Risk-free renewal not Risk-free

Not RISK-FREE at all!!!

Star-divide

Come on Joe . . . do you really want to take advantage of your loyal season ticket holders that paid their season ticket payments early??? The season ticket holders that paid their last 25% installment early are not able to get a refund from the GSW for the excess payment. The ones that didn't pay early don't have that problem because they didn't pay the last 25% installment since the GSW postponed the payment. Does anyone else out there feel betrayed by the GSW organization? It sure is fun basketball though!!!

I’ve always hated dealing with the Warriors whenever it came to asking for money back. It’s the main reason why I stopped selling tickets at TicketExchange. That really blows that you can’t get the money back for the games that were missed due to the lockout. Did you talk to the an exec/director to complain?

They postponed my final payment, which I also thought was kinda shady too since that would mean I couldn’t earn the interest on it, although I didn’t mind having that money in my pocket while we’re still waiting on the lockout.

Hope you can get everything straightened out.

Why dont you well on TicketExchange? My buddy just got season tickets for the first time this year, and besides selling tickets to us, he’s still trying to figure out what options work best for selling. Where do you sell your tickets now?

by WestCoastWarrior on Dec 30, 2011 8:27 AM PST up reply actions

Here are the 2 main reasons why I don’t bother selling on TicketExchange anymore:

1) If you sell any tickets, the money stays in your Warriors account. You can use that money towards other tickets if you want to buy more, or apply it to next season if you plan to renew. I just don’t like to have my money sitting with the Warriors for the entire season. If you request a payout of the money at the end of the season, they’ll also send you a form 1099 for the payout, which means you could get taxed on it. I talked to the IRS about this, and they said if you can prove you did this as a business, you can write off the amount you paid as an expense. Big hassle either way.

2) You can’t list your tickets below face value. Let’s say face value for your ticket is $100, but the market price for the Warriors/Raptors game is only $50. You can only list your ticket at $100 though, so most likely no one is going to buy it, when they can go to sites like Stubhub/Craigslist and get it at a price closer to market value.

I use Stubhub to sell my tickets. Stubhub takes a higher percentage for the commission (15% vs TicketExchange’s 10%), but I believe you’ll get more hits at Stubhub. Stubhub will also send you the money for each sale within like 10 days (don’t remember the exact timing). With TicketExchange, you can’t get your money back so easily or so soon.

cool

Do you post tickets on multiple websites, or does that get too complicated?

by WestCoastWarrior on Dec 30, 2011 10:04 AM PST up reply actions

I just use Stubhub.

I prefer/enjoy going to the games so don’t really care if they don’t sell. The only ones I really try to sell are the marquee games since we get pretty good profit from those.

Thanks . . . I’ve asked but so far they’ve said no. It ticks me off that I paid early. Now they are saying no Guaranteed 5% interest after the lockout ended. Very shady business practices. Have you ever looked at the ticket agreement? It’s one sided and all in their favor. Oh well . . .

I don't like the warriors charging different amounts for different games.

As a season ticket holder, before you could of gotten additional tickets at the price of games you payed for, expect for premier teams like the Lakers and Celtics. Now they have different prices for bulls, knicks, etc. I dont like this, I dont think it is a good value no more. But it is what it is.

Calling Mr Curry/why not Westbrook?

Hey Guv-

This is out of the thread, and you are just a fan, but the name cries out for answers. Where is this guy? Yesterday pointed out quite clearly that Monta is by far the best player on this team and its not even close. I keep hearing excuse after excuse about Curry, he was TERRIBLE last game. Terrible. Not Ok, not so so, not good, but terrible. He cannot defend even Steve Nash who is old enough to be his Dad. Stupid fouls put him out of the game early. What is it that Nellie said about dumb players? “If they do stupid things, how can they be a smart player?”

What is up? Curry for Westbrook? Hell yes.

sorry, ladies and gents

you had the lock out recess to reflect on how the owners consider the players on the performance side, and you on the audience side, and their relative bargaining position playing producer/intermediary. did you learn anything that might change your future behaviour and opinions ?

Changes not all bad

To be contrarian and give a bit more positive spin on things…..

A). I like the variable pricing. In the past I was either making a bunch (vs lakers) or losing a bunch (vs nets) vs what I paid for it. Now it’s easier for me to justify selling lower quality games. And easier to sell on ticketmaster.

B) As season ticket holders we had two options: “risk free” or “NBA” plan. We all had the choice to pay more per ticket for the right to get a refund in cash for unplayed games. To me it was clear what my options were. It sounds like people here chose the risk free and committed to putting up cash for 43 games. You can’t go back on the contract now. I chose risk free and to pay it all ASAP to get the 5% interest because I figured we were going to miss some games anyway (worked out to about $130 credit for me :) If you choose to think about the savings you got per ticket instead of the money the warriors are holding for you, (think of it as free playoff tickets [hopefully]) then you might be a little happier. It’s not like you’re missing out on earning intrest from the bank.

C). Going back to taxes and the 1099 for selling games. You can only be taxed on profit or the difference between the cost of what you sold (expense) and what you sold it for (revenue). The 1099 is reporting revenue only. Plus, The variable ticket pricing makes this issue much easier to deal with since the profit and loss will be much smaller swings. In reality the IRS proably won’t care much about 2 or 4 seat season ticket holders selling tickets because the profit is so small. The warriors have to do this because brokers do this as a business and have 30 to 100+ seats.

I heard that the Warriors didn’t provide a calculation on how they accrued the interest. Granted, it’s pretty easy to figure out, but they just threw out a number saying “this is it.” Anyone else do their own interest calculation and did it jive with the Warriors?
