Jonas Valančiūnas. Heard he is very good, thoughts? He may not be there at 11 but how good can he be and how would he fit in Golden State?

my thought is he could eventually be what we were all hoping Biedrins could be
but even better than that

hmmm
He’s unlike any Euro I’ve ever seen. He’s long (7-foot with a 7-1½ wingspan), has great lateral quickness, is an explosive leaper with a 34½ inch vertical jump (Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony each have a 33-inch verticals, by way of comparison) and … drum roll please … Biedrins prefers to play in the paint, where most 7-footers belong.

He has lost a step, but he’s definitely quicker/more athletic than most centers. That’s not his problem….
he's not quicker anymore
NBA has taken a toll on him

I'm not sure about that
Run down the starting centers in the NBA. He’s still in the top half in terms of quickness. Gasol, Perkins, Anthony, Pryzbilla etc. Yeah he’s no Howard or even Horford, McGee, Jordan but he’s still above average.
The problem is, their was a time when he was top 2-3 in terms of quickness and explosiveness. Now he’s closer to middle of pack but hasn’t gotten stronger…. or more skilled. So essentially the advantage he had is gone against majority of the league.
Now add the fact he’s lost his aggression, you got major problems.
re-watch some Biedrins highlights on Youtube from a couple years ago
dude used to be an athlete and pretty damn explosive for a 6’11" white dude. No less impressive than this Jonas video, and perhaps even more so as he’s doing similar things against NBA talent, not nameless Euros.

Yeah, thats why Jonas got the "Biedrins with a shot" comparison
He’s a 90% free throw shooter. Even if he is never a spot up shooteR (why do you really need your center to be?) his ability at the line is a weapon because he won’t shy away from contact and get even more easy buckets than Andris used to get.
Thats why he also gets ‘pau gasol potential’ comparisons. If he develops his post moves that is…
Even if he is never a spot up shooteR (why do you really need your center to be?)
Sorry, I prefer Channing Frye over Dwight Howard.

If we were to draft him, would he come over right away, or would he stay in Europe for a year or two?

these are highlights from a basketball career against players that are not even on Biedrins talent level.
This would be just like drafting Biedrins again. Which is an average pick at 11 being that he won’t be paid nearly as much as Biedrins, but the Warriors are moving forward

I DO NOT want this guy
Early in the clip he tries to back down a defender much smaller and then misses a short jump hook. He rebounds and dunks it, but the fact is that plays like that will be non-existent for him in the NBA. Second concern is that it takes him some time to gather himself before going up to dunk on a couple of clips. NBA bigs are gonna feast on him inside.
He does not strike me as someone who is going to make guys think twice about coming down the lane. In fact, I can see him being a victim in the December edition of Slam Magazine’s Slamadamonth!
I’d much rather take Biyombo.
"That was very funny about the old man basketball skills. One is lucky to escape injury when playing against those crafty, crusty sumbitches. And it’s just demoralizing when they demonstrate yet again how to use the backboard from range." - Charlie Custer

He's very athletic for his height. But he reminds me of beans but more athletic when he was younger.

yeah but he shoots 90% from free throw line
If we get a good free throw shooting Biedrins…. um I’d take that at 11. Free throws alone might make him an efficient 15/11 guy
He is a project
Valuncianus got destroyed by Kanter. He is going to get abused in the NBA until he puts on weight. However, they say he has a great frame and will be able to put on weight without losing much in terms of speed and athleticism. They also say he has a great attitude and will work as hard as it takes to succeed.
I would be angry if we drafted him over Biyombo or Burks. However, I like him over Klay Thompson, Marcus Morris, and Markieff.
Valuncianus got destroyed by Kanter.
The first time when he was 16?
They matched up several times. According to DX:
All Valanciunas has done since is continue to improve steadily every time we’ve seen him. There he was in the U-18 European Championships in Metz in the summer of 2009, going up against arch-rival Enes Kanter in a pair of epic matchups that frequently get mentioned by NBA scouts as pivotal moments in their evaluations. 19.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, on 72% FG and 79% FT were the final tallies in France.

This video makes me miss the REAL Biedrins.
Come on Beans, quit being a bitch about your free throws and be good again.
I think its a lot more then just being a b*tch about free throws.
the dude has checked out, who knows what’s wrong with him. I hope he can have a bounce back year but I wouldn’t count on it.

Agreed
I’ve gone from “I HATE YOU ANDRIS” trade him for a can of peas to just pity/hope he turns it around.
We’re not gonna get anything for him. Might as well hope, whatever is bugging him goes away.
I’m on the, “buy him out of his contact” movement. There’s some good centers available this summer and if we watch the window close. good luck ever getting one.
Or better yet, buy out Bell and Amundonson and we’d get an additional 6.4 Million off the books for next year. Add that to what we already have and we’re in business.
All a buyout does is open up a roster spot. And make the player a free agent. The original salary still counts against the cap for the length of the contract.
And Charlie Bell finally has some value… his expiring contract is much better trade bait than his contributions on the court are.
