Off Topic: GSOM HTML/CSS suggestions

Thanks for starting this diary. You can actually voice your opinions directly to the GSoM staff, since we basically have control over the final color selections, at least within the parameters set by the SB Nation CMS. My thoughts:

1. Unless you’ve installed ad-block software, the banner header reads mostly as a rotating series of ads. For that, a simple black background reads better than anything involving an image, imo. Basically all you read if you don’t have ad-block is a black border. It was navy, but I thought navy was too reminiscent of the old discredited GSW brand, and needlessly added another shade of blue to an already colorful site.

2. So far GSoM staff is divided between blue and gold for the nav bar. Personally, I love the gold. I felt the site was a bit too blue/grey overall without the splash of gold there. If you’re concerned about the site becoming too grey and depressing (a concern I share), the big blast of gold on the nav bar is nothing if not cheerful.

3. Point taken. I think it’s more an issue of the grey being too dark than the use of grey per se. The grey of the side bar, for example, reads a nice neutral backdrop without being at all sad. I asked the SBN graphics/tech team if they could lighten it, but he said the percentage tint is dictated by the CMS. Replacing the grey tints with blue ones is a possibility, though. I worry that all that blue might be equally cold and sad (there’s a lot of blue going on already), but I think we’ll at least try it out.

Curious to see what GSoM as a whole thinks. Do people like the graphic changes overall? Does anyone miss the peachy-orangey-brown palette we had for like a week? Are people digging the new logo? Did people notice the new favicon and the new mini-horizontal “GSoM” logo (on your mobile device, and on your profile page, under blog memberships)? Rants and raves are welcome…

Maybe a blue background with some added gold somewhere?

the dubs SBN site to the other teams and we look good. Only one that really looked equal to me was Okla which kinda surprised me as other than our boy zorgon I didn’t know they were so hip in Okla. . Nets had a nice WPA art look to it too but all the rest were very similar.

the new re-positioned icon for bookmarks. So much better than the previous one. Thanks for changing it!

It just looks so much cleaner and more professional. The current logo is too busy and the arrow gives it a “7yr. old screwing around with MS paint” vibe. Now that I think of it, the absence of orange appeals to me as well. Orange has been banished from the official color scheme, so you, as above, so below, yo!
