Monta For Iggy NBA article
More Monta for Iggy trade chatter. I think we need to hurry up and get Iggy for Monta while he can. An Curry/Iguodala backcourt would be great!

Yepp I agree. I would say top 2. I think Williams would be the guy to take and he wont be there at 3.
We should do Ellis and Lee (maybe something else as well) for Howard!!!!!!!! they would throw in Duhon or Q-RIch I guess to make the salary work.
That scenario is about as likely as us trading Jeremy Lin and Biedrins for Lebron.

Hey, but they do need a Center and a PG!
Let’s go West. Riley owes you a favor or two.

I’d rather get a top 3 pick and build our frontcourt, but if that’s not on the table I think Iggy does a lot to help us.

I’m much less into the idea of the #3 pick than the #2. Who would be looking at with #3? Kanter? Just doesn’t excite me that much…

agreed
im pretty convinced this is a 2 player draft
I could see Kanter being good. I could also see him sucking. Mostly, I see him as a huge question mark. Seems like a pretty huge and foolish risk to take to me to give up a chance to get a player like Iguodala to take a huge question mark like Kanter who could suck and we don’t know much about at all. The one argument I see in favor of that is if we can turn the additional cap space it gives us into something worthwhile.

If we get Iggy we get more wins this season
But in the long run we may be worse. Between his big contract and potentially declining game (certainly on offense) it could be a problem for us down the road.
All of this is contingent on Steph Curry.
If Curry can become the star many here think he can – shouldering the scoring load we lose (either through scoring himself or getting more assists) then it might all be fine.
It really surprised me to hear Bucher say that Monta could be a very good defensive player with the right coaching and guidance and that he has lots of room to improve. It also surprised me to hear him say that Curry may not get much better.
On the other hand, like most who watched Curry in each game the past two years, I saw moments of brilliance and stretches where he seemed to run the offense like a maestro. If our grown man Coach can get that out of him on a regular basis – Monta will be quickly forgotten.
Initially, I was a reluctant fan of the trade. Now I am just torn about it.
Also, why do people believe we can trade him for a top 2 or 3 pick in this year’s draft?
well i actually think
iggy is going to play even better than he did last past season. i think he will do well with us is because he will play with an up and coming pg. since steph is in his 3rd year, historically, players dramatically get better in their third year. If you have seen iggy and steph play for team USA, omg highlights galore and defense all the way.
look i love monta ellis. but hes a one man show, not really good for playoff basketball (atleast as a starter).
curry/iggy/dwright/lee/aquired FA center —-we’re looking at a decent playoff type team. defensively we got iggy/dwright/acquired FA center offensively we got curry/lee/rest of team.
stephen curry
The trade for a pick is a rumor, since Minny seems to be looking to get a veteran scorer.
by Uwe Blog on Jun 9, 2011 4:10 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions
Some writers speculated that Minny is interested in moving their pick, and we might be interested in moving Ellis, so it could potentially be a match. That’s generally how these kinds of rumors start! ;)

If Doug Collins (great coach) wants to get rid of Iggy then that should be telling us something right there, People complain about Monta and Lee being overpaid, well Iggy’s contract is pretty big and his play has been regressing the past two years. we aren’t going to be a playoff team with Iggy, this trade makes no sense to me. people just want Monta go so they’ll trade him for anything at this point. I’m not surprised some of you are excited about this trade, chances are if Philly was to give us a piece of toast for Monta, some of you would accept it cuz you want Ellis gone that bad. Lol

well doug collins
have had a tendency to like to bring younger players up. whenever he would go to a brand new team, it tends to be a young up and coming team. doug collins i would say is a great young developing coach.
and besides doug collins like to play favorites too, in my opinion.
iggy, besides, had a bad year due to injuries and a new coach. he genuinely seemed upset playing for the sixers.
stephen curry
Was he injured during the playoffs, cuz he played horrible.

He
was injured. Honestly he really shouldnt have been playing, he only did because they made the playoffs

I dont have
the direct source but I remember hearing he had a bad knee. Actually the 1st injury he every really had. He actually sat out games at the end of the year if i remember right. He actually was hurt a good part of the year as well as being frustrated in Phili. I think last year was a down year for him, I think a change in teams will help him greatly.

we aren’t going to be a playoff team with Iggy
I think playoffs are realistic. Dunno what our chances are exactly, but with some better coaching, having Biedrins is play better or play less minutes if he sucks, and adding Iguodala over Monta, that’s a pretty significant improvement right there. Mid 40 wins is very attainable with those things.
by Missing Barry on Jun 9, 2011 7:22 PM PDT up reply actions
I also don’t think Doug Collins is the driving force behind the “trade Iguodala” stuff. There’s been speculation and desire to move him out here for years now.

we should not trade monta. people need to realize that monta is a star on a losing time. when his team was winning he made it to the rookie/spoh game, won most improved and was a key part in the warriors winning season. he has proven he can finish games, hit the big shot and be a leader of his team. every time at oracle when his name is called during the introductions he is the one the crowd gets loudest for. the 3 straight wins aginst portland, dallas and la was because of monta brought with complimentary play from the team.
i’m a warriors fan and i’m all about winning so, maybe get monta and steph a true center before you try to break up this amazing duo. see how a full season plays out of steph monta dwright dlee and a legit center, then start making moves.
+1
I want to see what they can do with a Tyson Chandler type of guy at center before we make a trade, sadly that may not happen

Sigh. If Monta played like a star, we wouldn’t be a losing team. What really happened was our team performed worse when Monta played, and better when he didn’t. The whole “finishing games” stuff is almost entirely random variation, being a fan favorite doesn’t matter, and I’m skeptical anyone has any actual proof of a players “leadership” ability. Lastly, 3 good games are meaningless. Everyone has good games.

monta's not a star
star’s don’t play on 36 win teams. and when the warriors made the playoffs there were at least 3 guys more important on the team than him. if you’re really about winning as u claim, it should be very easy to understand that monta needs to be traded
star’s don’t play on 36 win teams
Eh, not entirely true
While some stars have played on slightly better teams they can’t be considered that much better. DWill in NJ , Pau in Memphis, Blake in LAC, Stat in NYK, Nash in PHX etc
While you can argue those teams may have been better we were not far off.
Also if Steph is the star many people here claim him to be or make him sound like wouldn’t that be contradicting to the statement?

You won't find a lot of the anti-Monta people on this board calling Steph an elite player.
Not yet, at least. ALthough some of us have hope that he can turn into one.
the only time most of us mention "elite" and "steph" in the same sentence
is if we’re talking about efficiency
people need to realize that monta is a star on a losing time.
Typo aside, I’m not sure what this means. Monta has been on losing teams for most of his career. These last two years, Monta’s play has been part of the reason his teams lost. Not the only reason, of course, but certainlyone of them.
when his team was winning he made it to the rookie/spoh game, won most improved and was a key part in the warriors winning season.
Monta was a much better offensive player when he was playing on the 48-win team than he was this last year, and that team was more capable of covering up his defensive deficiencies. Those two facts contributed to that team winning more than it lost.
maybe get monta and steph a true center before you try to break up this amazing duo.
If that was possible, sure, why not? But why not improve all areas of the team, rather than refuse to improve some areas of the team because other areas are also weak?
Bottom line
Monta and Curry are great on offense, and get manhandled on Defense. There’s no way around it. Say all you want about getting a true center, or a more defensively oriented PF, but the duo will get taken by a bigger backcourt, especially in the playoffs, when games slow down and defense is even more important. You know why Ellis played so well and was so efficient during the We Believe Season? Because he wasn’t “The Guy”. He was the third, maybe even fourth option. I love Ellis as a player for his flashiness and highlight plays, but at the end of the day, you have to give up something to get something. We might be getting the lesser player in the deal, but Curry will have room to grow, and there will be a cascade effect defensively by having a properly sized 2 guard. Lee, Biedrins, Udoh will all become more effective defensively because a) they won’t have to foul as much when guards go untouched into the lane, and b) they will be able to stay in better position on their own men. I’ll be really sad to see Monta go, but honestly, I can’t think of a way that Curry and Monta can really co-exist longterm, short of Ellis being a 6th man, which is not in the cards right now.
If we go through with this want to see the entire squad be reshaped into a great defensive team
Not half arsing it and pretending like Dre fixes our issues. I mean going hard for say Chandler at center , get a nice deep bench of capable defenders and too commit to it
PG – Curry, Lin
SG – Dre, Lighty
SF – DW, Singleton, Posey (Beans trade)
PF – Lee, Louis, Reggie Evans
C – Chandler , Udoh
Or if we do draft Klay take out Lighty and insert Leslie or Skeen or someone like that

Also take out Singleton (obviously)
That team is great on defense and good enough on offense imo

Agreed.
After Beans, Lee is the next guy I’d wanna move.
Slow down everyone...
Let’s see what other offers are coming. I’m sure there are quite a few so let’s let the front office sort through everything.

I'd love to see a package
that would include Beans. Even Lee for a smaller contract (with some talent coming back our way) could do wonders for us going forward.
