I feel like we're only good at drafting guards...But this is no reason to start the Monta trade talks again.

Well, beans are a cheap, abundant source of protein, and highly sustainable from an environmental standpoint. So perhaps the world should thank the Provider for them.

It gives us flexibility.

It’s nice to feel like we can trade Monta without having a gaping hole on the roster, which would have been where we were after letting Reggie go if Klay continued his suck-a-thon.

Monta has not been good this year. He’s ben doing the usual Monta con-job of putting up a lot of fancy points, but he’s missing an ungodly number of shots.

by Ronaldinho on Jan 18, 2012 10:12 AM PST reply actions

Monta's been poor, no doubt

David Lee’s been good though. Surprising me after an awful start. 19.9 per 36, .569 TS% (and rising), 10.4 rp36

I think in Lee’s case, it took our staff a few games (which would have been preseason in a normal year) to figure out what are best ways to utilize him

by tafkasam on Jan 18, 2012 10:34 AM PST up reply actions

I always felt like Klay was drafted to be Monta’s replacement in a trade. I still feel like he’s being developed right now to become that. I have not heard this, but my gut tells me the front office has a dream of a Curry/Klay tradiontal backcourt with 2 marketable guys that happen to be great shooters. If Monta could get us Hibbert id do it now. Im only trading Monta for 2 things, a upgrade at the 5 spot or a upgrade at the 3 spot that makes less than Monta.

Ready to start, no. I think he deserves about 20ish mpg, but that’s just me. I’m a fan of the way he plays SG. Doesn’t need to handle the ball much. Pretty quick off the ball and taking screens to get open. The plays we run for him look like a simplified version of what the Celtics do with Ray Allen. He should pair well with a ball dominant PG (a healthy Curry maybe).

by G-State on Jan 18, 2012 7:36 PM PST up reply actions

So why is Monta or Klay getting consideration to start?

Both are very bad defenders and at least imo Reggie’s the best offensive player of the group. But Reggie doesn’t make highlight plays and wasn’t a high draft pick so I guess he was just forgotten.

But as for his demeanor, I agree. It seems that he nonchalantly walks off the court during stoppages, and when interviewed he seems to either be looking down at his untied shoe laces or up at some shimmering object in the distance. But as long as he plays hard and keeps progressing on the court, I could care if he cares less.

That was one of the least substantive articles I've read in long time

Comparing Thompson and Irving? Forgot to mention Irving’s 8 boards, 5 assists, steals, blocks and position as a key to his time. Thompson has been a disappointment thus far, no question about it. He has in no way given the inclination that he is a viable replacement in the event of an Ellis trade.

There are countless rookies ahead of Klay Thompson for rookie of the year, Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, and MarShon Brooks to name a few.

by eastbayglory on Jan 18, 2012 11:55 AM PST reply actions   1 recs

Why do everyone thinks Kawhi is even any good. The guy is a rookie who’s getting the benefit of being in a team with Ginobili, Parker, and Duncan. Not saying Klay is better in any form but Kawhi was drafted by a team who’s playoff bound every year. He’s not an accountability for any team to play real defense against and San Antonio has always been a defensive team. Only rookies I see who should be in the lead for ROY is Kyrie Irving and Rubio.

Proves that #1 pick is 80% chance sure thing to get a star (of course there is KBrown, etc). Other than the #1 pick, it is all 50-50 chance. So forget about tanking, let’s just spend money like crazy and sign one star and WAY~ overpay him.

by ILoveWarriorsGirls on Jan 19, 2012 1:35 PM PST up reply actions

The last 20 #1 picks:

Irving, Wall, Griffin, Rose, Oden Bargnani, Bogut, Howard, James, Ming, Brown, Martin, Brand, Olokandi, Duncan, Iverson, Smith, Robinson, Webber, Shaq.

Wall, Oden, Bogut, Brown, Martin, Olokandi, Smith, and Robinson are unambiguously NOT difference-makers for their team in the way that’s worth blowing up the team for. I’d thrown Brand and Bargnani in there, too, but YMMV. Even without them, that’s 40% of the last 20 top picks.

In other words:

Proves that #1 pick is 80% chance sure thing to get a star

Proof fail.

But I don’t see Wall playing effective basketball at this point in his career. If he were really a star, I think they’d have a better record than they do.

Gambino is a mastermind...

by GovernorStephCurry on Jan 19, 2012 11:30 PM PST up reply actions

I don't disagree

He’s been poor. He’s still forcing the issue a lot more than I’d like. I think it’s really an awful environment. All the players on the team are chuckers, including Wall to a degree, who at best will probably be like Baron or Westbrook scoringwise (doubt he’s ever more than approaching average efficiency).

Seems like Flip has no control either.

He’s still one of best pure PG prospects I’ve seen, and needs to play a bit under more control. Actually a player I think our Coach or D’antoni or someone who supposedly specializes in PGs could do wonders with.

I probably couldn’t be bothered to talk about a Wall for Curry swap. However if his play continues to suck and they tack on a Pick and maybe McGee, i would definitely take the chance

Discounting the 2010 and 2011 draft (because it’s too early)-

Only 2000 (when Kenyon Martin was #1) and 1999 (depending how you rate draft has produced Baron Davis, Elton Brand) have failed to produce atleast 1 multi-time all-star, or a legitimate difference maker. A lot of them were picked #2-8

That’s where scouting comes in. You know not picking Kwame over Pau, Bargnani over CP3, Oden over Durant etc.

With the first pick, you should get a franchise cornerstone 80+% of the time.

No one was going to select Paul #1.

It’s like bitching about Rondo or Roy not going over #1 over Bargs when that would have never been a possibility.

Gambino is a mastermind...

by GovernorStephCurry on Jan 19, 2012 11:29 PM PST up reply actions

Paul was the #4 pick!

Deron was #3 (And he’d be a better pickup than Bogut too).

That’s not anywhere near Rondo who was #16 IIRC.

Also Roy went 6, and was projected somewhere before 7, so that wouldn’t have been poor. LMA went #2 and he’s a better player than Bargs and a player I’d like.

I’m saying good if you got a #1 pick, you can’t miss. Following conventional wisdom is just plain dumb. You have scouts, do your homework. If your scouts can’t project a the top player in college, get new scouts.

Thompson has been a disappointment thus far, no question about it. He has in no way given the inclination that he is a viable replacement in the event of an Ellis trade.

Hmmm? He can shoot the rock, which we all expected. The rest? Well…question marks. He was the 11th pick in the draft. If you’re expecting a bonafide starter there, I’d suggest it’s more an issue of inaccurate expectations than Klay not living up to what we thought he’d be.

by Missing Barry on Jan 18, 2012 2:13 PM PST up reply actions

Irving is the new CP3. He’s gonna be a star in less than 2 years. Sad thing is he’s never gonna get anybody to sign to Cleveland to play with him no matter how many allstar games he’s in.

Its no trade currently on the table specifically. What I know is that a change will be made if the team is no better this year than it was last year by the trade deadline. So its not as if they have a team already in place for a deal, they know what they can get for who at any time. They are putting out feelers right now for every player on the team besides Lee. So to answer your question, if were not above 500 then yes a trade should be made, I cant say if its good or bad until I know the deal and the players in the deal. But somebody is gone if were below 500 at the deadline. It could be a fan favorite.

Very true. With harsher cap penalties, it makes trading Lee nearly impossible if you want any value. You could trade him now to somewhere like Cleveland for Varejao and another guy but thats not value. Lee is here till his contract is up.

It should probably be noted that Philly has won 9 of 10 and by point differential is currently the best team in the NBA (though their schedule thus far has pretty much been a cakewalk).

There will be no extra point!

But don't forget Philly got killed by Suns a night before

.. and after Philly played with Warriors, they got much better.

wow, this season is weird!

so many back to backs, injuries, and no training camp…

the knicks were the 8 seed and made the Finals in the last lockout season

strange things happen when schedules are condensed

Ha

That is funny. I disagree, but that is still funny.

I heard we had the hardest schedule up to this point.

by J-RIDAH on Jan 18, 2012 1:46 PM PST reply actions

I like him so far

hoping to see a more well-rounded game as the season goes along

there was never a doubt in my mind that he’d find his stroke

Klay shooting 46% from beyond the arch. In a minute its gonna be hard to say who the best shooter on this team is.

by J-RIDAH on Jan 20, 2012 12:20 PM PST reply actions

He’s a good shooter, no doubt. Not gonna put him in Curry’s category, though – Klay benefits from shooting 3’s almost entirely catch and shoot. That Curry creates more of his 3’s for himself and still shoots a ridiculous percentage is amazing. Curry’s been around 75-80% assisted his first two seasons, Klay’s at 95% assisted so far this season.

Great point. Undebatable.

I like Klay's stroke

I think as he gets comfortable in NBA (and I cannot stress how much he’s at a disadvantage with no summer league and pre-season), rest of his offensive game will come.

He can create a bit off dribble, and hit more than just 3’s.

Would be nice if he starts to develop that KMart ability to draw fouls with his length.

I also like his passing, which continues to improve. He’s no Kapono, Korver, Morrow

He’s a better defender than all the guys you named right now. So far for a 11th pick in what many call the worst draft in a decade, he’s not looking bad at all. I still dont get how he shoots better from the 3 than he does inside the arch.

If we had Reggie, we'd have a great shooting team.

Too bad we don’t have anyone besides Curry and Klay now.

You think Reggie is a better shooter than Rush?

by J-RIDAH on Jan 20, 2012 4:31 PM PST up reply actions

yes?

obviously
