Why did gum Gumbyorpokey stop doing Highlights?

This may have been discussed before but I am not aware why so if someone could tell me?

by americaneagle510 on Mar 25, 2011 10:36 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

He doesn't do highlights after every game

I think he only does highlights for games that we won or for games with lots of highlights.

I'm glad to eat cheese...at least for tonight

The team deserves to throw up a big middle finger to some of us fans tonight. I know they’re not happy with that road trip but to get schiittt from the fans back home must kinda suck, especially when you’re talking about Warrior fans. I admit; I was being kind of a hater lately.

But at least for tonight, these guys get to say “#$#$ you” to the haters. I hope they like that feeling because that’s how they should feel after every game. Obviously something clicked. I honestly expect them to play out the season trying to capitalize on tonight’s momentum.

Has it really gotten so bad that we can’t even be happy when our team plays one of its best games of the season?

Be Happy for our guys, because they needed this after the bad stretch and finally giving up hope on the playoffs. Go Warriors.

Not to hate or anything, but did Monta really have to play 40+ minutes? Why did Keith Smart leave him in for so long with a 30-40 point lead? These are the types of games that Acie Law and Charlie Bell should play in, not the games where the score is close (Adrien probably should have played more, too). However, I see that Smart did seem to manage the rest of the bench well with 3 bench players getting 20+ minutes and the rest of the starters averaging 30 minutes each.

by Wolvkil23 on Mar 26, 2011 2:15 AM PDT reply actions

I read that Smart wanted to send a message, but playing Monta over 40 minutes after he logged tons of minutes this season to beat up even more on a crappy team is completely unneeded.

by Wolvkil23 on Mar 26, 2011 2:22 AM PDT up reply actions

This team firing like this can play with a lot of teams, that is undeniable.

Side Note: Id pay money for Anthony Marrow back on this team, getting minutes off the bench.
Side Note: I would pick up Azubuike and not pay him much money.
Side Note: I would embrace being a great shooting team.

I think we have have been seeing how an all jump shooting, no inside offense team can "play" with the good teams this last decade and a half.

It's not just the jump shooting

It’s the complete lack of defense and poor passing. If we were a jump shooting team who could defend and didn’t turn it over, wouldn’t be as big an issue

I liked Ed Davis

Though I suppose anyone can put up 18 and 11 on David Lee. Somewhere MB is smiling…

Other thoughts-
-People who think Monta is just Leandro Barbosa need to take off the blinders
-Dorell, keeps improving. I don’t see how you can dislike him. Really great pick up

The real key to this game was ball movement (well toronto’s inability to stop it). 33 assists

by tafkasam on Mar 26, 2011 9:57 AM PDT reply actions

People who think Monta is just Leandro Barbosa need to take off the blinders

Not much point in taking blinders off of straw men — they can’t see anyway.

I know how fun/easy it is to take aim at statements no one ever made (or statements that have been distorted to the point of where they’re no longer recognizable) but if you want to have a go at something someone actually said, try this one: Monta is Louis Williams. Comparable scorers, comparable passers, comparable rebounders. Monta forces more steals but (going by plus-minus) Williams appears to be a less bad defender overall.

Main difference that I can see is that Philly seems to understand that Williams is a 25-30 mpg bench sparkplug / scoring machine who basically deserves his $5-6M a year; whereas Keith Smart and much of Warriors Nation seem to think of Monta as some kind of franchise player. And heck, even if that’s a quasi-straw man, the fact remains that Monta is making $11M for Lou Williams-level production.

He was a stud last night, tho. Lee, Curry, Dorell, and Udoh too. Basically, each of the 5 starters had one of their best games of the year. You’re not going to lose much when that happens.

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Mar 26, 2011 10:46 AM PDT up reply actions

I knew you'd reply :)

It was just a general comment. Monta’s got a lot more game than Leandro or Lou. Effectiveness is a different issue, I’d argue it’s all keith’s fault. He gives Monta more freedom than any player in NBA which is just stupid. You don’t see Lebron, Kobe get that freedom and they are vastly superior players. I won’t argue he and Biedrins (and Lee) are overpaid. If Atma commented more, I’m sure a nice jab at Mullin would come in shortly.

In general I’m annoyed by Smart. I want to see Monta under a coach with a leash and see how he responds. I do think efficiency and offensive effectiveness will go up.

Lou isn’t a better defender by the way. But it helps when you play majority of your minutes next to an elite defensive SG.

by tafkasam on Mar 26, 2011 10:56 AM PDT up reply actions

Monta’s got a lot more game than […] Lou.

Meh. Without a definition of “game,” I don’t think this means much. Lou’s an exciting undersized combo guard with speed and hops to burn who can light it up, handle a bit, and set up his teammates (Barbosa’s not quite as athletic and more of a spot-up shooter). What specifically does Monta have on Lou, beyond the fact that he plays more minutes and that you’re a Warriors fan?

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Mar 26, 2011 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions

What specifically does Monta have on Lou, beyond the fact that he plays more minutes and that you’re a Warriors fan?

A much better youtube highlight reel :)

In all seriousness, I do think Monta is even more mismanaged than Curry (who is horribly mismanaged in his own right). Monta has certain skills few in the NBA do. Quickness and ability to finish at the rim, come to mind. Considering our teams general inability to get to the rim, that’s valuable. Even being way overused his numbers haven’t gone down in that regard. He’s become better at passing while driving. The amount of assisted 3 pointers he’s given speaks to that. I can think of a few dump offs each game too, which don’t get finisheD (by the likes of Udoh, Lou etc.).

Lou is a better shooter, I don’t see very much similarity in terms of what they do well.

If Monta was used correctly, I believe we’d see a lot better production. By that I mean, less minutes, tighter leash etc. Let’s run some sort of an actual offense, where the ball is in curry’s hands more. Let Monta slash off him. If he’s uncoachable and unwilling to do that, then we have a problem, but I don’t see that.

All that said, he is overpaid but still less crippling than Biedrins and Lee
