Warrior Wonder Standings (Season Recap)

The 2010-2011 Golden State Warriors began the season with a new look: new ownership, new uniforms, and a new head coach.  But despite starting the season at 6-2 and showing much improvement over last years' squad, the Dubs find themselves in the familiar position of the draft lottery.  Besides the looming threat of a lockout, this summer will be interesting as it will be the first full offseason for the Lacob/Guber ownership group.  Without further ado, here are the final Warrior Wonder Standings for this year.

To be honest, I truly thought Monta Ellis would wind up with the most Warrior Wonders this year.  For the vast majority of the season, he appeared to be the Warriors best player and go-to scorer.  But for the second straight season, Monta led the league with an alarming amount of minutes per game, especially for a player with an injury history.  The lack of rest Monta received throughout the year were the probable cause of his stats once again declining when March rolled around.  While Monta limped to the finish line, David Lee seemed to come into his own during the last month and a half of the season, and he made enough push to claim the 2010-2011 Warrior Wonder of the Year.  At times during the season, Lee struggled to carve his role in the Warriors offense, and defense has never been his calling card.  But by April, Lee looked to be in top form scoring and rebounding the basketball and gave Warriors fans a glimpse of what hopefully will be a better second year in the Bay.                                             Though it seemed like he disappeared for stretches during the regular season, Lee maintained a high level of rebounding throughout the year and his scoring picked up late.  His first season for the Dubs was marked by a number of great games against talented opposition, most notably his monster 29 point (on 13-17 shooting!), 20 rebound effort against the Blazers earlier this month (pictured above).  Also noteworthy were his 31 point, 12 rebound outing against a veteran Spurs frontline in a loss on January 24th and the near 20-20 (23 and 19) that he dropped vs the Thunder on GSOM Night 10.  Putting forth a more consistent scoring effort and improving on the defensive end will allow Lee to take his game to another level next year.

The clear outlier for David Lee's WW's.

Huh?

Sorry, I don’t get what you mean.

Ejdacanay had been joking since the Orlando game that Atma had been gifting David Lee Warrior Wonders all year long.

Yeah

But I gave Lee just as many as Atma did… I guess I just stumbled on an in-joke.

How many of those WW’s do you guys think he didn’t deserve? I can see how that Orlando one might have looked a little strange, but there is nothing wrong with giving props to a player for giving a good defensive effort, especially when that player hardly ever puts up a good defensive effort.

He went from playing in a totally inflated system to a…totally inflated system. I hope that explains most of it.

Other than that, he did play in a pretty crappy backcourt last year to a decent one this year…i’m curious as to how his AST% was affected by it.

Lee didn't deserve at least 1 of those

2 or 3 were crapshoots. WW has been a wash lately anyways.

True that.

And a lot are really biased based anyway, or thrown in to promote controversy (aka “discussion/hits”) so who really cares.

If you're going to talk about players not deserving it ...

… then Monta’s going to lead that category. There were several games where Monta had a mediocre game – requiring far too many shots to get his points – where Curry and Lee were scoring fantasticaly, but had a lower total number of points because they didn’t get the shots.

A couple of this griped about this as it happens. WW has a very high correlation with leading scorer.

Haha
WW has a very high correlation with leading scorer.

This is probably very true. Though I tried to do my part to break the cycle by giving it to Udoh on a night he only scored 6. ;-)

Actually, I probably did give Udoh the WW that day, too. ha ha

I like how J-Rich got one. It’s kinda funny that Jeremy Lin got one, too.

The playoffs are coming! I'm so excited to see who we're going to draft in the... uh.. playoffs.

When did Lee get 1/2 a WW?

And for what? That is odd
