trade proposal that seems really intriguing @bleacherreport.com
Wesley Matthews and Gerald Wallace for Ekpe Udoh and Monta Ellis
Jonathan Ferrey/Getty Images
I haven't really heard of this trade anywhere so maybe it will catch on.
I am a big fan of Matthews, he has a great contract, and I think would be a great fit alongside Curry. Wallace has been rumored to the Warriors for years and might finally play in Golden State.
If the Warriors are going to lose Ellis I can't imagine getting a much better return than this one, and with Wallace coming on board I don't think we should be worried about how good Udoh "could" be. Even if we had to swap first round picks in this years draft, I love this trade for the Warriors.
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

what positions does Matthews play?
If he can play the 2 this could be a really good trade

I would hope we would be able to get back another big but they only really have Aldridge and Camby.
They aren’t gonna give that up and Camby has a 11 mil contract. Only way would be they would have to accept Biedrins as well. IF we cn sway them as well I’d be willing to throw in a pick too.
What about
Monta, Beans and a first round draft pick for wallace and matthews

Yeah I don't think they'll have much interest in Udoh...
I think Monta & Andre Miller would pair well together especially if Roy “retires”.
Not only that
but we want to keep udoh

you read my mind!
Udoh has way too much upside, much more than Randolph, if you ask me. I’d rather give the Blazers Beans and a 1st rounder along with Monta…good trade! Let’s do it and hope"Crash" doesn’t get injured!
We Believe!!!
i'm sorry
but to say udoh has more upside than randolph is just wrong. randolph is only 21 and is all upside. udoh is 24.
He's been in the league for three years now...
Sooner or later that upside is gonnna turn into potential that will never unleashed.
Holy Cr**
I never realized Ekpe is so old

since when did upside have to do with age when you're under 25?
so far, only thing Randolph has shown the league is he can easily get injured and this glimpses of extraordinary are just…glimpses. No consistency.
We Believe!!!
Of course I'd do that
who cares about Udoh he’s like 35 anyways.
but wouldnt your rather do
Beans and Ellis..mayb a first round pick

Intriguing offer
I’m really not a big Gerald Wallace. I like Wes MAtthews offense but he really isn’t much of a defender.
What if we can turn Gerald wallace into Josh Smith and then move David Lee, perhaps for Gortat + ChildresS (crappy contract)?
PHX would not move Gortat unless they get something better than Lee. I think they would try and package Lopez though.
True
But they wanna rid themselves of Childress’ poor contract. And Lee is a perfect fit in their system with Nash.
Childress’s season was strange. He shot poorly from beyond the arc where before he’d been acceptable, though he rarely took the shot. And he went from being perfectly respectable at the FT line into Shaq territory. I’d completely ignore the 3’s (he didn’t take enough for the sample to be meaningful) if it weren’t for the FTs. Since he still seemed to rebound his position well enough and didn’t seem to have any other aspect of his game fall completely apart, it’s just strange how the FTs went in the tank. Did he have a hand amputated or something when I wasn’t paying attention?
I don't really get it either
He’s an effective slasher, he shoots wel inside 15 feet, but beyond that, he rarely shoots outside of slashing straight to the rim. (http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?name=Josh+Childress). He was still efficient scorer (.565 fg%, .567 ts%)
You’d think with all the shooters they have, and with a PG like Nash they’d effectively use it (especially considering he’s a better defender than majority of their wings) but they did not.
But for whatever reason he found himself outside the rotation. Something I found puzzling considering how much they paid him
And while I don’t love his contract, he could be useful to us, and if you asked me David Lee v. Gortat/Childress. I’d rather have the phoenix duo
Well of course.
Gortat > Lee. Then you get rid of Lee’s albatross contract. I’d be fine with Childress contract because if he can shoot again, it’s a good deal.

I'm not a big Gerald Wallace fan, either.
He’s great at what he does, but similar to Wade, he plays recklessly, and once you start to get around 30 years old, your body begins to give up on you after all those years of crashing around. I think at this point, and especially for this team, I’d rather have Ekpe. We really need bigs. Trading a big away for a swingman would be devastating at this point.
If we draft Biyombo I can see doing this
Udoh is too much like Biyombo (although Udoh is clearly much better on offense) but if we can get Mismack then this trade makes sense.
Not that similar.
They can both protect the rim extremely well, but there are no other similarities to their game. Udoh actually has a jump shot from 15, that he looks like he’s close to hitting with respectable consistency. He may even look to add a turnaround off the shoulder, as he improves. His post game is much more polished, and he plays the game at a relaxed and heady pace.
Biyombo is a much greater rebounder than Ekpe Udoh, on both ends. He plays at break-neck speed and seeks his positioning under the rim. He’s constantly battling. I think Ekpe is much more conscientious of what’s going on with the offense (setting perimeter screens and such), and he’s not constantly looking to bang.
Should have been a fanshot
Especially when referencing Bleacher Report.
It smells like hope in this mug
This would be a fantastic trade
Did Portland hire a 9th grader for their new GM? We might be able to convince him.

Is there a heaven for a Rap Cat, let's talk
Rondo may be available in a trade
Here’s a crazy idea that might make sense to all teams:
1. Trade Rondo for Monta Ellis – Playoffs showed C’s lack youth and firepower, have Allen come off the bench (or play point).
2. Trade Curry for Bynum. LA has PG of the future who is a huge upgrade for them and takes scoring burden off Kobe. We have one of the best young centers in the league.
Then we draft the Klay kid to offset Rondo’s weak shooting.
Rondo, Klay, Wright, Lee, Bynum – pretty nice.
Celtics need help in post too
Maybe we can throw in Beidrins and take a bad contract off their hands who might help us out – delonte west? rasheed wallace?
by Togna Balogna on Jun 15, 2011 4:35 PM PDT up reply actions
oops, my bad
Not wallace – I meant the great troy murphy. could be a serviceable back up for Lee
by Togna Balogna on Jun 15, 2011 4:38 PM PDT up reply actions
Biedrins helping out in the post? I hope you mean defensively.
Trading for Troy Murphy? Do you realize we did that already this past season, and immediately bought him out??? He was an expiring this year as well, so is no longer officially signed with any team.
yaddayaddayadda
It could be whoever makes the salaries work, Troy, Delonte, whoever…
the point is Monta for Rondo and Curry and Beans for Bynum – sounds good, no?
by Togna Balogna on Jun 15, 2011 7:30 PM PDT up reply actions
How about Monta and Beans for Bynum, and we keep Curry?
by WestCoastWarrior on Jun 17, 2011 12:12 PM PDT up reply actions
also how are we going to afford
Rondo, Lee and Bynum?
it works because we are shedding Monta and Beidrins
I had to adjust things a bit.
Curry and Beidrins to Lakers for Bynum. Beidrins can back up Gasol.
Monta for Rondo and Delonte.
Then we draft Klay.
It really does work.
Rondo, Klay, Wright, Lee, Bynum.
backups of
Delonte, Reggie, Vlad, Amudson and Udoh (these likely to change of course)

Can we please stop living in fantasy land.
Yeah, all we have to do is trade Ellis and Curry for Bynum and Rondo…well, damn, that’s so simple why didin’t I think of that.

I got some advice for you... stop reading BR
even though I read this same article yesterday. Portland would NEVER do this trade.. they loose too much, they gave up first rounds picks to get Wallace, why would they trade him 6 months after trading for him?

How long did we have JCrawford before we traded him?
Teams make moves to make themselves better, it doesnt necessarily matter how long a player has played for your organization. Either way GWallace seems like a potential disaster on this team. Monta’s contract will probably only gain in trade value as time goes on. Hanging onto him for what appears to be a strike year may be the best option and a good investment.

So the Blazers hired David Kahn, huh?

Samurai Champloo > Macross
How is this better than..
Monta for Matthews and Batum?
Gerald Wallace is already getting past his prime, and is again, an undersized forward who often plays out of position. We don’t need that. Matthews and Batum are two big, long defensive minded players with great careers ahead of them. Both deals give up Monta, but we could save Ekpe because he’s basically our best defender.
Portlant loves Batum
If they wanted to trade Wallace, it’s to clear up space for him. If they traded Batum they’d likely use him to net a better player than Monta.
Like Batum, Andre Miller, Wes Matthews for CP3
or Batum, Wes, Oden for Dwight or even Nene
Take Udoh out. Then still no.

I liked the other trade on BR
Although I think it’s even more unrealistic:
Warriors get:
Wesley Johnson
Darko Milicic
2nd overall pick
Minnesota gets:
Monta Ellis
If it did happen, I wonder if the Warriors could then trade the 2nd pick and Biedrins to Cleveland for the 4th, Ramon Sessions, Christian Eyenga, and cash. This way the Cav’s ensure the rights to Kanter, and the Warriors can draft Biyombo while retaining the 11th overall, and adding depth behind Steph Curry.
Curry/Sessions/Lin
Williams/K. Thompson/Eyenga
Wright/W. Johnson
Lee/Udoh
Milicic/Biyombo/Tyler? (2nd rounder)
What could the Warriors afford in the FA market, even after all this? Can they afford Nene?
if you can get the #2 pick
theres no reason to trade down. just take derrick williams
Well, the reason would be to get deeper at the point guard position, while adding size. Williams may be the better choice, perhaps even taking Kanter for that matter. I just have a good feeling about Biyombo. I think he’s going to be an NBA starter.
i thought i read somewhere
that sessions was one of the worst defensive PGs in the nba. we don’t need to get worse defensively
He’s not one of the worst in the NBA. You’re thinking of his rookie season. Anyway, if you’re playing the zone defense, you don’t necessarily need your back up point guard to be a lock down defender. This is the beauty of the zone, and it’s why you strengthen your interior defense, first and foremost.
Secondly, Sessions knows how to run an offense, and he gets to the rim. It would be interesting to see how he and Curry play together for stretches, as Sessions can penetrate and is an excellent passer. He also just turned 25. Sounds like a pretty good back up to me… Or would you rather have Jeremy Lin?
If anything
I’d take D. Williams at two and then negotiate a trade with a lower team who really wants Wiliams. Convince them to draft Biyombo and then set up a deal that would send him here, along with more depth, or a future 1st rounder to cover up for that Marcus Williams mess.
Portland is pretty crazy if they do this trade
