Yeah, i think we gotta just get a decent player and maybe a pick.

He doesn’t have much value contrary to reports.

@probballdraft

is not exactly the world’s most credible source. so, combine his/her “report” with the “report” that the W’s phone lines are ringing non-stop about Monta, and the “report” that the Warriors aren’t shopping Monta, and I think we can safely say there’s no real news to report.

C'mon.

I know you are a big Monta fan (maybe thats an understatement) but all the real reports not coming out of Philly in the last 2 years suggest:
A) Monta is not valued highly amongst NBA GM’s
B) We aren’t getting fair value if we believe Monta’s a good player
C) That we would be getting something back that makes sense for an overpaid, defensively challenged player

But this is what I know; never trust Kawakami.

bradyk2’s point is this: we really don’t know jack. Nothing has been corroborated, and I don’t think there’s any such thing out there as a “real report”. Everything you read is a quote from a team’s brass, an agent, or a sportswriter, and none of them are trustworthy sources.

I think it's pretty rare -

- that there’s this much smoke but no fire.

And we certainly have comments on the record from Jerry West which suggest that the team wants to move him.

Honestly, this tweet makes more sense than some of the claims – that the Warriors might expect to get back Igoudala + something valuable for Monta.

by Ronaldinho on Jun 17, 2011 11:12 AM PDT up reply actions

Oh yeah, I don’t doubt for a sec that they want to move him. As soon as Jerry West was hired, the whole vibe on Monta somehow changed, despite what they’ve been saying publicly as of late. And I agree, these tweets are more in line with what most of us see as reality — that’s why I posted them.

I would take any two first rounder picks for next year for Monta. I think that would be a complete steal for us. If for this year, I’d rather wait for Philadelphia to give us Iggy.

by Prince.Charming on Jun 17, 2011 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Agreed.

This is the wrong draft to stock up on first round picks in.

by Ronaldinho on Jun 17, 2011 2:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes, I would.

Korver is a player who made a very very good team very slightly worse when he was on the floor this year. It appears that last year he made a team much better than us substantially better, in a limited role.

Compare that to Monta who made a bad team worse both of the last two years.

Bogans is basically just contract filler.

Am I excited by those players? No. But I consider removing Monta to be addition by subtraction at this point (remember: defense counts!) and Korver would be a clear net positive for us. I would much rather have Igoudala, but I don’t know that he’s available.

by Ronaldinho on Jun 17, 2011 12:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Well Korver's defense...

But offensively, sure, better fit.

I'd rather have Bogans than Korver..

Korver is as one dimensional as they come. He’s like Morrow except he’s worse on defense and can’t score inside at all.

point is, that trade is god awful and I would have to take a crap on Lacob’s door step if he pulled something like that.

by SDtotheBay on Jun 17, 2011 12:59 PM PDT up reply actions

There is no way Korver is worse on defense than Morrow. Morrow is pretty bad at that end.

I'm the soul brotha' like no other!

by Naticus on Jun 17, 2011 1:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Somebody doesn't have to be particularly good at defense to be a huge upgrade from Monta in that department.

This year, he made a truly excellent defensive team a little bit worse when he was on the court, defensively. Last year, he made a slightly-above-average defensive team a lot better defensively when he was on the court. The year before that, he did the same thing on a slightly below-average defensive team.

I’m not convinced that any of us are particularly good at recognizing non-flashy wing defense when we see it. But what evidence we have strongly suggests that Korver is not, in fact, worse than Morrow at defense. And he’s certainly a lot better than Monta at it, which is the real relevant comparison.

by Ronaldinho on Jun 17, 2011 1:02 PM PDT up reply actions

it's really naive to believe the dubs front office PR at this point.

from yesterday

Ryan (Los Angeles) What will the warriors do in the draft? Will they draft thompson/burks or if Biyombo falls to them, do they pull the trigger? Also, any chance on Monta for the #2?

Chad Ford (1:26 PM) I think they’ve been hoping Klay Thompson is there and could be a replacement for Monta Ellis — who is clearly available right now. If Thompson is off the board, Alec Burks, Bismack Biyombo, Marcus Morris and Chris Singleton are all possibilities. As far as Monta for 2 … I think the Wolves have interest … but Warriors would probably have to give up No. 11 too to get him.basically every report outside of the organization’s front office dealings with the media has indicated that they are fielding calls. Ric Bucher, Ken Berger, MT2, TK, the beat writer in Portland, etc.,. well i shouldn’t say everyone in the FO, Jerry West’s comments are pretty obvious. this is the same guy who couldn’t keep his love for Kobe or Rudy Gay a secret. he’s just lucky the Nets believed Kobe’s threat of playing in Europe and that Houston was amiable to a trade to get Battier.

there’s too much smoke from too many different locations. Monta’s probably available and his camp is likely involved, but unlikely to be traded.

No real way of knowing, but this sounds a bit more credible to me than earlier scuttlebutt of “Warriors holding out for Iguodala plus the #14 pick plus Thad Young plus Cliff Lee plus Rocky Balboa plus the Liberty Bell.”

I’d still be very psyched with Monta + the #11 for Iguodala + #14. Indeed, if Biyombo slips to #11, I could totally see that happening. For a team that needs bigs as badly as the ‘6ers, Bismack’s a pretty sweet sweetener. Of course, it’d still leave us thin up front. But it’s not like Biyombo is ready to step in right away and solve our frontcourt issues; and it’s unlikely that Monta is ever going to fetch anything resembling a serviceable big man. And I still find it hard to believe the $3-4M difference in annual salary between Monta and Iguodala is going spell the difference between getting a Nene or a Jordan (or even a Howard!) and not getting one.

For fun…

PBH: Curry
Wings: Iguodala / DWright / Reggie / Klay or SIngleton (with the #14)
Bigs: Nene / Lee / Udoh / Amundson

I probably would too, but I still don’t see that as that particularly realistic. If we’re salivating at the idea of snagging DWilliams (or possibly Valanciunas) on a cheap rookie contract, why would Minnesota part with that for our overpaid, undersized combo guard? (I mean, why other than KAHHHHHHHNNNNNNNN).

by Sleepy Freud on Jun 17, 2011 11:45 AM PDT up reply actions

I haven’t exactly scouted Ricky Rubio, but this much is true: he’s 6’4" and reportedly a good defender. I wonder if he can defend 2-guards?… You see where I’m going with this?

Here’s something that Kahn is going to have to consider: if he takes DWilliams (I hate this nickname — there’s already a DWilliams!), he’s got a serious glut of SFs, and may have to move Beasley, who likely will not have much trade value. A pairing of Monta + Beasley, combined w/ the 11th pick, may be a lot better than a pairing of DWilliams + whoever they fetch for Beez.

I know, I know, it’s a stretch. One thing’s for certain: Minnesota’s gonna have a helluva lot more talent next year.

ya..

just wait till coaches set up their defensive game plan to stop Reggie… then you will see Monta is the superior offensive player. Get outta here with that stats crap. Reggie playing against second stringers and getting wide open looks has a better TS or a higher plus minus than Monta who is getting the attention of every starter on the other team. If you really think Reggie is better offensive player, you cleeeeearly have not watched many dubs games. But I will give reggie some credit, he was a deadly spot up shooter this year.

Reggie playing against second stringers and getting wide open looks has a better TS or a higher plus minus than Monta who is getting the attention of every starter on the other team.

Including at the end of last year when Monta was injured for a stretch and Reggie put up pretty damn similar numbers?

Hmm.

You know, I’d like somebody to point out to me what all this “attention” Monta gets looks like, on the floor, because I don’t see it.

I watch, say, Dallas play, and I see how the team has to work to get Dirk the ball, because teams are trying to deny him. I see how they throw a double team at him before he makes his move to force him to give it up.

Then I watch us, and I don’t see anything like that. I don’t see any attempt to deny Monta the ball. I don’t see any double-teaming except when the defense collapses on his drive … JUST LIKE THEY DO ON EVERY PLAYER WHO DRIVES.

So one of you guys who “watches the games” – please tell me, what, exactly, does all this so-called “attention” amount to?

Because quite frankly it sounds like another BS talking point to try to explain away Monta’s faults.

by Ronaldinho on Jun 18, 2011 12:10 PM PDT up reply actions

i think the fact that monta drives more than other players on the warriors

makes it seem like he gets double teamed a lot. he also gets double teamed a lot because the other team is hoping he will throw up some circus shot, and they know he’s probably not going to pass

Agreed. Well, he can play no D, but he’ll need to play some if this team wants to succeed. So far in his career he hasn’t been an impressive defender, but the results (in terms of plus-minus) haven’t been horrible, and the effort seems to be there. As has been pointed out here by many, he’s been significantly better at guarding PGs than Monta has been at guarding SGs.

yet in the eyes of most on this site he is the golden boy?

Meh, straw man. I’d say in the eyes of people who care about wins and losses, he’s been our most productive player (or least unproductive), he’s cheap, and he may still have a bit of upside. I don’t think very many here have illusions that he’s a budding superstar.

Given Jerry West’s comments on the importance of size (and replaceability of guys like Norm Nixon and Nick Van Exel), and reports by fairly reputable folk like Bucher and MTII, it seems much more credible to me that we’re the ones trying to drum up interest.

There will be no extra point!

Then everyone must party hard the night Monta is traded for a stud like Iguodala.

I’m not wild about Iguodala’s contract, but basically agreed.

Of course, I’ll believe it when I see it.

Lets put it this way

One bad contract doesn’t usually kill you. 3 bad contracts do. And we got 3 of those.

I find Monta’s the ‘least bad’ actually.

I wish we’d explore moving Lee but who wants him?….All I got is indiana. Maybe Posey and the #15?

If we’re gonna have three bad contracts, we might as well get as many wins out of them as possible. (This is a pro-Iguodala comment.)

That's why they keep coming

We should 100% believe the smiley faced PR of the Warriors. Don’t even consider listening to the many sources inside and outside the Bay Area that have reported these rumors. Joe Lacob, Larry Riley and Mark Jackson said they aren’t trading Ellis, so that means it’s true.

I think the Ellis for Iguodala deal would have already taken place, but...

management must be considering a better deal involving the draft. There might be a player that they really like or they would rather exchange Ellis’ contract with a rookie contract or both.

What we do know is either the media or management is lying. What each says are complete opposites. Media is now saying GSW is trying, yet struggling to move Ellis, while management says their supposed efforts to trade Ellis are “fabrications” and they are “not shopping Ellis”. Maybe the truth is somewhere in between. My best guess is that the trade proposals are being fabricated by the media but Ellis is still on the trade block. Just like two years ago, Ellis might have been on the trade block, but the “Ellis for Mayo and Thabeet” deal was never on the table (although Memphis would probably do that in a heartbeat now).

It’s possible, for example, that we’d have to sweeten the deal with our #11 pick … which we can’t do until after we turn that pick into a player.

My best guess is that the trade proposals are being fabricated by the media but Ellis is still on the trade block.

My best guess is that the team is actively listening to a lot of offers – and some of the rumored offers, but not all of them, are real – but they are either waiting ’til the draft or trying to shake something better loose from somebody, and would rather not make a deal than make a bad deal.

It's obvious that the front office is going to milk the clock as long as possible

They won’t pull a trigger on a deal before draft day and they won’t talk about Monta going elsewhere before draft day. They probably have a feeling that a lot of fans (many on this site) would go crazy and start crying if Monta were to be traded, and by saying they won’t, it keeps those people naive to the idea of trading Monta and keeps them calm until he is actually traded. When that time comes, they know they will be able to sell those fans on the trade because they believe everything the front office tells them. The objective is to keep the panic of major Ellis fans from getting too high and then reasoning it out after he is traded.

Here's a crazy prediction

If we get something better in return (in the eyes of the front office) then we will trade Monta, if we get offered too little, then we won’t. I doubt Warriors are adamant he will or will not be traded.
If we can get Rudy Gay I might be into the idea, or Batum and Wes Mathews. Otherwise I could see trading him for 2 seed. Other than that – not much else out there I want that would make a trade.

i wouldnt give him up for a 2 seeder.. noooo

but ya, we may wind up holding him . my opinion is turn him into a 6th man off the bench , he would be an expensive bench piece but not too long from now like beans we will become an expiring.. with potential to really help some team in a role type setting..

really?

trading for #2 would be a steal – a player extremely high upside and shedding the longterm contract.

i like monta a lot – and want to see the team play under Jackson before making big moves, but for the #2 pick – DONE!
