes Bibby’s spot. I’d take Lin over Bibby any day.

Anybody else notice the teams he's been with are in areas with high Asian populations?

The Bay Area and New York City. Houston has a decent population too, and has fans in Asia because of Yao.

He’s a marketing gimmick and will never be more than that.

Got love for the WCC.

Illogical Statement

With your current logic, signing any black player would constitute ‘marketing gimmicks’. Let’s see, there are large black populations in New York, Houston, Los Angeles, Oakland, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte… get what I mean?

Lay off the race card and give Jeremy Lin a chance. I’m actually hoping he gets decent minutes since Big Baron, Bibby and Shumpert are questionable in the near future. Maybe this is what he needed all along to prove himself… look at how his game developed towards the end of last season and you’ll see he’s come a long way. Too bad the Ws cut him though, but we are too guard-heavy anyway.

I wish the kid the best of luck with the Knicks, whether he’s Chinese, Russian, Italian, Martian, wgaf?

New York has a high everyone population.
