After Carmelo and Chauncey were traded to the NY Knicks, the Warriors chances of making the playoffs skyrocketed. The Denver Nuggets even before trading Carmelo were in for a tough second half. Now without him, its fair to say that basically they are out.
Denver has 24 games remaining on their schedule.
Among those 24 games, they have a good chance of losing 18 games.
Tonight they play the Memphis Grizzlies who even without Rudy Gay have a much better team than them right now. They are without their new players, Ray Felton, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, and Timothy Mozgov. They are going without any real small forward out there, no backup pg, and very little depth.
The next 3 games after that, they play Boston, Atlanta, and Portland in no particular order. All of which they are likely to lose.In March Denver plays a tough assortment of teams. The teams they are likely to lose against are: Charlotte, Utah, Phoenix, New Orleans, Atlanta, Boston, Orlando, Miami, and San Antonio.
Memphis tied for 8th seed really also is out of it too. Rudy Gay is going to be out at least 1 month, likely could miss entire season. Memphis is screwed without him. He is their best player by far and no other sf or guard on that team is half the player he is. In addition, they already had little depth before the injury, now much less.
The Jazz are going through a rough patch, but they are still the 8th seed. They also have a 4 game lead over us with 2 less games to play. The Jazz will probably be able to overcome their problems and come through. There is a chance though that the turmoil could continue and they could slip.
The Warriors are competing with only Phoenix for that 8th seed. The Suns have a one and a half game advantage over us, but have to play an extra game. Out of their 27 remaining games, they are likely to lose 14 of those games. They play Atlanta Wednesday which they probably will lose. In March, they play Boston, OKC, Orlando, New Orleans, The Lakers, New Orleans again, then Dallas, and OKC again. To close out the season, The Suns play the Spurs, Mavs, Bulls, Hornets, and San Antonio again.
We are realistically only competing with PHX, but honestly they do have a big advantage. We still have a chance though, a good chance to make the playoffs. The race will be tight, but if we can stay healthy we can maybe get to .500 and make that 8th seed.
