26 - 35

is the record that the '06 - '07 Warriors team had 61 games into the season. It seemed as if the Warriors were not going to the playoffs for the 14th straight season, and in an interview after an 83 - 113 loss against the Chicago Bulls, Don Nelson said, "I thought I could get this team in the playoffs and it looks like I'm not going to be able to do it..... I feel like I've failed." After the embarrassing loss the Warriors would lose 2 more games against the Knicks and the Wizards, adding more grief to the Warriors organization, and its loyal fan-base. The Warriors would go 16 - 5 in their last 21 games, ending the season with a 120 - 98 win against the Portland Trailblazers.

Four years later, and this Golden State team is sitting on a 26 - 32 record, currently  on a 3 game losing streak, and is starting to lose the faith from a lot of its fans. With 23 games left in the season (14 on the road) here are my keys to the rest of the season:

#1: Get Andris more open looks
       If the Dubs want more production from their starting center, try setting him a screen every once in a while, get him an open look, it'll surly boost his confidence. More playing time from Smart wouldn't hurt either.

#2: Bench needs to step up
       Reggie Williams and maybe Vlad can't be the only people off the bench giving the Warriors quality minutes. Lou Amundson, Ekpe Udoh, Charlie Bell, and Acie Law, has to step their game up to the best of their abilities.

#3: Smart needs to trust his rookies:
       Jeremy Lin has clearly earned more playing time than Acie Law, but Smart doesn't see it that way. Also, you can't expect Jeff Adrien to get comfortable with 0 PT since the re-signing.

#4: Curry needs to handle the ball 100% of the time he's on the court/Monta needs to play off the ball
       Curry as the ball handler would make everyone on the floor more productive, when Monta's dribbling the ball, everyone just stands around watching him, as if they don't want to get in his way. Playing Monta off the ball would play to his strengths: moving without the ball, with quickness to get to the rim.

#5: Everyone needs to be on the same page at all times
       We can't just have one or two players having a good game every game, with everyone else not playing well. Everyone needs to play their absolute best for the rest of the season.

Rest of the schedule:
* = winnable games
** = stretch win (maybe)

@ Pacers*
@ Wizards*
@ Celtics
@ 76ers*
@ Cavaliers*
@ Nets*
Magic
T'Wolves*
@ Kings*
Mavericks**
@Suns
@Mavericks
@Spurs
@Rockets**
Raptors*
Wizards*
@Thunder**
@Grizzlies
Mavericks
@Blazers**
Lakers
Kings*
@Nuggets*
Blazers*

That would put us at 42 - 40. That mark we had in 06-07.
Do you think that's enough to make the playoffs?

Wow, does lightning strike in the same bottle twice?

before the break

I was optimistic about a possible playoff berth, but it seems that the entire troy murphy saga/lack of progressive transaction has disheartened this entire team. Either way, i seel them winning 37 this seAson. Utah will fall just low enough that the suns can slip in. And im one of the rare thinkers that believes that the nuggets are waaaay scarier now then they were, so theyll stay where they are.

Its time to give extended garbage time to ekpe, lin, and lou.

It's lonely being the only Warriors fan at UMass :(

I'm also really down on the Warriors

after their pathetic post-ASG showing. I almost don’t care anymore.

Also

The Jazz are already out of it. The West playoffs is looking like SA, DAL, LA, OKC, DEN, NO, MEM, POR right now. If the early returns on the new look Nugs are any indicator, then they’ll probably stick around.

You're not the only one,,,,

who thinks the Nuggets are actually better. They now have the deepest roster in the NBA, literally 10 players who could start on your average team.

Screw this team.

First time in a long time i’m not excited when the Warriors play.

Steph Curry and Reggie Williams all day baby!

And with trading away players like Brandan, reducing minutes for Reggie, Curry, and Lin and then signing Al Thornton, wow.

Larry Riley and Lacob are just as bad, if not worse than the previous regime. I don’t get why people hate on Mullin. He’s better than the buffoon in the GM role now. Got us Baron, Biedrins, Monta, Jackson, Harrington, Buike, Brandan, AR…. i have doubts he was behind Maggette’s signing. Rowell was the one trying to get Arenas and Brand, so i suspect that was Rowell too.

Steph Curry and Reggie Williams all day baby!

I don’t get why people hate on Mullin. He’s better than the buffoon in the GM role now

He gave 120 mil to dunmurphy
He gave adonal 6 years/44 mil when he’d shown about as much as udoh
He gave fisher 5 year/34 mil
A combine 200 mil for that fearsome 4some

He drafted ike diogu over Danny Granger
He drafted POB over just not picking anyone (the better option)
He traded Harrington for Crawford (when knicks would have given us better)

He traded Harrington for Crawford (when knicks would have given us better)

He wasn’t GM then. Riley was in charge and rowell had bannished Mullin away.

And he got rid of every bad contract that he gave out, and acquired only true star this team’s had in a LOOOOONG time.

Steph Curry and Reggie Williams all day baby!

yes exactly

Baron for Speedy and Dale Davis needs to be mentioned.

And also DunMurphy for Jax and Harrington.

by Billy Frijoles on Mar 2, 2011 10:46 AM PST up reply actions

Mullin clearly believed that the first step to improve a players performance was to pay them more money.

If we were to make a 'we believe' type run

We’d need to pick up 1-2 legitimate players along with all our starters + reggie producing.

Because as of now, the only players on this team I even trust are our starting 5 + reggie and maybe vlad.

by tafkasam on Mar 1, 2011 3:40 PM PST reply actions

Sadly, tanking won't make a difference

If we go 4-20 we still won 30 games which wouldn’t put us in good position to get him.

We’re going to need to luck out. If we’re lucky we might be able to trade Udoh + our pick to move up, if there is a player with it.

by tafkasam on Mar 1, 2011 4:03 PM PST up reply actions

you trust andris?

I'm looking forward to the Warriors being led to the playoffs by Monta Ellis AND Stephen Curry.

by Brownie13 on Mar 1, 2011 4:05 PM PST up reply actions

Not at all

But Andris at full potential is trustable. Lou/Udoh at full potential are still bleh

lol i was just wondering.

cuz u said u trusted the starting 5

I'm looking forward to the Warriors being led to the playoffs by Monta Ellis AND Stephen Curry.

by Brownie13 on Mar 1, 2011 4:08 PM PST up reply actions

I should elaborate

To make a we believe run we need all our players at their full potential like they were in 2006/7. Even if that happened we only have 6 to 7 players capable of challenging teams in playoffs. I don’t care if Acie Law, Jeremy Lin or Ekpe Udoh play to their best ability, it’s still not playoff level. Reggie, Vlad, Biedrins can do that (or have the ability I should say).

My point being, even if everyone caught fire, we’re not deep enough period.

Tired of trying to boost Biedrin's confidence

Didn’t the Warriors go through a string of games where the opening possessions where just dump the ball to him to build his confidence? Nobody can boo him because it hurts his confidence. Smart spent the offseason with him to build his confidence. There was a fanpost about Smart getting Curry/Ellis/Monta together for some team drills so that they’ll know where to feed him the ball & build his confidence.

Now we should run screens for him to build his confidence? Are we talking about an NBA professional player or some emo teenager?

I’d love to see Biedrins turn it around & play well … but I’m not expecting it. Hopefully, one more off-season will be enough for him to snap out of it.

That season we also got back some injured players at the right time

like Jason Richardson and played some poor competition, while the good competition we played benched there quality players to rest for the Playoffs. Funny that the Mavs were one of those teams, and oops you let us in the playoffs and we beat you hahahaha. Good memories I found a season ticket holder that didn’t like NBA basketball and sold me tickets to the last 8 games of the season and let me buy tickets for the first playoff game in 13 YEARS!!!! That place was rocking all night long.

It's all about the killer cross-over baby!
