Mark Jackson
On second-to-last possession:
"We flattened it out and looked for him (Monta Ellis) to make a play and he had it going. In that situation you have an option to call a timeout or not - I had the ball in my best scorer's hands and I felt good about it. I didn't want to give them an opportunity to call a timeout and prepare their defense. At the end of the day...18 assists and 18 turnovers - and they scored 21 off of our turnovers. We have to be a better basketball team than we've been. That's just not going to cut it."

On the Pacer frontcourt:
"They were better. That's what it boils down to, tonight they were better. On the boards, in the paint we didn't do the job."

On Stephen Curry:
"I thought he was good. A couple of turnovers, a couple of careless plays but I thought he looked good. Fortunately, he got out of it healthy and I thought he got a great look at the end of the game. I thought he looked a little fatigued so I got him out early, but I was happy with what I saw. It's good to have him back."

On Danny Granger:
"He has very good size for a small forward, three point range, can post up and he had it going. They used him in a variety of ways and he hurt us."
Stephen Curry
On being back from injury:
"It felt great. It was tough being out for two and half weeks but it felt good to be back out on the floor and didn't have any problems with the ankles. It was a good night back but not the outcome of the game."

On second-to-last possession:
"You would like to have the possession back but you have to realize you don't want to be in that situation to begin with, especially at home. Many plays before that we could've got a couple more stops, couple more rebounds to control the game down the fourth in the stretch. We just didn't win that game."
Brandon Rush
On second-to-last possession:
"We have to be able to close out games and we didn't do that."

On Pacers frontcourt players:
"They have some big dudes down there in (David) West and (Roy) Hibbert and (Tyler) Hansbrough comes off the bench who gives them a spark. They are a tough team."

When will the Warriors learn..

that Monta cannot close out games?!?! I’m sooo incredibly tired of this organization putting the ball in Monta’s hands to do everything. He is inconsistant, makes poor decisions, and has given up at least 5 games this season single-handedly. Trade him while his stock is still reasonably high before he turns the corner to further mediocrity.

Meh

The problem is the utterly predictable Monta iso.

gonna have to disagree

being a warriors fan, i think Monta is a great player and i firmly believe he is among the top 5 in scoring ability. they put the ball in his hands because he has won games before at the last 10 secs..(2 come to mind right away, last year twice against kings). though i do agree with the point you made about maybe switching the play up from an iso, (although monta is a great driver and can finish spectacular shots). i would be very sad if they traded monta, he is a great player and, in my opinion, the most underrated player in the NBA. monta has a few games that weren’t going his way, yes, he is human…give him a break…after a blatant kick ball, i had confidence in the warriors. monta is having a great season averaging 23.3 points a game, 7 assists per game, 1.7 steals a game, poor decisions? inconsistent? i think not, check your facts…the warriors should not get rid of him, it would another horrible trade decision..we need a good center and the dubs would be a playoff team, no doubt.

i think it was once against the kings and once against indy, but those are the only 2 game winning/tying shots he has made off of isos. considering the amount of attempts he has taken (and the couple times he didn’t get a shot off), we should probably draw up something different than an iso.

wow

You remember 2 times last year? wow. I remember like 7 times this year when he either missed or didn’t get a shot off. Also Monta’s stats are pure fools gold, I could only hope other GMs in the league are as silly as you and value him that high. Good stats on a bad team, never seen that before.

by Athan on Jan 22, 2012 1:41 PM PST up reply actions

..

i remembered only a couple of the warriors games being that close and i guess i was wrong on that aspect. but i dont think monte’s stats are fools gold. he plays very hard and for being on a team that has seen very talented players (curry, lee), he does a stand up job. he is a very good offensive player and i do think the warriors could be a very successful team with curry and monta in their backcourt, just need a offensive center. also i dont think the warriors are bad, just inconsistent and they havent “clicked” yet i guess..but when they want to win games they can, ESPECIALLY at home, awesome fans. in my personal opinion of watching monta over the last few years i believe hes a great player and an all-star even though the league might think not…your entitled to your own opinion and i respect that. but i think they should get the ball to curry in close games like that, dont think you could disagree with that, but thats the coaches decision, certainly cant be getting mad at monta for that.

This

Run a play like the Timberwolves did to beat the clippers. Anything but an iso. Everyone sees it coming and Monta isn’t good at it.

congrats to Jackson and Lacob

for reducing some very good hoops players into nondescript, disjointed game performances. there was a fast break that Wright couldn’t get in synch, followed by Ellis and then Curry getting the ball and wasting the possession entirely. the team would benefit from reinstalling the Nelson fast break drills [P.Silas had his son give them to his team as soon as he relocated from oaktown]; if nothing else, they’d improve their lousy transition d. Robinson, Rush, Thompson actually play more smoothly together than the starters, not that they’d be able to play extended minutes and win against decent opposition.

there’ll be some complaints about the refs missing the call on the kicked ball, but a play like that isn’t so simple to isolate visually and then make a judgement that the kick was intentional in the micro-moment it occurs at full speed. For good defenders who do their study and legwork, Ellis’ one on one stuff is predictable; he essentially dribbled the ball into the defender, and Hill made an aggressive and winning play. Was he supposed to go passive and soft ?

Does Ind really have stronger talent, reflected in its record ? Or does it have coaching that understands how best to use its players ? We can only grant Jackson a probationary period and hope he is capable of learning, assimilating, and adapting. He needs to identify and build on a floor leader for the fourth quarter — their lack of one was obvious in the NJ game as well as this one. If he thinks that leader is Ellis, it’s not going to work consistently, or what he’s putting around Ellis and having him (fail to)execute is misconceived. Their standard has been so poor that Robinson at his best has been one of the better floor leaders on the team.

seriously

Thanks, last night made me want to be done with the NBA entirely. How do the refs miss such a blatant kicked ball? They can see a foul from 50 feet away with two people in the way, but they can’t see a ball change angles mid dribble?? Rrgh, I definitely wouldn’t have had the patience to go to other links, especially ones that gloss over the kicked ball..

by Ice Watter In His Veins! on Jan 21, 2012 11:29 AM PST via iPhone app up reply actions

good aggressive defense

and Ellis dribbled the ball into the defender — have you not seen that before ? if it was a missed call, that’s part of the game. they squandered plenty of possessions and turned it over plenty of times before that final possession, why not look at all those errors rather than a ref’s oversight of a split second event?

Yeah, they really get pretty pushy.
Last time I went, there was an open rebellion.
My bro was one of the finalists and the staff kept trying to get us to leave (along with another larger group)
…got to the point where they threatened to have us removed by security, we essentially said “go ahead” and we managed to stick around to see the end of the contest

It’s like dude I’m shooting a FT that I payed for calm your stuff down , me and 4 other friends were in line and we were standing on the baseline watching each other shoot after we had shot and they were like yelling at us to get off the court, we were out of the way on the baseline . Like really? They almost make me not want to do that again

do you mean to say

that the people who run the arena don’t like the team’s booster organization to hold events there ? If they are really harassing people participating in a booster event, your representatives should discuss the matter with team employees.

by the.monk on Jan 21, 2012 2:14 PM PST up reply actions

Well, it's a bit more complicated

I see their angle, they are essentially herding hundreds of people on and off the court, probably at a time when staff wants nothing more than to go home.

But yeah, from a participants perspective, it sucks. And I really wouldn’t mind if some GSoM reps had a discussion with the Dubs about this. From my earlier story, one of the people in our group told security he was waiting for his 10 year old nephew – security response was essentially “meet him outside”
