Jeremy Tyler's upside?
What do you think is Jeremy Tyler's ceiling? If everything goes right with this guy how good could he possibily become for us in the future?

The upside of an 80 HR power potential
with the ability to stop the run and shed blocks and average a quad-double in the league.
"I thought it was going in," Warriors center Chris Hunter said. "It looked like the invisible man tipped it away at the last second."
"He's chicken curry right now. He'll become beef curry a little later on."

Upside - Sam Perkins
Downside – Chris Washburn

I think he can be DeAndre Jordan
his floor is POB (just about any big man’s floor is POB)

I think the Jordan ceiling is accurate.
Same general lack of skill level/IQ but (somewhat) made up for with athletic ability.

Jordan was also a second round pick
and he’s even bigger (7’6" wingspan, 9’5.5" reach)
funny enough DX says his upside is Bynum and downside is…wait for it…POB!

i still don't get how he fell to the 2nd round
i wanted the warriors to take him at 14 that year
Major headcase. He had an awful, awful year at Texas A&M.
His numbers were ok, but he had a lot of maturity issues and ended up coming off the bench (despite being their most highly touted recruit in a while) and not playing very many minutes (relative to his talent).
I remember watching quite a few of his games (because he was so hyped) and really being disappointed in how much of a project he was, even at that level. The fact that he’s turned himself into a serviceable pro is pretty commendable, really.

He has all the tools to be great. I’ll admit I much rather have Mark Jackson mentoring him as a Head Coach than Budenholzer. But physically he has all the tools to be a allstar. Its about the heart and the mental.
He has ups and a 7’5 wingspan with a 9’2 standing reach with speed and agility especially for a guy 262. With those tools you should be optimistic aswell. Just gotta get him to use those tools.
for once i agree with you. haha.. very excited about what mark can do with this kid.

so far i've seen just fat loudmouth
i can only hope he’ll mature soon
Even if you do succeed most people wouldn't notice anyway.

Where have you seen this?
All the information about his “attitude” is mostly from 2009…most of the recent interviews have shown him to be more articulate and pretty grounded IMO. His body fat % wasn’t too far from Irving’s in the combine.

Ceiling? Amare Stodemire or Dwight Howard or Shawn Kemp
He is a big dude that could dunk on a 12 foot rim, depending if he has Amare’s knack for scooring or Dwight’s Knack for blocking shots. I mean really if we are talking upside a young man his size that moves like he does, and with him having that high of body fat he really is not in shape yet… Scary athletic ability and I am going to guess since he had his bubble burst hit with his failures in Israel as well as falling to the second round (plus having MJ “sell” you for cash) he should be motivated to work hard. From the film and how highly he was thought of before leaving for Israel he can be something special… Then again we said the same thing about Anthony Randolph he just hasn’t turned his ability into production.

you’d have to be able to jump higher than 12’ to dunk on a 12’ rim. and lots of big men can jump 12’. Darko Milicic can jump 12’. in the past very few combine #’s were available
he reminds me of a C version of Anthony Randolph in his clips from Japan. we’ll see if he has more of an IQ for the game.

DEF agree shawn kemp potential
thats really exciting but at the same time.. hes more likely gonna bust like all those other athletic big men with no skill or motivation.. very interested to see what jackson can do with him =]

Comes down to whether or not he's happy just to make the League, or if he wants to DESTROY the League.
I don’t think we’ll know for a while being that there isnt a summer league now.

there are two huge, unknown variables
with the young man, and as Nelson has tried to caution us before with guys who are 19 or 20, their brains haven’t completed their growth and development. a}what’s his capacity to focus, maintain disciplined work without getting quick gratification in the form of playing time ? (b) hoops i.q. and court vision ?
The brain trust needed to speak at length with Bob Hill, former n.b.a. coach who was his coach in Nippon, to get a preliminary notion about these aspects of intelligence and personality. The team’s facilities, trainers, coaches will all of course be off limits until there’s a labour agreement.
Music is the Healing Force of the Universe (a.ayler)
He has the same tools as Kanter and Cousins. And is the same age as both. If he wants it he can be a Allstar in the west 1 day. Its only a few good centers in the West as of now.
He has the same tools as Kanter and Cousins. And is the same age as both.
well except hand width. Tyler has some freakishly small hands 9" vs Cousins 10" and Kanter 10.75". btw, Kanter is actually a year younger than Tyler.
unless you’re physically elite like Lebron or Dwight, the most important tool is still the brain. which it looks like Cousins doesn’t have. we’ll see about Kanter and Tyler.
it’ll be interesting to see if he’s just another knucklehead like Anthony Randolph or Javale McGee or if he actually gets it like DeAndre Jordan or Kendrick Perkins and focusing on what should be his NBA skills which are rebounding, hustling, contesting shots, learning to play team defense and dunking.

Jordan isn't all that much better than McGee..
he’s so overrated here, no idea why you guys think he’s some smart, athletic player that “gets” it
i don't get why you always resort to a straw man argument making up stuff that nobody said.
where do i say he’s smart? i don’t even say he’s athletic — he’s actually long more than he’s athletic (9’5" standing reach, only a 27" vert w/ no step, 30" w/ 3 steps). but i don’t think you understand what “getting it” is.
he “gets it” b/c he doesn’t try to do things he can’t do. like shoot jumpers. he doesn’t run out there on offense like a chicken w/ his head cut off, chucking up jumpers or trying to dribble the ball or shoot every time he touches it like AR, Javale do and Tyler seems to do in Japan. once he figures out how to play team defense and what the defensive principles are, he should be fine.

too bad I didn’t say anything about your post, I said he’s overrated HERE and YOU GUYS has nothing to do with your post.
come on, don’t insult my intelligence. you replied to my post and included me by saying “you guys” b/c you assumed that i was inferring that DJ has a high bball IQ, which i wasn’t. you can either take my advice and stop assuming things or not. it’s no big deal either way, i’d just rather have conversations on here than what we usually get when people disagree.
by homer simpson on Jun 26, 2011 8:44 PM PDT up reply actions
oh lord, not your precious intelligence
my deepest apologies.
I don’t think there is a soul who thinks that Jordan is a smart player. He is very overrated here, though. I like him, but he is definitely more of the big, athletic guy who can rebound and block shots than the heady guy who makes plays for his teammates.

I wonder if the small hands are why...
…he turns the ball over so much in the post. Regarding his work ethic, I do think he’s demonstrated that by working hard to develop his jump shot.
POB must have worked to get a sky hook as well as hit jumpers, but that doesn’t mean much when it doesn’t go in… and a lot of his shots don’t go in. Udoh clearly has moves, but the ball rarely ever goes in.
watch this and tell me you still want to see dude taking jumpers in games

I'm skeptical
I read one analysis of his Japan league play that suggested he was below-average compared to other import players. The author of the analysis was optimistic, noting that Tyler improved dramatically in the latter part of the season. Still, his numbers for the season overall were disappointing.
I think he can be solid 5 that doesnt hurt his team
I don’t think he’ll be an all star. But if he can be dependable for defense, rebounding, put backs and 50% from within 6 feet. I’ll be happy. Assuming we continue to be a guard dependable offensive team.
