Note that as the starting center, he is averaging 11.6 points, 9.0 rebounds (3.5 off/5.5 def) and 2.8 fouls all in 33 mins per night. He could be replacing Beans for years to come.

I wanted Monroe during the draft, but then I thought it didn't really matter once we got Udoh because I assumed neither would make that much of an impact and at least Udoh would provide good defense

but now I’m wishing we would have gone with Monroe. Like you said, he’d be our center and we wouldn’t have to worry about going and finding one. You can tell by the number that Monroe has really stepped up his level of play on both sides of the ball and is being aggressive. Udoh on the other hand, hasn’t really shown any growth in the time that he’s spent with us. Granted Ekpe doesn’t play nearly as much as Monroe, I still don’t see Ekpe being able to rebound at the level that Monroe does, or being able to score as efficiently as Monroe. Another sucky thing for us is that Ekpe doesn’t even block that much more than Monroe does anymore.

There is no way you could line up Monroe and David Lee as your starting frontcourt and expect to win games. There is no defense between the 2 of them. Udoh already has more blocks than Monroe with less minutes and games played.

There is no way you could line up Udoh and David Lee as your starting frontcourt and expect to win games. There is no post up offense, or meaningful rebounding between the 2 of them. Monroe is already a legit rebounder and low post scorer.

Steph Curry and Reggie Williams all day baby!

You cant line up Udoh or Monroe next to Lee then. Udoh is as good on defense as Monroe is on offense. Udoh can get better on offense but ive never seen a Big become good on defense after he’s been bad.

Why do you think Monroe's bad on defense?

Pistons are better defensively than they are without him.

Monroe is as good on Defense as David Lee is. Take that how u want.

Watching him play.

doesn't count, if you don't quantify it into numbers

:)

He’s not very athletic. Not at all. He’s slow footed, he can’t really defend. He is highly skilled though.

The combo of him and Lee is horrendous.

That said, if LEE was the reason we took a defensive udoh over Monroe, Riley needs to go. Taking a potential 4th big in a rotation with the 6th pick is just blasphemy

But defensively Monroe is terrible

I’d rather line up Monroe with Biedrins or Randolph to be honest.

i’d rather not pay david lee 80 mil to not make the playoffs is basically what I’m saying

LOL.

Wonder if you could lineup Udoh and Monroe…

I'm looking forward to the Warriors being led to the playoffs by Monta Ellis AND Stephen Curry.

I’ve also noticed his recent run of good games. I’ve been checking a few of the box scores, and when looking at these games I noticed the other team’s big guys score an awful lot when playing the pistons.

It doesn't matter how good Monroe is

If we had him Smart would have had him sitting on the bench and we wouldn’t have known what his capabilities are

Based on what?

I think he’d play cause of his skill level.

by tafkasam on Mar 1, 2011 9:20 AM PST up reply actions

I don't think theres any doubt that he was the best draft option for us at 6.

Solid post game, active player, long, good skills. Able to play both C and PF.

He may be better suited as a PF…but so is Udoh. Obviously more upside. Taller. Younger. More skills.

You should never draft based on need until you have a true championship caliber team or at least something close to it. You should always look to take the best player available. Taking Udoh remains a fail.

Indeed. Would we pass on John Wall since we have Curry/Monta?

First you acquire talent, then you make moves to make a team. Right now we are short of talent. We had a 6 pick to pick up some and failed

+1

In this corner: Greg Monroe, 6’11", 20 years old, and averaging 11.2 pts (on .555 TS) and 9.5 rebounds per 36, and improving rapidly.

In this corner: Ekpe Udoh, 6’10", 23 years old, and averaging 7.7 pts (on .485 TS) and 6.4 rebounds per 36, and showing no real signs of improvement.

I just don’t see how Udoh’s edge in blocked shots comes anywhere close to closing that gap. If we were to pick again right now, would anyone, outside of J-Ridah, pick Udoh?

The Ws could have gone totally by the book and picked Monroe. Or they could have been ballsy and taken a young, athletic freak with upside like Paul George or Aminu. They ended up with the worst of both worlds. So far, Udoh at #6 is looking like a POB-level FAIL.

There will be no extra point!
