(lurker here for awhile, finally decided to post cause I can't find any info about this)
I was at the Bobcats game and there was visibly something wrong with Monta Ellis. Not an injury, but he was completely out of sync and defeated looking. Those who weren't at the game can see from the stats that it was a pretty bad game, but that's only half the story. He was constantly kicking around,
shoulder slumped, head far out of the game. He started the game horribly with all of those turnovers and ended it by running away from a Radman crucial inbounds. It was really astonishing to see. We also noticed that on timeouts, staff and Keith Smart were patting him on the back. Several times he sat at the end of the bench during timeouts, even at intense moments...for instance, after the steal and D.Wright's thunderous dunk, everyone was going crazy and jumping him, while Monta slumped over to the end of the bench where he stayed. We tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, assumed he was sick or something, but he played the entire game, including OT, and there was no press about it.
And then there was the Utah game where he had to be benched during crunch time he was so bad, and when Raja Bell was asked about stopping him, he said:
"You could see he wasn't all the way there, whether it was personal or whatever it was. I'm not taking credit for that."
That seems pretty stunning, how often do you hear an opposing player say that? Especially one who prides himself on his defense? We've been to a bunch of games this year, and I know Monta can be mercurial, but he's been %120 present for all of them. And yet nothing on the wires...does he feel betrayed at Lacob's Curry apology, leaving him out? Does he know something about a trade? Is it personal/family? Anyone know what's going on? I have a feeling we're going to find something out soon...
