A mock (1-11) showing why a center may fall to us and some photoshop pictures

OMG a non Monta topic ;)

I actually believe either Biyombo or Valanciunas will fall to us , not cause they have terrible stock now but because of the way the draft is starting to take shape. I'm just going to go team by team looking at who they may pick .

1. Cavaliers  : I think it's guaranteed neither Jonas or Bismack go 1st in the draft , this one I will leave short because it is so obvious. They will take Dwill or Kyrie Irving , most likely Irving

via nbaphotoshops.weebly.com

2. Timberwolves : Anything can happen with Minnesota but I think if this pick is traded it will be for Irving or Williams, if they use the pick I would not be surprised to see Biyombo or Jonas go here but I also doubt they pass up Williams if he is here. I think Williams is a lock at 2 no matter who picks here

¿Realmente tengo que jugar en Minnesota?

(I don't know how to resize a picture, sorry)

3. Jazz : There have been multiple rumors of them really liking Knight and Kemba Walker. And with the loss of Deron Williams and the acquisition of Derrick Favors and Al Jefferson I think it is unlikely they decide to go with a big and if they do it'd likely be Enes Kanter. Three is too high for Jonas or Biyombo

Knight_jazz_small_medium

4. Cavaliers : This is where we will start holding our breath, there have been rumors of the Cavs liking Jonas here at 4 but with Anderson Varejao recovering from injury I think they decide to fill a bigger need at SF with Jan Vesley. But I am not confident when saying that mainly cause they like Jonas more the Kanter in some reports . I think Leonard is also a plausible pick here. I do think however in the coming weeks that the Cavs come around on Kanter and take him based on potential alone. If that happens I see Vesley falling to 6 or 7 (him and Leonard can flip flop between the Kings and Wizards)

( Byyyaaaaaaahhhh!!!!)

5. Raptors : The Raptors have a large need at center but have been rumored to really like both Knight and Walker and are looking for a leader of sorts. With Knight gone many in the Raptors community think Kemba is the correct choice for them (in their opinion). They seem committed to Ed Davis and Bargs as well so maybe they don't touch their front court and go with a high scoring guard, so I say they end up taking Kemba Walker

Kembawalkerkings-copy1_medium

If the Raps don't pick him for a center  I see him in purple

via newallsports.com

6. Wizards : While the Wizards desperately need a SF with Kanter on the board I think they take him purely cause he's the BPA. They have a mid 1st rounder as well which they could use on a SF like Tobias Harris or Jordan Hamilton. Him and McGee would create a nice tandem going forward (Enes says he likes playing PF) whether they start together or sub in for each other at center. At 6 Kanter here is a no brainer

Enes_kanter_display_image_medium

via cdn.bleacherreport.net

7. Kings : Again, we see a team that has no need for either Jonas or Biyombo, they could use a PG or SF and with no PG's left and Leonard the best SF left it becomes a obvious choice.

Kawhi-leonard_medium

via ballb4all.files.wordpress.com

8. Pistons : Uh oh, a team that needs a big.... They could also use a pure point and SF but were all out of that at 8 . So either Biyombo or Jonas will likely get picked here, but wait a second. Tristan Thompson is still here, and he has had great workouts and the Pistons really like Ed Davis last year and Thompson is a fair comparison to him. But I also think Monroe is a better fit at PF and I think Detroit will go with one of the centers. But if Thompson does go here there would only be 2 teams ahead of us (Cats and Bucks) with Burks, Jonas and Biyombo all still on the board and only the Cats need a big so 1 out of those 3 may fall to us

Thompson_tristan487_381_medium

PICK ME!!!!

9. Cats : Picks 8 and 9 are going to be tense moments for us, if Detroit takes a center and the Cats decide to pass on Burks were totally screwed (Bucks would then take Burks) if were eyeing Jonas, Burks and Biyombo. If the Pistons take Thompson we are home free. The Cats are also fans of Alec Burks and may not let him slide at all (link below) , that'd be ideal if the Pistons take a center.

Burksbobcats_medium

via www.shrani.si

10.Bucks :  The Bucks need help at SF,  PF and SG, not center so at this point I can really care less who they pick unless its Burks. Just for the sake of keeping this mock moving I'll say they take Morris who can play now at both SF and PF and fits their defensive toughness that Skiles likes while also providing decent offensive production

11. Warriors : So here we are with Biyombo AND Jonas available , who do you take if your Larry Riley? Also I'd like to apologize by making you think about what it'd be like to be Larry Riley

I couldn't find any

I’m going to ask on the thread where I found most of these if they could make a Biyombo, Caron Butler, Tyson Chandler , Nene and Dwight one and see if they’ll do it :)

There is over 300 pages so I may have missed one of a Warrior though

If, in a weak draft, a big falls to #11, we ought not be terribly excited. I suspect we’ll get the BPA, and it won’t be a big.

Bismack Biyombo, Alec Burks, and Jonas available..

With the 11th pick in the 2011 NBA draft, the Golden State Warriors select…..Klay Thompson from Washington State University!

That is my worst case scenario

Which thus makes it the likely scenario…………….

Yeah I’m not sure what’s the fascination with Thompson. He shoots, that’s great, but I think there are other guys in the draft that would be a better choice.

Exactly

All he can do is shoot, literally. He has no other use , he is a really good shooter though

Biyumbo falling to us seems like a Catch-22 to me. If NBA teams were confident about his age/ability, he’d go higher. If he’s available to us, it’s because there are legitimate questions about him that scared off other teams. The only thing that’d make me comfortable about the situation is if we traded up to get him.

by Missing Barry on Jun 11, 2011 7:10 AM PDT up reply actions

That could be a good thing.

If those fears are unfounded, anyway. Sometimes you need to catch a break.

by Spider Jerusalem on Jun 11, 2011 12:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Exactly. if these guys are falling to us, there’s a reason. Quality big men go fast in a draft. In a weak draft at #11? I’m not holding my breath for real help in the middle.

by Naticus on Jun 11, 2011 2:24 PM PDT up reply actions

DraftExpress is adamant...

That Bismack will be taken by Milwaukee. I’d take him over Jonas or Burks, but it looks like the Warriors will get themselves a contributor even though this draft isn’t deep. Can’t be too unhappy about that!

by Missing Barry on Jun 11, 2011 7:12 AM PDT reply actions

Jonas sounds like a decent prospect based on what the draft sites are saying. I have no idea, but I’m just worried that if Biyumbo is available, there’s a reason for it, you know? Like, I very well might take Biyumbo over Jonas at #6 but Jonas over Biyumbo at #11, you know?

by Missing Barry on Jun 11, 2011 7:13 AM PDT reply actions

It could mean a few things if he falls

Age concerns are legit , 0 offense , foul issues etc

But I think the way the lottery is shaped up this year just by team needs he may fall. Only the Cavs, Cats and Pistons really scare me in that they could take them. 4 may be too high for Biyombo but and 9 are real possibilities . But again Thompson is rising fast and Burks may not get past the Cats

Yeah, I guess I’m just thinking if Jonas falls, it’s more likely to be because of team needs, if Biyombo falls, there’s a higher chance it’s because of age and offensive concerns….

by Missing Barry on Jun 11, 2011 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm really not sold on Biyumbo....

…. I mean, he’s a beast, but so raw. His only offense will be dunks, and he will shoot <40 from the line. Such a one dimensional player.

by warriorsablaze on Jun 11, 2011 11:58 AM PDT reply actions

It’s a fair point. On the other hand, at #11, do you really think our options of getting a multi-dimensional player are that good? And what if Biyombo is really, really good at the defense and rebounding part of things? Depending on his age, he may also have a lot of time to work on his overall game….

many variables impacting this draft make it more difficult to predict

With the uncertainty over the cap next year, we shouldn’t be surprised if there were fewer deals involving higher draft picks than usual and more deals than ever for higher 2nd round picks as teams try to grab talent at less expensive rates than the FA market.

In our case our pick possibly gets impacted by any Ellis trade, and most teams pick what they think is BPA rather than reach to fill needs, all of which makes predicting the draft pretty much a crapshoot after the first 2-3.

The Warriors' website is doing a mock draft thing where they interview people from each team's radio team/insider

And it ended up nearly identical to mine

They released the 10th pick today and have been doing it by a week by week thing I think.

DE said his upside is a 6’9 version of Dwight Howard? I know you shouldn’t read into the best/worst case scenarios, but is his defense going to be that good? His worst case scenario is Taj Gibson, whose also a very good defensive player. Seems to me this guy can play some defense. I’ll take him! If he’s there, some people fear that there’s a bad reason why and his age could be a factor. But at this point, we have an 11th pick and might as well go with it.

by DubsFan408 on Jun 11, 2011 4:02 PM PDT reply actions

You’re talking about Biyombo right? From all the reports I’ve seen, he definitely has Ben Wallace/Dwight Howard type potential on defense. Offense is another story, though – probably shouldn’t expect much of anything from him on that end. So….more like Ben Wallace potential!

What makes Biyombo so interesting, though, is his willingness to utilize his physical tools. He plays the game with incredible emotion (think Joakim Noah or Kevin Garnett), often putting opposing players and teammates in harm’s way with his desire to make his presence felt.

I guess so. ;)

by DubsFan408 on Jun 11, 2011 4:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Didn’t we just draft a 24 year old rookie 6th overall in what was considered to be a relatively “good” draft class? If Biyombo is under 24 years old, in what’s perceived to be a weak class, then he seems a bargain at #11 and I’d love to see him in a Warriors uniform. I think it will take him a season or two before his contributions are helpful. Most defensive specialist bigs seem to need some time before their contributions outweigh their deficiencies. Noah, Varejeo, both Wallaces (though one’s not a big), Foyle, etc. I’m ok with that. I doubt he averages 20 mpg. If he’s Adonal Foyle at the #11 spot in a weak draft, then he’s a bargain.

Are people guessing that he’s older than that?

by Uwe Blog on Jun 11, 2011 9:45 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

His bone tests suggest he's still a teen

17-19

I think on this team he could get 20 mpg if his defense is as good as it sounds. Blocks and rebounds will always help your team

I don’t think he wouldn’t help. It just seems like defensive specialist rookies don’t manage to get on the floor for long stretches. They get in foul trouble. It seems like it takes a while before the refs give them any calls.
