I already know I'm going to get heat for this, but once again, everyone needs to just calm down.
It's no doubt that the past day has sucked if you happen to be a Warriors fan. But please, before any more rumblings of a FO coup via fanbase happen (which is impossible), just take a second to think about the future rather than the now.Of course, the first aggravating part of the previous statement is that we've endured more than a decade of future with little accomplishment. It's been too long since we've even caught the faintest taste of glory, and much like everyone other GSOMer, I want it now.... as in right now, this season.
But unless you're the city of Miami, LA, or New York, it's just not that plausible to have true great players materialize.
The Troy Murphy trade was a head-scratcher at first. It was probably the most anti-climatic trade imaginable, and undoubtedly left everyone dumbfounded. But let's just make something clear - in no way did this trade make us worse. It could be argued that we traded potential (Wright) and consistency (Gadz, played like a champ in the minutes he was given) for a second round pick and a mild increase in free cap space (the money's confusing, i won't get into it, but we cleared up a little cash in the process). it could also be argued, as seen vehemently by GovSteph and his followers, that B Wright is worth more than a second round pick. This, in the end, could be valid, but hey, there's really no way of telling that until we actually find out.
So, that being said, we took a baby step. We traded two respectable gentlemen, who can contribute in there own ways, but were never going to get their true chances wearing blue and yellow. They would never get the playing time to prove their worth to GS, so their leave will not hurt us that badly. We brought back a pick that was previously missing, and in my book, that's a plus. In no way is that as satisfying as bringing a true game changer to the bay, but it's at least a step in the right direction.
GSOM exploded after the transaction; many called for the removal of the entire FO, some even denounced their Fandom. The attitude here was pissed off, and frankly, infuriatingly annoying. We acted like that was our one trade of the season (which it very well could be), yet the deadline had yet to be finished.
This lackluster trade, in no way, should already destroy the progress and the reputation that Lacob, Guber, and Riley have actually made. All three have had a short tenure as upper management, and it cannot be denied that we have made steps forward since the Cohan era truly ended.
The writing on the wall is clear - we were a bad team last season. We made trades for Lee, signed Wright, developed Curry and Monta, and improved publicity with the signing of Lin and the drafting of Udoh (not that publicity counts for anything).
This season - we're better. There's no arguing that, we're better. We'll be 10 + wins better. There are still holes to be filled and the season may not equate to playoffs, but I'll take whatever I can get.
Stop whining. Stop bitching. We have what we're given, and that's a young team with a lot of potential and room to grow. When it comes to the trade deadline, there's only so much that the Warriors had to offer or that others wanted, so I'd consider it a win.
The FO is trying their hardest. Duh.
