Keith Smart
On the defensive effort:
"The thing that I am finding out more and more as I coach, I knew already as a player. What you emphasize you have a stronger belief to carry that out… I thought throughout the streak we have been in, we have gotten away from a lot of little things on drives to the baseline, someone coming to help and someone closing out there. So we just broke it down yesterday and they were not really happy. They had a good practice, but I thought we were a little lethargic this morning because we did have a pretty good one (practice) last night."
Stephen Curry
On looking to end the trip 3-4:
"We came in with high hopes and high expectations and we did not start off the trip the way we wanted. To get three, hopefully tomorrow, get the last one and finish the road trip nicely. That is the only thing we can control right now. We have to go into tomorrow with a lot of energy, it is a back-to-back, and play well."
David Lee
On the defensive effort:
"I thought our effort defensively was pretty good. We played a great first quarter as a group. We had a good first quarter and I thought we played better from that point on."

On responding to the Cavs cutting the lead to four in the fourth quarter:
"They were at home and they are a team that plays hard and does not give up so we knew that they were going to make a run and we just countered back with a little run of our own and we finished the game out and we got some stops down the stretch."

I chose Monta cause he had a complete line and had a career high on 3's tonight

But Thornton is a nice player so far. Good defender and solid on offense. Not a passer at all and isn’t a great piece if your trying to go deep in the playoffs as a 6th or 7th man but is good for us right now to give us something off the bench consistently. We need more TCGs!

I voted team win

but I wish there was a “backcourt team win” since Monta and Steph were both incredible last night!

Didn't watch.

At least we didn’t lose. Nothing to be gained or taken from this game, though.

Where do we go from here?

by Brownie13 on Mar 8, 2011 11:04 PM PST reply actions

Coincidence?

That Stephen Curry was +20 and Monta Ellis was +5?
That Stephen Curry assisted Monta on two consecutive jumpers in the third to get him going (before that Monta was cold as ever, because of that people are voting for Monta for WW)?
That Stephen Curry dug the Warriors out of the hole (dug by running Monta-ball in the first) in the beginning of the second quarter, after which the Warriors didn’t look back?

I think not.

btw I have nothing against Monta

I’m just pissed people keep voting for him as if points are the only thing that matters. He still ended up the night with an inefficient stat line and a lot of people ignore Curry’s obvious effect on the game.

ya, he did play a relatively good game tonight

i’m just saying his overall positive effect and contribution to the Warrior’s win was nowhere near that of Curry’s

Ellis' 3 pt. accuracy in this game

will probably perpetuate negative tendencies : it disguised mediocre shooting efficiency (24 pts. from 21 attempts overall) and can only increase his overconfidence in his ability to shoot from long range.

There are bigger problems to worry about than this.

Such as Law sucks and still get all the minutes. Reggie is great and get close to no minutes.

by ILoveWarriorsGirls on Mar 8, 2011 11:35 PM PST up reply actions   1 recs

+1

The last thing we need to worry about is Monta getting 24 on 21 shots. Law playing so much and Reggie 3 minutes just isn’t smart. Or is it?!?!

Terrible joke…

I dunno

Monta went 9 for 21
that’s not good, but I bet both him and Coach Smart think he had an amazing shooting night…which he did, from deep, in the 3rd quarter

rest of the game, not so much

Steph and Monta both had great games (that late offensive rebound and putback by Curry was critical!!), no need to bash one or the other, they both play for your favorite team

by warriorsablaze on Mar 8, 2011 11:22 PM PST reply actions

How about that Law guy?

1-4, 0 ast for 15 min. Smart must love him so much that he wants Law to be the offense guy instead of a passer PG.

Good thing D William is not playing tomorrow, that give us a chance to win (how sad!). Lin might as well go to China town to have some Chinese food. Smart will NEVER play youngsters.

Thornton played well tonight

I like that he attacked the basket aggressively and did pretty well on D when he came in. Is already a better defender than Reggie..but then again that bar is low

reggie is a sg….dunno why we need to compare them…should compare thorton to vlad…thorton is way better yet vlad keeps playing…terrible

Use more people to improve defense

Now we have better people. Smart should use them to improve defense. People should be judged by their defense efforts and intensity. Let guy play 4 minutes, but his efforts on defense and rebounding should be superb. Also a good idea is to ride on "hot hand’. Dorrel definitely needs some rest. His effectiveness took a dive

by Ambal on Mar 9, 2011 9:37 AM PST reply actions

Dorrell and Reggie could split minutes so he could rest up but Smart is retarded.

Lin should be seeing 15 minutes a game. I don’t understand why Acie Law, the has-been that never went anywhere, gets so many minutes every night.

People say it’s because he goes balls to the walls in practice, but isn’t it obvious that he could put in 110% for practice and STILL SUCK during games? His efficiency is ridiculous and he literally wastes a position when he comes in. His rare nights of production don’t compensate the number of times he’s done absolutely nothing. So frustrating to see him play when the rest of our bench is so hungry for their chance to play.

by GoldenStateWinners on Mar 9, 2011 9:49 AM PST reply actions

He plays pretty decent defense, which doesn’t show up in the box score. That said, I don’t understand it either. I’d rather have Curry playing more or even Jeremy Lin.

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is Monta Ellis when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Anybody else catch Monta talking about still making the playoffs?!

That’s crazy talk. I appreciate our boys going out strong, but c’mon, really?
I’m not even going to bother to look at the remaining schedules. It may still be mathmaticly possible, but we are not going to catch the Suns or the Rockets

I guess they have not got the “time to tank” memo

You have to set the example that you won’t give up until it’s mathematically over.

Monta is keeping the hope alive, but I really do not want to see another strong run to end a meaningless season (same as last year)…
still manage to find myself rooting against my better judgement for wins every game

what would you have him say?

… “yeah Jim, we’re done for the season… we’ll probably just try to lose as many games as possible to increase our draft position.”

As others have pointed out, the “We Believe” team was in a nearly identical position at this point in the season. Anything can happen. Player get injured, teams implode (look at Miami right now), etc.. if you would have them do anything but give a full go towards the playoffs, you’re not really a fan of sports.

by warriorsablaze on Mar 9, 2011 12:25 PM PST up reply actions

the "We Believe" team was in a nearly identical position at this point in the season.

Not really. It looks superficially similar: on 9 March 2007, the Ws were 29-35, just a half game better than the current team. However, in terms of standings, the We Believe crew were looking at a much easier row to hoe.

Western Conf. Standings on 3/9/2007
6. LAL +3.0
7. DEN +0.5
8. LAC —
9. SAC -0.5
10. GSW -1.5
11. NOH -1.5

Western Conf. Standings on 3/9/2011
5. DEN +1.5
6. POR +1.5
7. NOH +0.5
8. MEM —
9. PHO -1.5
10. UTA -2.5
11. HOU -3.5
12. GSW -7.0

The We Believe team was 1.5 games back of the #8 seed with two teams to leapfrog. This team is 7.0 games back of the #8 seed with four teams to leapfrog. Night and day — a realistic shot v. a totally unrealistic shot.

if you would have them do anything but give a full go towards the playoffs, you’re not really a fan of sports.

Well, sure, ‘cos that’s what athletes do. But as a fan, if you’ve totally given up hope on the Warriors making the playoffs this year, all it means is that you’re reality-based. There’s “we believe” and then there’s “we pipedream.”

There will be no extra point!

yeah, I do take a little offense to the whole “yer not really a fan” sentiment because I am pretty disgustingly interested in the Dubs (yes, even now), still watch all the games, and spend more time than I should on GSoM talking about the team

The pace setter right now is Memphis. We’re 7 games behind them with 19 left. I haven’t parsed the schedule either (no point, really), but on a quick glance: we have 10 road games left and they have 7.

And oh-by-the-way… between us and Memphis there’s Houston (3.5 games ahead of us), Utah (4.5 games up) and Phoenix (5.5 games up) to contend with.

Mathematically a non-zero shot — realistically zero.

There will be no extra point!
