On The Bench Tonight:
"Give that second unit a lot of credit. They did a great job of battling on the defensive end; they really paid attention to the details and elevated the energy level. They got quality offensive trips, even when we did not make shots we got what we wanted out of it. They did a great job of bringing it home and I give my starters credit. I've played in this league 17 years, I've seen where a coach or a team stays with the hot hand, bench, and I've seen star players basically sulk on the bench. My guys were part of it. They were intense, they were excited and they supported the bench and what they were doing so it was a total team effort. I'm proud of them."

On The Reduced Number Of Turnovers:
"We drilled it, we talked about it. This is a process. We talked about second shot opportunities, giving them up and we talked about taking care of the basketball. We also talked about getting back in transition defensively and our guys did a great job of taking care of the basketball. You talk about 26 assists on 37 field goals, it's a great job distributing the ball and then not trying to go for the homerun play. When we did, we made mistakes and we realized it and we made the correct adjustments."

On Andris Biedrins:
"We made a conscious effort starting the game off by getting him the basketball and he did a great job. He was aggressive, he got fouled, he scored and he was all over the floor defensively; putting his body on guys and altering shots. He did a great job tonight and it started right away."
Stephen Curry
On Sitting The Fourth Quarter:
"There are no selfish guys on this team. We understand coach made the decision to stick with those guys. They played well with a lot of energy towards the end of the third quarter and saw matchups they liked. They took the game home for us. They do the same for us when we're finishing games out so we had to do the same for them."
Dorell Wright
On Supporting The Second Unit:
"When we get the starts and are playing well they're out there doing the same thing. Nate (Robinson) does a great job of getting the bench into the game when the starters are in the game. That's what it's about, it's a team game. It's not an individual sport so when your teammates are doing a good job and are picking you up, it's only right to cheer for them. Those guys played extremely hard, kept us in the game and won the game for us. You have to tip your hat to them."

On Tonight's Win:
"Anytime when we play at home it's a must win. These are the games we have to win so we can start our winning streak and get onto the right path. I think we did a lot of good things today. I think those three days off gave us the opportunity to go back to the drawing board as far as getting game plans on the defensive end. Guys came out there and left it out on the floor."
Dominic McGuire
On Playing The Second Unit The Entire Fourth Quarter:
"I think we have great chemistry in the second unit. Everybody comes in, plays hard and plays defense. We know who our scorers are. Ekpe (Udoh) and I try to handle the defensive part and let everyone else get buckets."

This team will struggle to be .450 or whatever

and we will continue our long walk on the treadmill of mediocrity

If you're watching a blowout, you can pass the time by counting the double teapots.

probably closer to 5% chance of having a top 3 pick, and probably less than 2% of getting pick 1.

god, this is so depressing to me right now

I mean, unless something major happens to them, the Kings are looking much better long-term. Give Tyreke and Cuz another couple years, add another high draft pick or two…

The sad thing is

We are worse off rebounding when he is off the court… so we need to keep playing Beans

And to be fair

Cousins is a beast on the boards. I’d love to acquire him somehow

i dont get why, when beans is shooting 71% on the season that we dont make him shoot a ton more?

at least try it until his numbers drop to 50%. And if that never happens then keep feedin him..

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Jan 31, 2012 11:17 PM PST up reply actions

Few reasons:

When we feed him the ball and he doesn’t shoot, it can directly lead to a turnover on Andris. He only turns it over .4 times a game, but remember that’s still about 13% of the time he uses our possession. In addition, if we feed him the ball and he doesn’t shoot it, it often wastes time off of the shot clock, making the possession much more difficult for the other 4 guys on the court with him. Throwing the ball into him would stall basketball movement, without setting up an offensive match-up we want.

It’s also possible that the more we feed him, the more defense he will see, just because it’s not as unexpected that he has the ball. Considering he passes up on open looks some of the time, I certainly don’t want him with the ball when there’s actually defenders on him.

He doesn’t go to the free-throw line, and in fact actually seems afraid to do so. Which means he provides very little in the way of getting the opponents big men in foul trouble, which is usually a benefit of throwing the ball into the paint. This is also a factor in his passing up of open shots.

Another reason he doesn’t get the ball, is that he isn’t looking for it. As some have pointed out here on GSOM, he doesn’t roll very hard off of pick and rolls, and sometimes not at all. Considering he isn’t going to be shooting jumpers, the only place we can get him the ball to score is around the basket. If he doesn’t attack that area when he has the chance to, how are we supposed to give him an opportunity to score? Sometimes, though, he really just isn’t even paying attention to the ball. You can’t pass to a guy that doesn’t know the ball is coming. Or at least, you shouldn’t.

no, because our guards are selfish

Just feed Beans. Tell Beans not even doing baby hooks, just face up and go strong and get foul. We need to get more foul calls to win the game.

But all seriousness,

Our bench was huge, rush had good game, Udoh was Big, Mcwire was beasting, Nate hustling, Klay drawing double teams. Nice.

Klay was 2-10 from the field

Has he cooled off?

I did notice last night

that the Kings were paying lots of attention to Klay coming off screens (which led to Rush being left open)…bad Kings D, no doubt, but I think it kept Klay to taking bad looks.

I like MJ interviews wayy better than Smart interviews...

Is it me or did it always look like Smart would mack a bunch of food first before the post game interview and the whole interview he woud be burping all the time and putting his fist over his mouth and saying excuse me….

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Jan 31, 2012 11:20 PM PST up reply actions

I've actually felt the opposite.

I enjoyed Nellie’s and Smart’s interviews more because they bring more personality into them, and often times are also more technically oriented. I felt like I could learn about the game from their explanations of what happened. Mark Jackson always sounds like he’s preaching and using the same message over and over again, like the “We’re a no excuse basketball team”. That got tiring to listen to after a while.

by IQofaWarrior on Jan 31, 2012 11:37 PM PST up reply actions

I think mj sounds worse only in that

Te way he answers the media’s question makes him sound in denial and borderline delusional. I know he can’t come out and say, “well hey we just suck a big one” but there are ways of gently tip toeing around hard questions without sounding far and away detached from reality and refusing to even accept a little criticism seems disconcerting to me. Although he is still a rookie head coach.

"I thought it was going in," Warriors center Chris Hunter said. "It looked like the invisible man tipped it away at the last second."
