Jeremy Tyler < or > Bismack Biyombo?

stats in japanhttp://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Jeremy-Tyler-1327/

Star-divide

Last year Detroit took Greg Monroe after we took Udoh. That bothered alot of ppl here on GSOM. This year (from reading Detroits blogs on Biyombo) they could easily go with the big defensive specialist. And that would leave us with an angle of revenge. By taking the next more well rounded big in Jeremy Tyler.  Tyler has the same size as Enes Kanter and was touted as one of the biggest names in high school until he made his decision to go overseas. He made some bad choices and learned some tough lessons.

Hindsight is 20/20  and we will never know who was worthy or not until these guys play a few years in the NBA. I really think this guy is going somewhere in the 10-20 range. worst case would be late 1st round..  Lacob and co. seem committted to winning next year and going for the 8th seed. Taking Tyler would seem like a awesome backup to Udoh for our center position!!   Udoh comes out and  then this huge man child steps in.....  I think getting a center is the most important long term issue on our team. More than the ellis debate even. Ellis can net us another guard in a trade later (if needed).

I know it seems like a reach , but, if  we took him, what do u guys think are the pros and cons to this?

btw,  his numbers in Japan league looked something like this per 36 mins.    21 points 14 rebounds but he seemed heavy on fouls and heavy on turnovers but given his age.. geez, this guy may still be growing..

After watching Biyombo's Euro workout on Utube.....

I am having faint feelings that Tyler might be a better pick even at #11 …IF we just HAD to have a have big. A reach I know but Biyombo looked worse than AR….he is active but is he smart..can he learn the NBA game or is he just a bounce around guy like AR with no IQ? Would he be better than Tyler? Who knows.

by Only In Fairfax on Jun 16, 2011 11:38 AM PDT up reply actions

never let the workouts sway your decision. I think watching the games are a lot more important.

Good point but.....

I have watched everything out there on Biyombo and although he looks like a aethletic freak ,which is a good thing…He seems to have bad hands and although his motions look ok he just cant do anything on offense other than dunk and I am talking chairs for defense. I wonder if he will even be able to hold onto a ball in the NBA if he gets a rebound?

He has the physical tools just like AR and does have an intense facial expression down pat but I wonder…. if he is really 18/19 well then that explains alot but has anyone heard anything about his BBall IQ?

by Only In Fairfax on Jun 16, 2011 8:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Biyombo > Tyler
if he is really 18/19 well then that explains alot but has anyone heard anything about his BBall IQ?

I read that they did some medical tests on his bones to find out for sure exactly how old he was. The results came back and confirmed that he’s either 18-19, can’t remember which. He’s just raw and unexperienced. He has the tools to be one of the best defensive bigs in the league, and one of the better rebounders.

I think Biyombo’s chances of reaching his potential look better than Tyler’s. Read here:

Tyler

Doesn’t play very hard, and it’s not rare for him not to run back on defense and his team to give up a basket or an offensive rebound … Needs to develop focus, consistentcy and discipline … Struggled mightily with fouls when he was playing in Japan this past season, and wasn’t much better in Israel either … Displays a low basketball IQ and raw decision-making skills, and he’s pretty turnover prone … Doesn’t really like to pass the ball…There are legit questions about his maturity and character … Quit the team when he was playing in Israel, didn’t adjust to the style of play, had trouble earning playing time over other talented players on the teams roster, and complained about playing time … Struggles with the thought that other players are also as talented as he is. Has been somewhat dilusional about his own ability but seems to have received a wake up call of sorts …

Anthony Randolph’s name resonates….

Bismack

Runs the floor very fast. Plays with a high motor, brings energy to the team defensively… Appears to be a quick study, developing his skill level to the point where it is … considered a high character kid by all accounts…Shows a mature, positive attitude. Speaks English well

i read somewhere BB he has been playing basketball since he was 9 years old

and pro since he was 14. and he is still this raw offensively?? i think there are some questions about his history unexplained.. when did he REALLY start playin ball..

on tyler.. wow .. umm not sure how to reply lol.. but , im sure someone could write about bismack and make him sound bad too.. im just assuming here but i think in 3 years Tyler is going to be somebody….

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Jun 16, 2011 11:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Thx lilboots.

I now feel better again about Biyombo..I think. But what about Tristan Thompson/ Chris Singleton campared to Biyombo?

Since Biyombo’s stock has fallen enough for the possibility for the W’s to grab him it is very tantilizing …I want to believe! But have memories of so many over hyped African players bombing out.

Good thing though is that Biyombo will bring that future(star) AR/BW delayed gratification type hope that can last for several years before we know if he will work out. Nice for moral and who knows perhaps the third time will be the charm?

Picking him certainly does fit the owners “go for it” mentality.

by Only In Fairfax on Jun 17, 2011 10:37 AM PDT up reply actions

And yes Tyler seems to have even more ? marks.

And that low BBall IQ comment was something that I had missed. The other stuff I had discounted due to his age.

by Only In Fairfax on Jun 17, 2011 10:39 AM PDT up reply actions

Good thing though is that Biyombo will bring that future(star) AR/BW delayed gratification type hope that can last for several years before we know if he will work out.

Randolph’s opinion of himself as a player is skewed. He’s developing a perimeter game, when he should be using his athleticism, agility, and competitiveness in the paint. He destroyed what hopes fans had in him, because he failed to discover his game in a convincing and timely fashion.

When you think that you’re better than you are, you sleep on that agenda of someday being recognized as a superior player in the league, while you sit on your skills and rely on them to dictate where the chips fall. Then it just passes you by.

Brandan’s case is more complicated, but he seemed to lack the focus and drive you need when you haven’t yet proved that you’ve earned a place in the league.

Biyombo will be different because he doesn’t exploit his game by playing out of himself, and he looks like he possesses the focus to keep his approach to the game intact – Enough so to earn his contributions notice sooner, rather than later. The opposite can be said in the case of an Anthony Randolph or even Brandan Wright, for that matter.

As much as we like Bismack Biyombo, I have a difficult time imagining Jerry West being very excited about him. The case could very well be contrary, but it seems BB lacks the skill and versatility (being strictly a defensive player) that West covets in a prospect.

I would also doubt that West has traveled east and actually seen with his own eyes, these European prospects in action. Again, I could be very wrong. Maybe he has. If not, I can’t imagine him placing the available Euro’s over guys like Marcus Morris and Klay Thompson (Both very skilled and versatile NCAA players).

Didn’t Riley take in some action overseas recently?
I seem to remember an article a few months ago about Riley travelling all the time, getting ready to head overseas…

West will trust his vision of a player's future

and if he believes in that player he’ll take those risks that he believes are necessary. So his endorsement of Biyombo, if that’s how it turns out, would be a pretty big leap. What he sees in a player’s hoops i.q. is probably a big factor. My guess, if they pick Biyombo they intend to trade him for other picks or combine him with other assets to get picks and a player ready to contribute.

Anthony Randolph was not a wasted pick

After all, he had enough perceived value to land David Lee. And for at least part of the time he was here he provided entertainment to a sizable and rabid fan base. That’s not too shabby from a #14 pick.

we didnt give lee such a monster contract.. lee woulb be tradeable but now he is one of our most UNtradeable contracts

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Jun 17, 2011 9:33 AM PDT up reply actions

ya, in hind sight i would WAY rather have never traded AR and kept all that david lee money

and have smart play AR all season long (with udoh backing him up) and test him to seee what he really has/had. now we would have plenty of money on the books for a good big guy, a tradeable asset in AR (udoh backing him up) . and if AR wasnt as good as lee then we would be picking 6 or 7th this year.. (and just miss kanter LOL)

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Jun 17, 2011 3:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Lee needs a center

He needs someone with size and skill to take the pressure and focus away from him in the paint. When that happens, he’ll be able to impact the game easier and put up numbers. Then his stock should rise. He’s not the kind of specimen who can do it on his own down there. He’s an extremely complementary asset to a guy who scores under the rim and changes shots.

by lilboots on Jun 17, 2011 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions

but AR would have played the 4 with udoh at the 5...

and maybe just maybe AR would have developed a little and increase his value.. plus we would have a ton of money on the books with lee not being here.. oh well its kinda moot point anyway now…

I am not sure it was so much the money as the shortcut that choice was perceived by him to be vs paying his dues in college. If you can call playing one year in college paying your dues. Jeremy seams to be the polar opposite of a person like Bismack who has taken the most advantage of the opportunities presented to him. Jeremy is very likely to self destruct after signing a million dollar contract. Also he shoots less that 50% free throws. So I doubt he has much undiscovered talent.

Biyombo = Joel Anthony (heat) Tyler = Kwame Brown (bobcats)

I don’t see any future stars in these guys, but they could be serviceable..or just plain busts. I wouldn’t gamble with Tyler unless it was a late first round or second round pick.

With this draft you really have to do your homework..it’s like drafting in the second round. Honestly I don’t know who yet..but I don’t think Golden State needs more tweeners or deficient defenders.

by tenkaistar on Jun 17, 2011 11:29 AM PDT up reply actions

Unless your homework is sure to unearth a hidden gold nugget, this is the year of all years to not take a chance by picking someone out of order. The FO is clearly looking for impact players NOW! The Warrior’s most desperate need is for a starting center. What does anyone really expect with an 11th pick in a weak draft?? And with the lockout there will be no summer camp and probably a delayed season making it even more unlikely that a rookie will make an impact.. I know it would be completely out of character for the Warriors, but this is the year to take the obvious choice and stop being a farm team for the rest the league by developing prospects. Pick anyone at our position that is thought to have dropped or the BPA. So I say draft BPA, hype him up and use him in a trade for a center or at least an impact bench player. The lock out will give the team more time to do this.

by KillaContract on Jun 17, 2011 2:58 PM PDT up reply actions

well, nothing is for sure , that is one thing that is for sure.. Tyler is a true center with a developing outside shot

dunks are already easy for him… he fouls alot but at least he is trying .. giving the fact that we are not going to realistically make a run for the championship for a minimum of two more years (barring some miracle moves or trades) buys us plenty of time for Tyler to turn into a beast who is big enough to be presence in the paint with udoh at the 4….

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Jun 17, 2011 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions

My argument was not how good Tyler is or may be. It does not really matter to us, if they flip him in a trade. In that case his perceived value is all that matters. Tyler’s perceived value around the NBA is low. So what if Tyler can beat out Biedrins, who couldn’t? But if we can use this pick to help bring in a legit NBA center then, I like that option better (at least in the near term).

Jeremy Tyler for SURE.

I dont like biyombo at all, i think the success of serge ibaka has made everyone feel like they cant pass on the next one. But that is a mistake, there are plenty of great athletes that dont amount to anything in the NBA. This reminds of how Nowitzki’s success lead to the drafting of darko and nikolai tskizavili as if they are just as good. I think tyler is a player with great upside, remember he was competing with real professionals when he should be destroying weak as college basketball freshman. With proper teaching of post moves and PATIENCE since it takes longer for big men to develop, he could be a real player drafted at 11. This draft is pretty weak definitely worth the flyer on tyler.

thank you... i agree and its been said many times on this sight that big men need alot of time

to develope into thier own.. and if he was putting up decent numbers in japan specially as the season started winding down he started hitting another level.. and if u seen the video of the competition in japan the guys arent total slouches they are grown men playing for alot of money. in a couple more years this guy could be dangerous and if we dont get him i hope he falls in the east

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Jun 17, 2011 9:42 AM PDT up reply actions

I don’t think people want Biyombo just because of Ibaka. It’s because he’s an athletic freak who can pretty much be the wall of defense this team so desperately needs. This website has talked about defense A LOT this past season, so it’s something a lot of us value. I don’t think Tyler has the defensive upside Biyombo has.

And Biyombo played in what is considered the second best basketball league in the world. He and Tyler both played against real professionals. I don’t see why you only talk about Tyler playing against real professionals.

mark jackson and a awesome supportive staff to motivate and educate him… the boy learned some good lessons.. i think he will prove his nay sayers wrong… i sure hope we can snag him later in draft somehow but he will be gone way b4 our 44th pick

i think he was explaining his apparent flop in the isreali league... he really shoulda been in high school still

and i totally agree that Tyler wont have the defensive prowess of a BB . i love defense its lower scoring bball but way more satisfying when ur team plays a complete game.. i would love to win 91 -85 type games when our defense shuts them down when it counts.. and yet we still have the offense to make important shots.. Tyler has wayyy more offfensive upside than BB but still has a big enough body and long arms to be a severe presence in the paint

Something tells me that….
A. BB will go earlier than #11.
B. He he declines to workout for the W’s on this US tour of his then no chance the W’s will take him.
C. If BB’s workouts go as bad as Eurocamp he could fall to the 2nd half of the first round.

Prediction….In the 2011 NBA Draft the W’s take………Tristan Thompson or Marcus Morris or Chris Singleton……you heard it here first. ;-)

Wasn’t there someone (was it Curry?) who didn’t workout for the Warriors, but he was still picked anyways? And I hope his workouts suck so that we can get him.

ya, maybe its smoke and mirrors again for us lol... i just hope somebody intriguing falls to us

or we make some sort of deal on draft day… .. if jimmer goes early that could be huge in meaning that someone diff falls to us that we arent expecting… like leonard or something..

AND Only in Fairfax ~ lol nice prediction of 3 diff ppl now narrow it to one and i will be super impressed.. haha its just soooooo much of a crap shoot… even the pro scouts get this crap wrong .. hurry up thursday!!!!!

Greg Monroe Last Year, Biyombo This year

ah the regret plus we would have more wins so we wouldnt be reaching for biyombo at 11

Biyombo not invited to green room?

did anyone else here about that? kinda suspicious, i don’t know what to make of it. has his vale really dropped off that much?

is our room the green room?

im tad pessimistic with his offensive , dribbling , and passing deficeinceis(sp) but i can get behind him if that is who we picked… but im still thinkn Tyler is the better of the two in 5 years

I really hope he's gone by 11.

I dont want him he will fail epically here. we dont have a center that can score then we add a horrible offensive power forward no low post offense good luck.

but we still need another big.. which is my whole Tyler movement.. oh well if he drops to 44 then yay

but he will be gone before the end of the 1st…

btw, BB and Tyler are both centers.. i see them listed as power forwards sometimes too but i think they would be exclusive to the 5 spot… BB would be a role player at best.. while Tyler could be total bust or a well rounded solid center..
