A Thought on the Small Backcourt

Stay connected for news and updates

Just thinking out loud here:

I've noticed a lot of "Monta 6th man" comments and posts recently. Honestly, I think these are wishful thinking. Ellis has been the starter for a long time, "produced" (definitely debatable, but a case could be made) at a high level, and given 100% effort for this franchise. If I were Monta, I wouldn't accept that reduced role.

Here is my idea:

It has been said that the good teams in this league often start a defensive 2 and bring an scorer off the bench (like Terry or Harden). Um, in my opinion, Monta, while a below average defender, probably doesn't hurt us very much when he is matched up with Thabo.

Basically, we might as well keep Monta the starter to satisfy his ego and either bring the defensive stopper off the bench or start him at the other wing.

What I'm saying here is that we don't need to take a gamble and sit Monta at the beginning when we can just start him and bring in a defensive 2 when Terry or Harden comes in. No "Monta could be the best sixth man in history" needed.

Problem is, we still need to acquire said perimeter stopper. And probably a defensive forward as well. Darn.

(Kawhi please!!!)
