2011 NBA Draft Update
The Draft's coming up and a lot has changed since a month ago. A few players (i.e. Terrence Jones) have taken their name out, while others (i.e. Kenneth Faried, Kawhi Leonard) have been climbing up the boards. This will be one of the weakest drafts in years, so it'd be realistic to take the best talent available over than what we need. So, with that in mind, who would you take in this years draft?
Here's my list of who I'd like us to take.
1. Bismack Biyombo - I really like this guy and his 7'7 wingspan and blocking ability. He's got a lot of potential, but my only problem is that he's only 6'9 and raw offensiveley. But none the less, I'd definitely take him if he's available.
2. Jonas Valanciunas - I am also high on this kid. At 6'10 he's got good size and a lot of upside. He's a good offensive rebounder and has some solid post moves. My one concern is that he's very unathletic and a terrible jumper. Getting him at 11 though would be a steal.
3. Kawhi Leonard - Kawhi is one of the best prospects in this year's draft and could have an immediate impact on any team. He plays defense and rebounds, but I've heard his shot needs work.
4. Alec Burks - A 6'6 shooting guard that rebounds, plays mediocre defense, and can score is hard to come by in this league even as bad as that sounds. He could give us a good-sized (for lack of a better word) backcourt and make Ellis expendable.
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

What is he good at then?
Clippers own staples center!!!
Oops forgot to write that, he rebounds and has some post moves

don’t count on Alex Burks being a good defender in this league…. And for that… I’d pass.
And for the record… Monte Ellis is already expendable….
I wrote mediocre defender, I doubt he’ll be good. No, Monta isn’t expendable. Larry Riley plans to keep Curry and Ellis and move forward with them.

I'm hoping and praying we can either get lucky and pick top 2-3
or make a deal to trade up. I feel that Kanter can really be a nice addition.

I left out the possibility of a top 3 pick because it’s very unlikely, but if we did I would either take Williams or Kanter (depending if it’s 2 or 3). I like Kanter, but the fact that he hasnt played in over a year worries me about what kind of shape he’s in and if he’s NBA ready.

well i hope riley does the right thing
the dubs need help at C through the draft barring the chances of getting a top 3 pick, i like the idea of making a move for DGranger because although he is a SF he can definitely shooting guard, who to give up though? beans and curry? or just ellis? rather find centers in free agency
heres a trade option.. though im not a fan of trading in the division...
maybe we can get a 3rd team involved..http://bleacherreport.com/articles/698290-golden-state-warriors-need-to-throw-the-house-at-andrew-bynum

We need to throw everything at this guy, huh? The dude is too injury prone, and what do we have that the Lakers want other than Curry and Dorell? Of course, if we give those two away, our team SUCKS. Then, we get to enjoy them sucking even harder whenever Bynum is sitting due to his bad knee.

No To All Projects
Whomeer we draft needs to be able to contribe immediately. We have had enough failed projects and don’t need ot waste any more first round picks on maybes. This is what the second round is for. Let others gamble their first round pick while we bet on a sure thing even if the upside is lower..

How about Donatas-Motiejunas? He looks pretty talented and is only 20.

Never mind. He gets 3.2 boards per 40 min.’s. That guy is a worse rebounded than Bargnani.

3.2? I don’t think any 7 footer is THAT bad. It says 9 down the page, under top 25s.

If the W's don't win the lottery
I vote for Klay Thompson
http://www.nbadraftblog.com/2011-articles/january/scouting-report-klay-thompson.html
I think he will be a good pro with a complete game and add some much needed size to the back court. He has a high basket ball IQ to help set up other players or create for himself with the ball in his hands and the ability to spot up for a shot off penetration or a post up.
He gives effort on the defensive end and I think a Curry/Thompson with Ellis as a 6th man would be one of the best back court rotations in the not too distant future.

actually i read your link..
i think he will get picked up after our pick but who knows.. he may turn out to be a good player! he has the size we need at the 2 spot…. would be nice.. and a excellent shooter would be sweet for curry to dish to…. at 6’6 that is sounding really nice..

Who's #1?
Not a big college basketball follower, but i’m generally always aware of who should go #1 or #2. And this year I don’t have a clue - tells me that there’s no Derrick Rose, John Wall, LeBron James, Blake Griffin in this years draft.
Reminds me of the year we “lucked out” and jumped to #1 and the best player was Joe Smith.
I feel it coming again this year…
According to ESPN’s draft machine, either Kyrie Irving or Derrick Williams could go first. Enes Kanter or Brandan Knight will likely be third.

BRANDON!
why do people have so much trouble with that name? Arghhhhhhh.

Jimmer!
can you imagine a 3 guard rotation of Jimmer, Steph and Monta!? ; )
well
we had rotations with CJ, Curry, and Ellis, so we weren’t that far from this.

yes
but that team wasnt good, so why would we try it again
CJ was a good defender at least.

I don’t know why everyone’s so down on Jimmer. I’m thinking he’s a slower, worse passing, worse defense Curry.

1. Biyombo
2. Valanciunas
3. Leonard
4. Burks
That’s basically my list too at this point, from everything I’ve read/seen. Maybe flip Biyombo and Valanciunas, just ‘cos I’m a sucker for upside? But I’d be pretty psyched with any of the four. Now watch us end up with the Jimmer…
There will be no extra point!
if we get Jimmer or Kemba, I will freak out!
I actually wouldn’t mind Brandon Knight, because he’ll be a stud and can play 1 or 2 legitimately. But man, if we get one of those other guys, I will flip out (and may tune out next year).

Semi realistic list at our pick but Leonard may be the only one available. JV is my hope and dream.
Biyombo would be nice, bu tould be another AR

Yes, you’re right I based this on many mocks. Some said Valanciunas, Burks, Biyombo, and Leonard would be picked ahead of us, while some didnt. I just put this together asking who you guys would take assuming everyone’s available.

I go to the gym at SDSU and I see Leonard shooting around from time to time. He’s a beast on the boards and plays aggressive ball but his shot is weak as hell. IMO He needs one more year in college to develop his game. But I’d be happy to have an Aztec in Golden State.
No doubt he would be at the top of my list
but I heard his shot does need a lot of work and I can’t stand perimeter players who cant knock down their shots.
