We also almost got Nate Rob and a 1st for Wright

More quick notes

- We talked about Hinrich
- Lacob wants to adress the center spot
- And he wants more stat use then any team in the NBA apparently but wants to make a study on stats itself to see how useful they really are

I'm still rather disappointed at how we gave away Brandan Wright.

I know it’s been tediously repeated, but if we were able to get Nate Robinson and a first rounder for Wright, why did Mr. Lacob settle for a second rounder? As I read in the article, Boston backed out, but I think it would have been a better move to hold onto Wright, increase his trade value by playing him, perhaps, then flip him if a favorable draft-day deal were offered.
Haha, I’m simply regretting that deal quite a bit.

the team wouldn't possess the rights to trade Wright

on draft day unless it paid for them first with the 4.5m + qualifying offer. At some point between the summer and end of 2010 Riley and Lacob ruled out extending that offer. What we can’t determine from an outside perspective, whether that verdict came because of what they saw on the court and Smart’s decisions to play him so little, or if Smart froze him out because he knew the bosses didn’t see sufficient value to justify more investment. Wright’s last chance might have passed when he had disc problems and couldn’t practice or play at the same time both Udoh and Amundson were recovering from injuries.

It appears based on the article that Boston agreed to trade for Wright only to put together another trade that sent him to a third team. That other trade didn’t happen, Boston made the Perkins-OKC trade instead. Since Boston made a different trade instead, they didn’t have any reason to trade for Wright.

It looks like we can’t say Lacob didn’t try.

by Slightly Hyphy on Mar 8, 2011 9:00 PM PST reply actions

does this count as "trying"

I don’t know

unless we were unloading somebody with a longer contract (maybe Beans) than this would have been a pretty pointless move

Wish we could have gotten that extra first round pick. Oh well, we can still try and get another first rounder at the draft.

….i really wouldn’t want to add Antawn Jamison to this team. He’s kinda a scrub now, and is being paid a huge sum of money. Unless we could trade Biedrins/Lee/Ellis for him i don’t see the point. He’s not an upgrade over Udoh/Lou in the frontcourt.

Money for the Dwight/Wallace/CP3/ A lot of other really good player offseason

and a solid motive for Cle to hoard that expiring deal

for their own purpose. It sounds like Lacob also wanted a draft pick from Cle, and the relative value of the low cost talent source that draft picks represent has made them a valued commodity. possibly the deal-breaker.

That’s not a very accurate way of portraying it. As far as I can tell, we were only going to trade expirings away in this deal. Sending out expiring contracts, and taking back Jamison/Parker, would not have freed up any additional money for the 2012 offseason that isn’t already freed up by our existing expiring contracts. Basically, the trade does nothing to help us in the 2012 offseason whatsoever.

by Missing Barry on Mar 9, 2011 7:42 AM PST up reply actions

uhhh how so?

if we free up money this season and dont spend it, it wont help us.

only way we could keep that space for the following season would be to fill up that money with 1 year contracts.

Players we have on contract going into the 2012/2013 season (so the players that affect our cap space that offseason):

Monta Ellis
David Lee
Andris Biedrins
Dorell Wright
Ekpe Udoh
Stephen Curry

That’s it. Unless one or more of those players are included in the deal, it doesn’t change our cap space for that offseason. Cap space isn’t “use it or lose it”. It’s just affected by the players you have on contract.

by Missing Barry on Mar 9, 2011 9:45 AM PST up reply actions

expiring contract

That’s true. Though it could be valuable to have during the season in case someone wants to do a Melo type of deal.

Jamison would’ve been a ridiculously bad fit… the last thing this team needs is another volume scorer who can’t play D. It’s heartening that Lacob talks about learning more about the analytic side of things, but it’s definitely clear that the Warriors aren’t well-versed in that stuff right now.

I had dream last night that we got Zach this offseason

we got all the offense rebounds and the combination of Curry, Monta, D Wright, Zach, Lee takes up to playoff!

I'd prefer him to the current Lee.

But don’t want either at all. Every game that goes by and Lee doesn’t make an impact at all, i dislike him more and more.
