Kendrick Perkins to the Thunder for Jeff Green and Nenad Krystic??

Also Battier to Memphis and Aaron Brooks to Phoennix.

We couldn't have used any of these guys? Sheesh.

Never healthy...

Steph Curry and Reggie Williams all day baby!

by GovernorStephCurry on Feb 24, 2011 12:31 PM PST up reply actions

And Perkins is?

They weren’t going to resign perkins. I gotta believe they don’t make this trade without there medical staff saying Shaq/Jermaine will be fine.

Also Perkins re-hurt his knee.

Considering their management (trade for Rondo, people don’t realize Phoenix drafted him) and manage to trade for garnett giving away all there ‘young talent’ except rondo/perkins (who hadn’t done anything to date) cause they knew there value I’ll give them beenfit of doubt.

Jeff Green is good by the way, bad this year, but his potential is good. Perhaps Bostons system maximizes him as a 6th/7th man. Nenad is a body who will get 10 minutes a game max if everyone is healthy.

It’s a win-win for both teams as far as I’m concerned. That is assuming Boston knew they wouldn’t resign Perkins. If they would, then I say no.

yeah

but Perkins was going to walk, Celts had ZERO young players for the next phase of the organization. And Perkins is still recovering frmo that knee, keeping him was no gaurantee for a title

This

He declined a 48 mil deal. He was gone so might as well deal him

Not when you’re a serious championship contender. He improved their chances at an NBA title more in the next four months than that draft pick ever will.

It's always a balancing act when you're an old contender.

How many chips do you push into the center of the table?

The Celtics just decided not to push all their chips to the center of the table this year. Maybe they think the tiny edge to their championship hopes from keeping him (remember, he’s barely played so far this year) wasn’t worth trying to mitigate some of the coming pain, and theyknew they couldn’t afford to keep him.

It’s an interesting choice. I would understand why Celts fans would hate it – when you have a chance for a title, go for it, full bore.

But many of those same fans will be bitching at the team two years from now when they’re laboring under a bunch of guaranteed deals for over-the-hill players, and have no young talent to put next to Rondo.

by Ronaldinho on Feb 24, 2011 2:59 PM PST up reply actions

wasn’t worth trying to mitigate some of the coming pain

what pain exactly? Perkins has an expiring contract? Nate’s contract has one year left at $4.5M. They took on another expiring (Krstic) and Green who has one year left. I don’t see how this helped them from a financial standpoint or a talent standpoint. Can you explain it?

The only thing I can reason is that they think Jeff Green at SF is more helpful than having Perk play C, but that seems a stretch to me.

Green will be re-signable

And they are short at his position now. He also isn’t a bad player, underperforming but still young, and maybe they see something there (like they did with Rondo and Perkins).

If healthy, they are fine at center.

There management has proven smart. So

Green IS a bad player.

They picked up a first-round pick.

Young talent to reload, which they’re really going to need in a year or two. Allen, Pierce, and Garnett

by Ronaldinho on Feb 24, 2011 8:28 PM PST up reply actions

I would have kept him no doubt and risk it

But I see where they are coming from

No he didn’t. He said the deal was close around 4 year 22 mil. HUGE difference.

no guarantee for a title, but a much better shot at a title. Nate Robinson isn’t very good but neither or Krstic or Green. A title contender essentially trading an effective big for a future pick is a bad deal.

oh yeah, a bad deal for sure

I am just reaching for an explanation here

Horrible, horrible move for the C’s (unless they have phase 2 waiting in the wings somehow).

I work next to a big Boston fan and he is noticably depressed

I can’t believe the Celtics did that…

by belilaugh on Feb 24, 2011 12:18 PM PST reply actions

Celtics weren't going to re-sign him, obviously

His knee is clearly not better and probably won’t be fore the playoffs, they have the O’Neal brothers, and they get the wing player they were looking for in Green. I’d say it was a win for them, actually.

Boston has agreed to send Nate Robinson and K. Perkins to Oklahoma City in exchange for Jeff Green and other pieces, source says

Thank you, Warriors. It is not like we can’t do it but we decided not to do it. So much for Lacob’s connection to Boston.

I’d definitely be willing to include either Wright or Reggie for Perkins. Both guys are better players than Green, but we don’t have a pick to include. I’m not sure we could reasonably beat that offer.

Portland managed to get Wallace and keep Andre Miller. They just bought their ticket into the playoffs

Lot of different stories out there

Cunningham goes to Cats + Przybilla, 2 1sts for Wallace.

is another story

yeah

I’ve heard 2 first rounders as well as a decent C

better than anything Dubs could have offered

Other teams are going around trying to make improvements in some way, while we’re standing pat satisfied with trading for Troy freakin’ Murphy.

Frustration mounting…

by WYK on Feb 24, 2011 12:41 PM PST up reply actions

ahh it's true.

That’s too bad, because trading Mayo for McRoberts would have made Memphis worse which would have improved our Playoff chances.

by Precise Films Productions on Feb 24, 2011 1:04 PM PST up reply actions

The Celtics traded several players, including center Kendrick Perkins on Wednesday, potentially clearing the way to obtain Troy Murphy once he clears waivers.
The Celtics will be starting either Nenad Krstic or Kevin Garnett at center until Shaquille O’Neal is healthy, and could give that job to Murphy if and when they acquire him, making him worth a grab in fantasy leagues. Related: Kendrick Perkins, Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Garnett

by tolliver on Feb 24, 2011 12:44 PM PST reply actions

How does replacing Kendrick Perkins with Troy Murphy make any sense in improving their chances at winning the title? They basically just screwed themselves against the Lakers.

by WYK on Feb 24, 2011 12:47 PM PST up reply actions

The thing is, a hurt Perkins is still a helluva lot better than Troy Murphy.

Great deal for OKC.

Hard to understand what Boston was thinking – why do you give up talent when you’re on a championship run. Meanwhile, if Perk’s knee is okay, then OKC just dramatically improved their chances against the Lakers in the playoffs.

by Ronaldinho on Feb 24, 2011 1:46 PM PST reply actions

agreed

OKC may have just made the move that lets them start thinking about legit title contention
