Dear Nene, please decide to come here like Lee did even though we don't have the money so we can do a sign and trade for you involving Biedrins?
Pretty please?

sick ass jersey
Assuming you mean "crushingly disappointing," I agree. Between the girly Copperplate, the fussy arched letters surrounding the circle, the Lakers-style collar, and the "visible pantie lines" of a wifebeater peeking through the transparent mesh of the jersey, I feel like my beloved team’s identity has been hijacked and vomited on by terrible designers. One last "screw you" from the Cohan regime, I guess. (Screw you too, Cohan regime!)
Here’s a 5-second cleanup:

looks pretty horrible after the clean up bro

Haha, OK. You dig the Copperplate, huh?
I agree that it has a very “elegant” and “sophisticated” and “adult contemporary” feel. It’s sort of the Kenny G of typefaces…

(Note the red “G” in Copperplate — totally fitting).

no I actually like your collar better
but the rest is better on our jersey imo
Well ignore my specific choice of typeface, (and hasty photoshop job).
Just imagine the word WARRIORS, alone is a bold strong face. Do you really prefer writing out the full team name — 19 characters! — in that weaselly print-ad type size and retail-y typeface? I mean, think for a a moment about:

or

or

Do you really not see how our look would be improved with the basic, tried-and-true graphic approach? Or, studly as those players are, how much less bold and strong they’d look with 19 little wimpy copperplate letters crawling all over the front of their jerseys?
If you don’t see it, that’s cool too — there’s no accounting for taste. Just trying to make you see where I’m coming from.

Also, in terms of material: I suspect even Jordan would look marginally less cool with “visible wife beater” lines showing beneath a semi-transparent mesh jersey. Seriously, what’s up with that?

all those are sick, but we have a logo on our jersey so it looks kinda off with the small number and everything. And yeah I’ve never noticed that our jerseys were see through, that’s pretty awful.
It's the new jersey material
They changed it this year

Well it seems more suited to the “New Jersey” shore than to a professional basketball team, imo. The faint outline of a wife-beater underneath lends a particularly NJ touch. All it needs is a mullet, gold chain, and a pack o’ cigs to round out the look.

He does have an unfortunate point about the new mesh material. The VWB effect is the fault only of adidas; while I credit them somewhat for putting function above form, it does look stupid, and there’s nothing the W’s can do other than mandate that their players not wear undershirts. (And I’m not even sure whether they can do that.)

I see
where your coming from. It should just say Warriors in a different font and much bigger and Golden State on the road jerseys/alt when we get them. I would like to keep the bridge on the front though

I’m totally down with the bridge and the big circle on the front. I even really like the stanchion of the bridge running up the side of the shorts. Both very original and unique.
I guess what bothers me most is that they came so close to doing something really bold and cool and then utterly crapped the bed with pretty much the most ham-handed cheap-corporate typography imaginable (in terms of typeface, type size and type treatment).

+1
The straight writing seems off

I think I agree — I threw it on there rather hastily. The type would probably look better on a subtle arc — as in the Bulls, Celtics. and Spurs logo — but not as is, daintily pussyfooting around the outside of the circle like a colony of namby-pamby ants. The two different vales of letterspacing (looser for GOLDEN STATE and tighter for WARRIORS) is also basically inexcusable from a typographic standpoint.
Let me do a subtly arced version and get back to you.

OK, here's that version
Assuming anyone’s still reading in here…

Needless to say, I think the version on the left is much stronger. In clearing out the all the fussy little text-size serif letters, it allows the strong elements of the new graphic identity to shine. It also retains much more of the graphic DNA of the “THE CITY” jerseys that we all love. Basically, it looks like a basketball jersey.
(I may have to post this in diary form — something to fill the lockout void).

I prefer the GSW one
I will have a hard time verbalizing why, but I think it looks more natural
The one on the left lacks a certain style to it
Seems bland and boring
Im sure when making them they looked at something similar and said no

Haha, OK. If they made a decision, it must be the wise one, right? I mean it’s not like the Cohan crew ever erred in any other other respect… :-P
I think there are some basic problems of readability and consistency with the existing unis, but in the end a lot of it does come down to personal taste. I tend to prefer the timeless “bland and boring” simplicity of unis like Bulls, Celtics, Spurs, Yankees, Jets, etc. Others respond better to mannered graphic futzing that may lend “a certain style.”
A certain stylishness FTW!!!

That said, I’m not 100% sold on the typeface shown in mine, either. I think it’s helluva lot more attractive than Copperplate, but ultimately it shares one of its fundamental flaws: it’s a typeface (Gotham, in this case), rather than a custom designed wordmark. A proper, handmade wordmark might lend some of the character (or “certain style”) you crave.
I guess what I’m proposing is a direction rather than I specific design. I think getting rid of all the tiny type and replacing with a single bold word would be a huge improvement. If there were any design merit at all in trying to cram 21 characters on the front of a sports jersey, I suspect that the Warriors wouldn’t be the only team in the history of the major sports to attempt it.
There will be no extra point!
I never noticed that the raptor himself is wearing a way better jersey than the player is. A giant R would have been a huge improvement.
On another, completely unrelated note: I wonder how many generations of the Jurassic Park era have been fooled into thinking “Raptors” are just dinosaurs. Are there any other professional sports teams that have been named based on a pop culture reference-turned-misnomer? Ornithologists and aviculturists must loathe Steven Spielberg.

so much better
soooo muuuuchh betttterrrrrrr
How much better would we really be If it's a sign and trade..
Say we trade Ellis and Udoh for Nene, how much better does that really make us?

Sleepy, you're really becoming the resident crotchety old man of GSoM
I like our jerseys this year. Probably most of any jersey since the classic Warriors jerseys of RunTMC and a few years after.
A return to our actual colors basically with a retro fell with a modern take on these.
I never liked the navy blue/orange and thunder logos. Not the Warriors I fell in love with anyway, which is fine, cause Cohan made them pretty unlikeable.
I wouldn’t be opposed to a return to the old school though:

Dude, I agree that the new (old) colorway rocks and that Thunder/navy/orange sucked. Did you even read my posts? I’m crotchety for very specific reasons that having nothing to do with color or Thunder. Here’s a hint:
Now, I want you to specifically defend (1) the teeny-tiny type size; (2) the 19 characters (or 20-21 if you count he number); (3) the choice of Copperplate, and (4) the VWL beneath the transparent mesh.
Son. ;-)
There will be no extra point!
1) I don’t mind the font size at all. Centerpiece of the jersey is the bridge logo. Any bigger font would have been obnoxious.
2) since they are small it doesn’t matter.
3) see: crotchety old man. Copperplate is the times new roman of 2011, time to leave 1996 behind sleepy
4) no excuses. That’s just poor manufacturing though. One last Cohan budget saving move on his way out
One of the best two Dubs jerseys ever.
This Sprewell/RUN TMC era jersey and “The City” jerseys are thee best!
