Mark Jackson
On Tonight's Game:
"Got to give our guys credit. Ish (Smith) is a guy that was on the streets a week ago looking for a job and here he is playing...counted on to make plays. He did an outstanding job. Had seven of our first 10 points he made mistakes but he's' not playing for a coach that's going to cuss him out and yell at him. I'm going to nurture him; I'm going to love him. He responded, he really gave us some quality minutes and gave us a chance to win this game. Brandon Rush was outstanding...again. Rebounding, scoring and taking advantage of matchups. At the end of the day the thing I love about him the most is that he'll never put himself in a position to make a mistake offensively. He knows exactly who he is, and plays to his strength. It's a great, great win for us."

On Defending Carmelo Anthony:
"This is going to be strange to hear, but we are a defensive team. It's a shocker. Great players are going to come in against us whether it's home or away and they are going to have great nights. It's our job to make it tough and not hold our heads down. Follow the game plan, understand what we are willing to give up and if a guy scores 40 it's going to be 40 on our terms as opposed to on his terms. Ultimately, we did a great job paying attention to the game plan and the strategy. If a guy heats up it's up to me and the coaching staff to make the adjustments. Our guys did a great job of competing. For the first time, since I can remember, the defense has given a chance to win a ball game. The way we defended in the first half put us into position to win the game in the second half. "
Monta Ellis
On Playing Defense Well Early in the Season:
"We had enough training camp to be on the same page. That's our focus, to play defense. We are just going out there and getting the job done. That's what is keeping us in the game and getting a win versus NBA teams like this."

On Flipping the Switch in the Fourth:
"It was like something came down and twinkled on me. My teammates and coaches just said keep going, our defense is keeping us in it. Great players come in and close games. That's what they wanted me to do. I came out and made couple of shots, got everybody else involved and we won the ball game."
Brandon Rush
On Being Labeled a Defensive Team By Coach Mark Jackson:
"I think everybody is buying into what Coach Jackson is talking about and giving a lot of effort in the defensive end. We are getting big stops and getting out running like we do."

On the Opportunity with the Warriors:
"It's a fresh start for me and I'm taking full advantage of it."
Dorell Wright
On The Difference Between Game 1 to 2 and 3:
"We know we can be a good team. I think a lot of jitters, playing on Christmas with everyone watching but we don't want to use that an excuse. We let the game go in the fourth quarter but now guys are buying into the system and really trusting each other. That's what it's about, trusting everybody. That's what makes good defensive teams when you have four guys behind you that you know who will be there if you get beat. Guys are buying into the system, playing hard and winning feels good. A lot of guys in here won 36 games last year; we don't want to go through that this year. We want to make the playoffs and be a contender."

REALLY Liked

tonight’s performance… I think the major thing I noticed was the turnaround of this warriors club from the 1st half to the second half. Last season, we would NEVER have done this well defensively with the Knicks and we did not have a B Rush / McGuire bench that plays such great defense. But our defense kept us in it, and the Warriors all made a great rebound in the 2nd half. I really think Jackson and Malone have respect and have the Warriors players believing in defense.

However, I am not ready to proclaim this a playoff team until they accomplish ONE THING. They need to take this defense and hustle ON THE ROAD against other teams. If they can perform well on the road (which we don’t know if they will because they haven’t played one yet), then this is a playoff team for sure. Historically, in the past couple of years the road has been very unkind to us…

by Warriors Fanatic on Dec 28, 2011 10:29 PM PST reply actions

However...

I have to say that if they win AT SAN ANTONIO for the first time in that building… then I’m entirely on the bandwagon (given that there’s no major injuries…). San Antonio Spurs have had our number in the past… and beating the Spurs on January 4th would make the Warriors look REALLY good…

by Warriors Fanatic on Dec 28, 2011 10:34 PM PST up reply actions

playing so many games at home (along with winning) is really helping with the confidence and the chemistry of this team.

Loved seeing Chandler, Carmelo struggle – great job on defense!
Great job by Ish as well, and nice job by Monta coming back strong to in the fourth.

Some Thought

1 – Kwame. Do Not Lay up the ball. JUST DUNK IT.
2 – Dorell – Stop with the Pump Fake. All it does is ruin your rhythm and at this point the only way to trick your defender would be to go up and shoot in one motion.
3 – As nice as Monta’s 4th Quarter was, this team needs Curry running things.
4- Brandon Wright will be starting at the 3 pretty soon instead of Dorell
4 – Jackson is rubbing off on this team. They are COOL under pressure!

They were pretty bad actually

but expect them to be a lot better vs you guys. I wouldn’t take much from this game, except ways to encourage them to play badly, but those are already known.

I think you’ll be fine, considering how the defense has been pretty good in 2 of your 3 games so far. You’re just going to need to execute on offense.

Gasol was better yesterday, and your bench looked pretty good

but it was the Jazz, so hard to take anything from that.

Easiest way to beat them would definitely be just making your outside shots. We didn’t, but they seem very uninterested in closing out on those, but rather clogging the paint.

I'm a huge fan of Monta Ellis but..

I just don’t believe he is understanding/ or is happy with his “new” role on this team run by Mark Jackson.
Barring the 4th Qtr ressurgence, he had a horrible game. I believe the fact he is not longer seen as the “alpha dog” of the team, it is seriously affecting his confidence and hence he is playing a lot worse and being detrimental to the team as well. We saw this in the first 3 qtrs and also for long stretches of the clippers game.
MJ has to work out how to get the best out of Monta Ellis. He is hugely talented and can destroy defenses and turn games very quickly as we saw late in the game. I think MJ did well today. I want to see how he deals with Monta when the whole team including him is having an off night. That might be the real test.

Till then, well done warriors…. Im watching on league pass from down here in Australia and theres a feeling that this warriors team has enough in them to win these ugly games- something we werent able to do in the past!

Great acquisition in Rush. He’s already achieved more than what Lou did all last year!
I really like Ish Smith. Besides his quickness, He also gets in the opponent’s face and can be quite annoying. I would like to see him used more often in the future.

I don’t know so much about Ish or Dom, but they both looked very good tonight. They’re only here to fill their roles, so I don’t see any reason they can’t be good all season.

Brandon Rush looks like a solid player

McGuire is fine as a defensive minded backup.

Ish…while has been decent scoring, does not look like the back-up point he is supposed to be. Much better suited to the bench.

gg fellas, that was a bad showing by my team

i liked our defensive intensity, but hated our offense. without a true PG(read, B.Davis) there is no one currently on our team with court vision. Melo might have the most court vision out of anyone. so we may look like this many nights, especially when both melo and amare are off on the same night.

good luck going forward, i’ll be rooting for you and mark jackson.

Beans again was only used in short spurts

He was eating up boards, offensively I think he scored once off a cut if I remember right, or it was after a offensive board, not sure. Lee’s defense was decent enough, once or twice he left Amare open for a jumper but he only really hit one where he was open . He guarded Amare quite a bit and did alright, he got dunked on though

solid.

not a lot of playing time, but incredible hustle when he was out there

I think I finally see why his minutes are so limited. Mark Jackson wants to only use him when he’s at full energy, so he can be everywhere, rather than tire out and stand around.

i actually kind of like it

and he and kwame weren’t all that needed because chandler was in foul trouble all night.

keeping your big men fresh is a big luxury. look at the Lakers with Pau the last couple seasons, especially with the times Bynum has been out. he just gets so worn out.

i really don’t like Fesenko the player, but if he helps keep our bigs fresh even against the teams with better big men who don’t get in foul trouble, it may end up being a good move

So at the game in the first half I loved Ish and I felt like he and Rush kept us in it

In the 2nd half Rush went off, everyone was praising him and Kwame with McGuire shut down Amare and Melo, Rush wasn’t too shabby on defense either or on the boards. I honestly didn’t notice Monta was so dominant in the 4th, I knew he improved cause he was going to the rim and hit two big time 3’s that made the place explode but I had no idea he was that dominant

If we had Curry I think we would have won by 20+ easily, it was dominating in the 4th. I also didn’t notice Andris had 7 boards in 14 minutes, he’s doing work. That was an incredible win. But oh man that Monta 3 from the top where he just stared his man down RIGHT after Dorell’s 3, oh man.

man the knicks defense sucks

how many times did the warriors just go find Bibby and then catch him on a switch? Or Amare floating around the 3 point line while Monta and Rush drive the lane? I mean Lee had so many open lanes off those monta drives.

warriors effort, loving it, i dont care how good they are or how dumb the knicks are but when you punk Amare and Melo into settling for 20 footers every other play, you are doing something right. hopefully the knicks half-@—— effort doesnt skew with the barometer of the Dubs performance tonight. but then when i realize their offense cant get much better because their point guard situation will not improve much and they struggled to defend the Paul Pierce less Celtics who dropped 102 on them and went down to New Orleans who held them to 79 without Eric Gordon i think we can say that the defense is working

they got sucked up in the clippers hype game 1

the knicks nearly blew that game to them and the c’s even though a little ragged should have had more rhythm than game 1

Udoh

wow, playing at pf where he should be, he was all over Stoudemire! I was really happy to see Udoh play him strong! it was awesome, the jump ball he tied Stoudemire up with was great!
Then finally at the end of the game we saw his offense, which was looking real nice.
What I like about this game was the fact that in the blowout youn’gins got to play (in a winning game) and thus less time for ME8…

by Lew Ghost on Dec 29, 2011 1:25 AM PST reply actions

yeah I read this

right after I posted lol
but I’m high on Monta, I like him, and not to cause debate, I think I’m partial to him over Curry. but that’s just my opinion…
also, my mistake Udoh’s points came at the end of the 3rd, awesome post and hook followed by being high in the post and doing a great spin move to a layup!!
Also if Brown dunked more often than being soft, Udoh would have had a great assist in the 3rd. His vision seems good too, and his passes are crisp, and unlikely to be lazy passes to be picked off.
Could be related to the wrist injury being alleviated.

No worries. I want Steph to succeed because, well, I want him to succeed anywhere he goes. But do I think/want Steph and Monta to succeed together and turn this franchise around? Absolutely. And I don’t see why not. Steph can stroke it from range and spread the floor with his shooting, and Monta can slash and penetrate, finding open guys. It seems both of them are finally getting the hang of it.

Agreed on Udoh. I hope he can continue growing the way he has this offseason. He really impressed me in the few minutes he played tonight.

Oh come on

Cut AB1 a little slack…he’s been on this board since the beginning and he’s seen his fair share of frustrating games/game threads. Can you blame him for not being a little skeptical when a guy with no prior head coaching experience comes in to guarantee a return to the playoffs? And remember, these guys haven’t played a road game yet, let’s see how they adjust to that.

At the end of the day, as cynical as it’s easy to be sometimes with this team, everyone in this community wants to see a successful franchise take the steps necessary to compete for a championship. Like I said: patience—with the team and with each other.

makes me wonder did Jackson really plan from the start to do the Ish-Monta switch in the 4th

or did monta’s poor play and rush’s explosion during Monta’s benching spark something in him to make the change in the 4th?

I thought him tying up Stoudemire and swatting him on the very next play were two of the plays of the night. He had 3 steals, 2 rebounds and a block (that the ref incorrectly negated by calling a bad foul) in 12 minutes. He also went 2/2 with no TO’s.
