Hmmm EG before trade deadline...say for Monta Ellis. I know some will not want small ball, but I think EG and Curry can work together.

After tonight's game

I think Monta should be our PG, Curry the SG.

haha i wish.

monta could be a really good PG if it weren’t for his love of iso’s and shooting. but damn he makes good drives and pass.

curry & iggy TEAM USA buddies.

as long as Monta keeps his TO under 3 per game, I am okay with him jacking up shots every once a while

even under 5 TOs will be nice if it can continue with his assist. I loved when he drives and then kick it out to Curry.

by ILoveWarriorsGirls on Jan 25, 2012 11:02 PM PST up reply actions

mm again those per game numbers are so good...

Considering he plays such a high number of minutes I’m not surprised. Also most of his assists are not fundamentally sound… he has a terrible tendency to get caught up in the air when he’s trying to pass, which leads to more turnovers overall. And the reason why he gets caught up in the air when he’s trying to pass is because he drives with the intent to score, but when he realizes he is outnumbered he needs to get bailed out by people waiting on the 3 point line when he isos so he jumps in the air to try and give a pass that easily gets picked off if the defense just watches his body (not to mention most of his passes are like bullet passes that are extremely difficult to handle. Look at any PG and you don’t see them pass in the air nor do they make the pass so hard that you can’t handle it).

I mentioned that other players bail him out on the 3 point line… Well they shouldn’t be there, but since everyone expects Monta to drive/shoot instead of pass, the entire offense stagnates and everyone just watches him… He doesn’t run an offense. He’s learned to pass more which leads to higher assist numbers but PG’s run an offense and move the ball and direct a play. They are floor generals. Monta is not a floor general. He doesn’t run an offense, he doesn’t move the ball until the last minute, and he certainly doesn’t direct a play beyond iso.

I agree

Steph Curry is so much more dangerous as a catch and shoot player than he is when he’s dominating the ball.

I think Monta should be our PG, Curry the SG.

I think I’d rather see this, so that Curry gets his shots.

Read my Advanced Stats Primer

J-RIDAH: Its not 1 player in this draft better than Monta or Lee. Anthony Davis is no different than Al Farouq Aminu. Andre Drummond could be good but he is not impressive at this point at all besides his size. This draft is hella overated.

(JaVale) Mcgee is better than anybody in this draft.

by Evanz on Jan 26, 2012 5:55 AM PST up reply actions

or we can just move the ball better as a team to get steph shots on rotation and kick outsl

Like nellie did.

Eitherway, I liked what I saw this game and first preseason v. Sac.

if that means monta will shoot less, then sign me up

I am pretty sure NOH wants cap space

they will be more interested in Gordon for KBrown, or just let Gordon walk

by ILoveWarriorsGirls on Jan 25, 2012 11:00 PM PST reply actions

well i think NO really wants a player who can be a star.

they clearly made that trade because they intended on signing a franchise-type player. But I feel like EG wants more so if we can find a way to trade for EG + fillers for Monta + fillers (alot dump beans), they may take it.

but of course picks for EG sounds better, but EG may not sign with those teams. I feel like EG and Curry can be a real good tandem.

If NOH wants a franchise player, they won't trade away CP3.
EG may not sign with those teams

EG is okay to sign with NOH id NOH is willing to pay max, I think EG only cares about $$

no chance

Warriors FO is to chicken to pull it off because Gordon got injured few times.

No.

We don’t have the money to sign him.

Ohhh wait its probably understandable if your sitting on the tank.

by maryjane on Jan 25, 2012 11:20 PM PST reply actions

yeah we know

EG made the US team and Monta didnt. He must be better than Monta in that case.

Pass me what your smokin dude

by maryjane on Jan 26, 2012 12:21 AM PST up reply actions

mm you think too highly of Monta

Eric Gordon is a MUCH better player in the long term than Monta. He’s younger, a better shooter, a more efficient scorer, and a better defender. He’s just overall a better SG and doesn’t take stupid shots either.

Monta wasn’t even chosen for the US Team… Why do you think that? Why didn’t NO want Monta for CP3 but they wanted Gordon (who by the way has had injury issues thus lowering his value)?

Maybe 1 on 1 Monta will win, but you have to look at how a player contributes to the wins of a team to determine the player’s value. So while Monta may be more skilled, Gordon is better for a team because of his better shooting and scoring and defending. Basketball is a team sport: Monta is a negative in terms of contributing to the team (and we all know why).

With Gordon they also got a Minny's 1st round pick

I think that was the real kicker…actually its pretty obvious that it was

http://nbawarriors.wordpress.com/

by Brownie13 on Jan 26, 2012 1:25 AM PST up reply actions

with Minnesota playing as well as they are

that pick isn’t actually as interesting anymore. Of course beforehand they couldn’t have known that, but having Eric Gordon was an important part of course (if I recall they wanted Gordon/Jordan, 1st rounder, and all their young guys). If the season were to end now that would only be the 12th pick.

by Nith on Jan 26, 2012 11:57 AM PST up reply actions

i still dont think minny makes the playoffs

and any lottery pick in this draft is good value

anymore doesn't matter

matters how it was viewed at the time. you even said so in your post. so what was your point?

http://nbawarriors.wordpress.com/

by Brownie13 on Jan 26, 2012 10:32 PM PST up reply actions

the 1st round pick was huge I know that

but I’m saying Gordon was also an important part of that trade as well. Stern wanted young talent, picks, and expiring contracts: Gordon really was the young talent part of that trade.

I have a feeling if you substituted Gordon with any of their other young players (except Jordon) Stern would feel a little more hesitant. As much as you want cheap young players and picks for superstars you also need at least a solid player in that trade to balance out the talent (because picks are risky and so are young guys on rookie contracts). So Eric Gordon was probably a centerpiece in that trade because he was more proven and if no one else panned out at least you got him (speculation of course).

by Nith on Jan 27, 2012 11:41 AM PST up reply actions

you don't understand what in getting at

Our problem is not at the sg or pg position. We need help inside FULLSTOP. Address those needs first before getting rid of our better players… Unless we can trade him for a decent big man.

by maryjane on Jan 26, 2012 1:35 AM PST up reply actions

Our problem is at the “best player on the team” position. We don’t have a good enough best player. Thinking of solutions while ignoring that is only going to give you band-aids while never solving the real issue.

by Missing Barry on Jan 26, 2012 10:17 AM PST up reply actions

our problem is we lack talent overall

To be able to be a consistent contender for even the 8th seed. We’re not a team where we only have a few holes that 1-2 guys can fill… We have a lot of issues that need to be addressed, and 1-2 big men aren’t going to do that. I agree with Missing Barry, until you address the need for a star player on this team adding a bunch of mid level big men isn’t going to solve anything in the long term.

by Nith on Jan 26, 2012 11:55 AM PST up reply actions

I'd probably do it

I’d like them to throw in Okafor too, he might be overpaid but he’s a pretty decent center with legit size will definitely help us and I’m sure hornets are looking to move his contract too. Monta, Biedrins, Klay or Udoh for Eric Gordon and Okafor might do it for them. Only thing I don’t like about Gordon is that he’s injury prone with knee issues already and killing my fantasy team..

by Raiiny on Jan 26, 2012 2:45 AM PST reply actions

since the FO is so set on Monta paying off in the end, he's not going anywhere

Top free agents that would be better options for the team (unfortunately, they’re RFA’s):

1. Roy Hibbert
2. D-Will
3. Ryan Anderson
4. Brook Lopez
5. Nicolas Batum

It's lonely being the only Warriors fan at UMass :(

He's gonna be a restricted free agent

EG’s constant injuries concern me. Don’t know if I’d trade for him.

by Slightly Hyphy on Jan 26, 2012 8:19 AM PST reply actions

Not really all that enticing of an upgrade for us, IMO

What would be scary is if they could flip him to Washington for their draft pick, and essentially end up with 3 1st round lottery picks in the upcoming draft.

T - A - N - K - M - O - D - E (that's all.)

by Butterknuckles on Jan 26, 2012 9:14 AM PST reply actions

Why would that be scarier than 2 lottery picks and Eric Gordon?

Cap space I guess

He’ll be restricted. I see no reason at all for NO to get rid of him. He was the centerpiece of that trade, he’s young, he’s good…so why are we talking about him?

by Missing Barry on Jan 26, 2012 10:19 AM PST reply actions

he turned down their contract offer

But I say “not interested”
he’s going to want boatloads of cash to come here, and we need a C more than yet another wing player

It doesn’t matter. He’s restricted. He CAN’T turn down their offer this offseason.

by Missing Barry on Jan 26, 2012 11:21 AM PST up reply actions

(Well, I think he can take a one year contract to become unrestricted next offseason, but that’s it)

by Missing Barry on Jan 26, 2012 11:21 AM PST up reply actions

which is why, if they were going to make a panic trade of gordon, it wouldn't come until next year anyways

so thinking we can trade for him this year because NO is afraid he’ll leave is just dumb.

Where does it say he turned down the offer?

From what I read, it looks like the NBA didn’t want to extend anyone right now (while looking for a buyer, I assume).

by Spider Jerusalem on Jan 26, 2012 11:21 AM PST up reply actions

yeah, I'm a little confused now, actually

ok, here’s the yahoo article I saw this morning

The league approved a four-year offer to Gordon, sources said, but it wasn’t enough to sway Gordon to sign.

but yeah, as MB corrects me above, worst-case scenario is that Gordan is a RFA next year

Hornets

I’m a huge warriors fan and watch every game but my number two team is my home team the hornets. THey would never ever take Monta but honestly I’m worried about Gordon in our future. I’m excited to see how he balls, which we havn’t actually seen yet as hes only played one game with jarret Jack, but he’s obviously a star and can straight ball up so we’ll see.

I’m flyin up to bay area for a game in March I’m pumped baby lezz go dubs
