God I miss this guy and our brief moment of relevance.

Me too… I still don’t understand why more contending teams didn’t go after him, not to mention non-contending (dubs).

by range on Apr 1, 2011 5:23 PM PDT reply actions

He's a good player.

But honestly, the more i hear about Barnes and look back at all the flagrant fouls he did as a Warrior, the dude was a complete douche. Didn’t he beat up his girlfriend too? Guys a punk trying to start fights.

+1

after watching that dallas vs lakers game, what barnes did was unacceptable. i get helping your teammate but just completely dogging everyone around you is not acceptable.

And throwing an assistant coach to the ground too...sad.

Yeah but i also acknowledged as a Warrior he did some dirty plays.

And more specifically a really dirty flagrant against Turiaf. And he’s gotten worse with the Magic and Lakers, so is it a problem to change my opinion mr laker fan?

No. He really hasn't gotten worse.

He’s always been the same guy. What I’m saying is I doubt that you recognized how he played or how he was a “douche” until this happened. I truly doubt you’d consider him one if he were not playing for this team. That goes for the other commenter as well, though I don’t know his basketball fandom as well.

Where do we go from here?

by Brownie13 on Apr 1, 2011 7:21 PM PDT up reply actions

No, be quiet.

When he was a Warrior he was grieving his mother’s death and wasn’t doing this punk stuff. Sure he did some flagrant fouls but he was starting problems every game. After he was a Warrior, he beat up his girlfriend. That definitely changed my opinion of him some. And then crap like this. Please, you don’t know me Kobe.

Correction:

He was arrested for domestic violence. His girl at the time said he was wrongfully taken in. It was all over the news. Do you know how many guys are taken in on domestic violence that actually didn’t commit violence against their partner? A fight starts, and even if the woman is the one going ballistic, the man is going to get arrested when the police come to check the noise. Every time. Neither you or I know exactly what happened, but when the woman says he didn’t do it, we take their word for it and not your assumptions.

So you’re wrong there. And as far as Barnes as a Warrior, there isn’t much video out there for him because he wasn’t known. But if you look at him as a Sun and Magic, he did the same things. Why is it you realize he’s a douche for THIS? He said he was gonna throw a dirty diaper in Odom’s face and was an absolute punk in that game against the Lakers.

But that’s just his game. It works against some teams and players, and doesn’t against others. What he did last night really wasn’t all that bad. People (like you) care now because he’s wearing a Laker jersey.

Where do we go from here?

Agree

To be honest I don’t see that much wrong with what barnes did, ya he deserved to be ejected and suspended for a game, but people acting like stuff like this has never been a part of basketball are out of touch with reality. Barnes sent a message and is paying the price but I’m pretty sure the majority of people in the lakers organization were very willing to pay that price.
And no, thats not because the lakers are evil.

He is.

I have an affinity for Laker basketball as well as for the Warriors, so obviously, I’m ACTUALLY Kobe Bryant.

That is actually pretty likely.

Kobe loves the Warriors because he can play against their defense.

Hey Brownie why did you change your number to 24? To respect Monta?

brownie...

You make some valid points but let me say this. There’s also a lot of research out there which shows that abused women often return to their abusers AND lie to authorities saying the abuser didn’t do anything to them, or some other excuse. The reason? Who knows, maybe they don’t want the individual to be locked up, maybe they’re afraid of being abused again if he is put in jail. Hell, maybe she knows he’s her ticket to the good life and doesn’t want to lose him, we don’t know.

What I do know is that if you’re having law enforcement at your home, you play the tough guy/enforcer at work, and you’re arrested for domestic violence, it does more than raise an eyebrow. I cannot call myself a Barnes fan any more.

by SmittytheCutman on Apr 1, 2011 7:57 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Research or not.

Let’s make it clear you’re still making an assumption that goes against the evidence.

In any incidence of domestic voilence

The man will be taken away, I’m with brownie here we don’t know.
I have a friend who’s girlfriend hit him in the head with a plate, neighbors called the cops because they had been yelling, and he was detained, later it came out that he hadn’t touched her and everything was dropped. While this is not the case the majority of the time, stuff like this has happened, yes his gf could be lying, but I still side with the innocent until proven guilty camp.

The issue is that you don’t have the right to decide who should and should not get hit. Furthermore, it’s an unfair advantage and takes no courage whatsoever to hit a woman.

The playoffs are coming! I'm so excited to see who we're going to draft in the... uh.. playoffs.

I think this overdoes what happened last night.

It wasn’t necessary, but it’s definitely typical of Matt Barnes. You know what you’re going to get every time. He wanted to vent some more, so he did it on Twitter, just like he did last year with the Magic.

funny because they were talking bout how soft dallas was and how tyson chandler said while in new olreans

that all they had to do was knock a few chins to win

mavs will never get it. at least the nellie teams could run up and down the floor and drop 120 in regulation at ease

I'm not sure it's about getting it.

It’s really besides Dirk, they don’t have a top player.

Going to the Finals and blowing a 2-0 lead.

Followed by 3 first round exits (and a second round exit) in 4 years has very much to do with not getting it. They’ve actually added more players and talent every year. They traded out Harris for Kidd. They traded out Howard for Butler. They added Roddy and Barea in place of essentially no one. They traded out Dampier and Diop for Chandler and Haywood. They traded out Daniels for Stackhouse and Bass for now Marion, Stevenson, and Peja. They’ve gotten better every year but there’s been no improvement in their playoff success. They don’t get it.

yeah 1-15 no injuries dallas has the deepest team

chandler/haywood/mahimmi
dirk/cardinal
butler/marion/peja
terry/beaubois/stevenson/brewer/jones
kidd/barea

besides jones and brewer all these guys have playoff experience: chandler with the hornets and bobcats, haywood with wiz and mavs, dirk basically the icon of the mavs 11 straight 50 win seasons, cardinal in memphis with gasol, etc, butler in washington and miami, marion in phoenix d’antoni days, terry arriving in dallas right before the finals appearance, stevenson in washington, kidd with phoenix, new jersey, and the second dallas stint, barea with dallas

i mean this is the deepest the mavs have been since the 02 season when they had 4 or 5 seven footers and finley was unguardable at the 2 guard and they are still getting punked like the run and gun no defense steve nash/shawn bradley teams but like i said those teams were designed to and could put up points like the 80’s nuggets, the post nash/nellie mavs sposed to win with defense but has failed because they dont have the heart or toughness to grind games out

Well your top 3 players are more important than your depth.

So a core of Dirk/Kidd/Chandler is not very good besides Dirk, who still remains elite. That’s the point. Besides Dirk, they don’t have a great or very good player besides him. Sure a lot of above average and good players but none good enough to win the title.
