Mark Jackson
On If The Mood Changed When Stephen Curry Went Down:
"It's natural to think here we go again, as a player. It was a disappointing loss. Things were still going our way. The bottom line is giving up 31 points in the fourth quarter is not a way to close out a victory on the road."

On What The Spurs Did Differently In The Fourth Quarter:
"They made shots. We had some breakdowns. It was disappointing."

On The Performance Of Monta Ellis:
"He was incredible and inspiring. He made every play. I asked him if he needed a breather, he said, 'No.' It didn't look like he was out of gas. Not only am I asking him to make the plays on the offensive end, but I'm asking him to defend Tony Parker on the other end. He gave me everything he had. I'm proud of his effort and his leadership. I hope that his passion for the game truly becomes contagious in the locker room."
Stephen Curry
On Re-Injuring His Right Ankle:
"I got the steal. It was either a steal or a deflection but I got the ball. Put up a pump fake in transition and took off on my right foot. I pushed off on my toe and it flipped over. It was just a re-aggravation of the same thing that has been happening. It is another frustrating incident that I have to deal with."

On Measuring The Severity Of The Injury:
"The way I do it is I tell the athletic trainers the instant pain I feel and this is the worst it has been. I am sure it has to do with the fact that it's the third time. It is hard to say exactly how to react. I tried to put weight on it. I did put weight on it. I tried to tape it back up and lace it back up to go back out there but it started to stiffen. We will just have to see how it reacts tomorrow. It's déjà vu all over again."

he was on fire before steph went down

then he had to log heavy nellie minutes and tired out way too early in the 4th

plus he had to guard Parker almost all the second half

Dude!

If you missed this, you gotta look for a replay

Monta was incredible!!
Him and Steph were both playing so good off each other…
And we finally have big dudes! The Big Splash plus Biedrens is semi legit.

Just melted down in the 4th though. Same story, including Stephs ankle (did NOT look good: rolled the ankle moving forward and looked like he was in extreme pain…something’s really wrong in that ankle)

Klaynk looked a little better, but when he shoots, I still expect a miss (I remember one shot that just baaaarrrrly grazed the front of the rim, you could see our whole squad kinda sigh and look down

Steph doesn’t roll his ankle and we win this game for sure

Monta was amazing last night

That guy, regardless of whatever weaknesses he may have in his game, is phenomenal. If he was surrounded by a good defense and 1-2 other guys who could consistently create offense, the Warriors would win more than they lose. Last night after Steph went down there was simply nobody helping. Not to point fingers, but don’t we have an offensively-minded PF making $13 million a year? Where was he last night down the stretch?

Would have been somewhat more imaginable without the ankle issues. Why on earth would the Magic take a gimpy 6’3" guard for the best big man the NBA? What else are you offering?

In fairness, he’s at least partially to blame for two of those things.

But yeah, his ability to stay focused and in the game is pretty phenomenal. He never seems to get tired, or distracted, or psyched out, or discouraged. Whatever you else you may say about him, he is a warrior (with a lower case w).

We need to look for a Curry for a big time player deal ASAP before he ends up like Brandon Roy

Revisit Rondo please. Maybe Granger or Josh Smith, DWill, Dwight, Westbrook. Just someone who can stay healthy and help Monta

RIP Al Davis

by dubzfan on Jan 4, 2012 8:50 PM PST reply actions

Why would any other team be less concerned about potential long-term health issues than we are? If doctors think he’s likely to get back to full health, he’s still our own only player with a half-decent chance to be a significantly above-average starter (Monta’s got an outside shot if he switches to PG, but I wouldn’t bet on it). If doctors think the issues are chronic, we’d likely have to sell him for pennies on the dollar.

Obviously, you sell him if you can get really good value for him, but that’s always been the case. And it’s the case with any of our players, since we still have no one who makes you a good team as your #1 guy.

There will be no extra point!

The way Curry shoots the rock and looking at the free agency landscape, I think its safe to say at this point we wont get a better point guard than Steph. We’ll have 12 mill in capspace this summer, the sad thing is this is 1 of the worst free agency pool’s in awhile. I dont think its 1 small forward thats worth getting in it. Take away DH and DW and its not much there. Just our luck, 12 mill in capspace in a summer where its almost useless in terms of a difference maker and on top of that we have no draft pick in what many would say is a deep draft. So is life as a Warriors fan.

maybe not a total waste

being able to absorb salary in a trade can be a huge asset sometimes.
Hell, look at what the Mavs “gave up” to get Odom

by Duby Dub Dubs on Jan 5, 2012 10:33 AM PST up reply actions

Our 2 biggest weaknesses are post scoring and perimeter scoring. 12 million in cap space could address 1 of those in a good FA pool. But damn, I dont see a trade in which a team is willing to give up either 1 of those things just to do it. The best Centers available after DH are all restricted and 12 mill wont get em. I know Hibbert will get more than 12 as will Mcgee and Brook Lopez. Im looking into the future and I dont see much light for this team. If im Lacob I send Hakeem the Dream a check and beg him to move to the Bay for 3 months to turn Tyler into a presence. A athletic big man with weight can be molded into a factor in the low post. As far as perimeter scoring I say throw money at Wilson or JR Smith.

by J-RIDAH on Jan 5, 2012 12:03 PM PST up reply actions

I'm with you

the FO is in a damn tough spot. FA options are limited (as is our budget) and it’ll be really hard to get a team to trade us a true impact player without totally gutting our roster (and even then…)

patience is really the only good answer I can think of

Obviously, something awesome comes along, you take the deal.
but barring that, I think we just NEED to stockpile some assets, not make any stupid moves (soooooo happy we avoided Chandler for $16mil per)

We can't keep going on like this if Curry and Monta are the only reliable players.

Blow up this damn team because its stupidly ridiculous that if one goes out, we lose the game. Its sad to see. I believe we need to trade NOW when time is ripe and early in the season. If owners want to save face and be smart, now is the time to trade because our pieces are not clicking.

Curry – i would love to keep because he has a HIGHER potential that monta. but stupid injuries lower that ceiling. Still most of those injuries are weird injuries which i think are partly caused by unluck than actual weak ankles.

Monta – god i love this kid. gives you heart night in and night out. gives you O when you need it. however, plays like a selfish hog when things are stressed upon. (not faulting him there because our roster is seriously disfunctional. dwright/lee/beans??? where the bleep are you guys?).

Between those two, I hate to choose but if it takes one or the other, I hope its for a dominant center.

Looking at the rest of the roster, we need serious overhaul if we want to be good and respectable. TO be honest, I’m not even faulting the bench more than the starters because the bench is doing their jobs: defending to give starters rest. HOW-the f*ing-EVER, since our bench is offensive-deficient, we need aatleast monta or curry on the floor to provide scoring. That is not right and we need a scoring punch on the bench. Luckily we got that in Nate robinson.

Now back to the rest of the starters. Seriously package Dwright in the trade if it happens. Lee I can deal with because I think as long as we have a dominant center, stress will be relieved off him and he can just start providing his usual offense. Beans, I believe, will be part of the package no matter what because they will want a big back and beans can be that big.

If i had to make a trade it would look more like this…

Monta(only because his value is at an all time high right now—-i mean he is looking like an all star)/Dwright/Beans/Udoh/Klay for Howard+Filler. Hopefully that filler can be a backup 2grd(jrich please!!!)

but i would not hesitate to put Curry in for Monta though but I don’t think Orlando will take that deal. But if they do…think about Deron Williams leaving the Nets to join…look at this
Deron/Monta/Brush/Dlee/Howard………that is sex right there. Even with Curry as the 2 grd…it might be better because Deron can defend better than Monta.

selfish hog

He has been nothing of the such this season , he shoots when he has to and if you really think he was hogging tonight and doing the wrong thing you need to rewatch this game and reconsider what you think

We need to dump Lee and DW if they continue this

RIP Al Davis

by dubzfan on Jan 4, 2012 8:57 PM PST up reply actions

i meant no disrespect to Monta when I called him a selfish hog.

I meant he had to act like one because his teammates can not provide. he needed to be a selfish hog because he needed to will his team to win this game. This year, he rarely acted like a selfish hog at all. I really like Monta’s game and he is doing it efficiently too. But i am disgusted by the non-factor the rest of the team is making. Its sad to see Monta become a selfish hog because he soOoooo wants to provide assists for his team, but its not working.

Monta being a selfish hog when rest of team sucks bad > monta passing to stupid players who can’t make a shot for their life. only in this instance is when I will like Monta being a selfish hog…gives us a chance to win.

Rondo is fine

Really good on defense, its just a bit of a struggle to score since 2k12 hates anyone with speed to get in the paint. They need a speed patch ASAP, Monta getting out ran by Hawes and what not , not being able to take guys off the dribble etc. And that is for all players I have tried

Monta needs teammates

I don’t really see the Warriors going anywhere this year. Monta Ellis is playing at All Star Starter level, but nobody else on the Warriors brings it night in and night out.

Curry is, lets admit it, going to roll his ankle throughout this season, and likely his entire career.

David Lee is a 3rd/4th option on a good team.

Trade Dorrell Wright – but nobody will give you anything for him!

by sandscorpio on Jan 4, 2012 8:54 PM PST reply actions

Since today's game is early

I have some extra time while waiting for stuff to show up. I decided to look up all 7 of Curry’s ankle sprains.

1. 10/22/2010 @Lakers (preseason)
1a. 10/28/2010 vs Rockets (reaggravated ankle)
2. 10/29/2010 vs Clippers
3. 12/09/2010 @ Spurs
4. 04/12/2011 @ Nuggets
5. 12/20/2011 @Kings (preseason)
6. 12/26/2011 vs Bulls
7. 01/04/2012 @Spurs

And I believe they were ALL on the right ankle.

Don't be a fool

Just shut Steph down and get the ankle treated. Based on the history (thanks as always, IQ!) a week is not enough.

Plus, even if our long term plan (assuming there is one) is to trade either Steph or Monta, just like Sleepy was saying above, you’re not going to get a good return

Or…maybe we could do a Steph for Oden swap as some sort of karmic rusian roulette

by disguy on Jan 5, 2012 9:01 AM PST up reply actions

that ankle needs rest

the first ankle injury this year was a pretty legit rolled ankle, number two was landing on someone’s foot (both are just luck of the draw), at this point though, it looks like a classic case of glass ankles (sorry to keep repeating this)

at this point, he needs to get it back to fully healthy. If you’ve ever rolled an ankle you know that even though it may feel a little better after a couple days, it usually takes a couple of weeks before you’re back up to full strength

the fact that:
a.) this one didn’t really look all that bad (he didn’t really “roll” the ankle, it just kinda wobbled)…and he somehow managed to do it while moving forward;
b.) he looked like he was in extreme pain

tells me that there is something seriously wrong in there. A couple days (or even a week) of rest aint gonna do ish. Who cares that he just took a ton of time off? I remember teachers telling me that recess was the time to go to the bathroom, doesn’t change the fact that if you gotta go, you gotta go

big z had stress fractures in his foot

Grant Hill had ankle injuries but his was much worse. his final year in detroit he suffered a severe high ankle sprain with detroit barely clinging to a playoff spot and he rushed back and played on a gimpy ankle and had a ridiculous series stat-wise but they lost in the first round.

then he goes to Orlando and realizes through their medical staff that the ankle was slightly dislocated or something and had loose bone fragments that Detroit medical staff “missed” in their medical exams. so then he has to get a more serious surgery because of how terrible his ankle became and then finds out the ankle surgery was botched and that it got infected(possibly fatal) and had to get additional surgery on it

all in all grant lost about 6 years worth of playing(and his prime too) and if not for the phoenix doctors who knows where he would have been had he not went there?

because this team likely won’t win enough games to be more than an afterthought to anyone who’s going to vote.

I hope this isn’t another wasted year for a guy who really deserves to be mentioned among some of the league’s best.

that is why we need to make a huge trade before Monta gets upset and demands a trade.

Seriously, he does not deserve this crap and honestly neither does Curry but eventually he will feel the same way.

even if we dont trade monta and Curry, the rest needs to go. even DLee if we can.

better be sooner than later because i see Monta having an all-star year. Owners want a nice team with respect…let Monta be an all-star this year, im sure FA will hear about this madness.

I'm not sure what he means by that either

But having both Monta and Dwight would be helpful in keeping Dwight. Apparently Howard wants to pal around with him.

by ohcleverhansyou on Jan 4, 2012 9:20 PM PST up reply actions

Exactly

What would be the point of getting Dwight if we give up Monta? I guess if the FO MUST trade Monta for Dwight then so be it, but that’s basically giving up half the offense of we just to get the half we don’t have. It’s somewhat self-defeating IMHO. Plus, would he even want to be here without Monta and/or Curry?

What would be the point of getting Dwight if we give up Monta?

I dunno … like, instantly turning from a crappy perennial also-ran into one of the five or six best teams in the league?

I suppose there’s some small chance Monta’s presence would be a deciding factor in whether or not Dwight signs an extension here, but that’s total conjecture. My guts sense is that he’d probably want to bolt for greener pastures (CP3 and the Clips?) either way.

Then who would you have in the backcourt?

And how would it look any better than Orlando is currently? And if that’s the case, why would D. Howard sign an extension? We could trade Monta for Dwight this year, but next year we wouldn’t have either.

by bigkino217 on Jan 5, 2012 11:18 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah

but that’s not cutting it for Orlando right now, which is why he wants out, DWIGHT cares!!!

by Lew Ghost on Jan 5, 2012 5:48 PM PST up reply actions

And how would it look any better than Orlando is currently?

Well, assuming Curry stays, he’s a much better player than anyone on Orlando. He’s also, by most objective measures, a better player than Ellis (much more efficient scorer, better rebounder, better passer, has had a much more positive effect on his team the last two years). The spectre of chronic ankle problems might change that calculus a bit, but not enough to tilt the balance in Monta’s favor, imo.

Either way, to say you wouldn’t part with Monta for Howard is just absurd. You’re talking about one of the two most valuable players in the league v. a guy who’s lucky if he’s even an average starter at his position.

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Jan 6, 2012 5:25 AM PST up reply actions

Dorell Wright arguably lost this game for us

He led the league in 3’s made last year. He was arguably the leagues most improved player. Looking our roster, he should be the 3rd or 4th leading scorer on this team. How do you justify taking 2 shots in over 25 minutes a game, when Lee is having an off night and Curry is out?

Seriously, if he doesn’t want to shoot, sit his ass down. His defense isn’t so spectacular that he can justify not showing up on the offensive end of the quarter for over half the game.

by kyzah on Jan 4, 2012 9:11 PM PST reply actions   1 recs

I think this season will be doomed by the SOLE reason because our wing position is weak as shit.

Some would say the center position…but i think the tandem of beans/kwame is working OK…not the best but doable. Forward position: not bad but can be better.

BUT THE DAMN WING POSITION IS A GHOST. We are essentially playing 4v5 with the full roster all games till now. That is horrible. Monta and Curry are seriously good to have those wins over Bulls and Knicks. Speaks volume about Monta and Curry…more on Monta. This is unacceptable of Dorell. He seems so lost. Dorell Wrong should be his name until he finds the RIGHT turn. And when Curry or Monta is out…its essentially 3v5 against some good teams i might add. No Way in hell do we win ever unless lucks comes to our side.

I actually don’t think Monta is the type of guy to demand a trade. He’s just gonna pull through the strugles. He’s a competitor and wants to be the #1 option. I don’t see anywhere else where he will be considered the 1st option. He doesn’t wanna team-up with other superstars like the heat’s big 3 and the clips. I mean he has the logo tatted on his back. Haha.

DH12, bless his soul, also seemed to think Big Baby was a better player than Brandon Bass. That swap (from the Magic’s perspective) may have been the single stupidest move of the offseason.

But hey, if they’re dumb enough to do that, maybe they’re dumb enough to take Lee, Dorell, and Klay off our hands for a half-season’s rental of Howard?

why are people getting mad at D-wright?

he always was a jumpshooter and nothing else. people in Miami would say him growing those extra 4 or so inches were a detriment to his game because he was not built/molded to be a forward. this is a guy who got sent to the d-league in favor of Jason Kapono the year Miami won the title

yeah he made the most threes last year but he also took the most in the league by a good margin and wasnt close to being efficient either. He only hit about 37% and was 62nd in the league. so this is more of what you see is what you get. a 1-dimensional inefficient jumpshooter.

and actually almost half of his FGA’s were 3’s last year. and no shooter remains hot all year but i do agree that if he is going to be a black hole when he is this ice cold he needs to at least come off the bench

asking D-wright to dribble drive, asking Lee to post up, Steph walking: things we should not see anymore. unfortunately Lacob and Co. expected more from these two when they handed out the checks. i would like to see Dorell get involved in more off-ball action with screens and cuts for easy layups, anything to get him easy buckets instead of just sitting in the corner hoping his man is 10 feet away when he catches the ball

why are we mad at Dwrong???

because he is a starting 3 guard with big expectations. We would not be mad if he even gets back to shooting spot up threes. But guess what, he isnt connecting, lost all his confidence, swings the ball, defending is almost just bad.

Even if he defended well, and just gave us a few points im not mad, but he consistently passes up on shots because his confidence is at an all time low. Hes a starting 3 for a team that is poised to look up. Its just straight embarrassing. I know expectations were low when we got him, but we gave up pieces in the thought he would produce. WE ARE MAD AND THIS IS SPARTTTTTTTAAAA

Perhaps

Curry should take a more ‘spot up shooter’ type role with the team and let Monta or whomever other guard take the majority of the ball-handling duties. Maybe even come off the bench, all in the name of preserving that ankle.

I wish I never had to sleep.

David Lee gets it
LEE: "When you come in here after the game, the reality sets in. More than anything, you feel bad for Steph. He works so hard and does all of the right things. He just has a little bit of misfortune. … He needs to get his ankle right, whether that’s coming back for the L.A. game or waiting six weeks."

and this is what I hope the Dubs decision-makers understand

Nonetheless, sitting out an extended period helped last year. Curry sprained his ankle last year at San Antonio (on Dec. 8). He was out of action until Christmas Day. He didn’t miss any more games the rest of the way

Our franchise is the Monta-Curry backcourt! We keep that! We need to sit Curry for one two weeks to get him 100%!

We take our lumps in the meantime! Forget about winning expectations! Let the bench shake out! Get Curry back, take the best pieces, and, see the rest of the season from there!

Broken Wheel

The last 2 sprains looked like his ankle is just way to weak. Zero contact on both injuries and the thing just buckles. The one last night was the worst. Moving forward and your toe slips so you twist your ankle, just show there is zero strength to finish the season. This is real bad news for the long term.

Welcome Nate, just in time. :-/
