Will Curry ever be the same again?

As of tonight's San Antonio lost, Steph has injured the same right ankle that plagued him last season three times already this season.

The first time was preseason against the Kings, after which he had some time off between games. Second time was against the Bulls, he left the game and then sat against the Knicks. Then, three games later, he injures it again tonight. While I realize some of these were situational injuries and not directly caused (like coming down on someone's foot against the Bulls), the organization needs to proceed with caution from here on out if they want Curry to remain healthy. Furthermore, we don't Curry's ankle to become a Brandon Roy-type knee problem.. the kind that haunt and ultimately kill a young and prosperous career.

Personally, I think Curry needs to sit about 10 games to make sure this ankle is really ready to go for this season. Strengthen it, ice it, rest it, do whatever you can for it. I would rather see him out for X amount of games healing his ankle early this season than see his whole season or career go to waste by continuing to strain it.

Thoughts?

He had an extended offseason of rest, custom made shoes and surgery

The ankle just sucks, I don’t think a few games rest will fix that

RIP Al Davis

He didn't have custom made shoes...

… he went to Nike and they did extensive testing. He left with a different model of production Nike’s…not a custom pair. He had new shoes the same day.

The Warriors have a qualified medical staff

It amuses me to see so many people on Curry’s injury saying: he just needs to rest it! More ice! New Shoes!

There are people who get paid a lot of money to make the calls on Curry’s ankle. I find it hard to believe that they didn’t think of “resting it” or “icing it”. Additionally, I trust Curry’s judgement on whether or not the ankle feels comfortable enough to play. If he really didn’t feel like his ankle was good to go in an nba game, I don’t think you’d see him playing.

Bottom line, Curry’s history shows that there really is no timetable you can put on him and feel 100% sure that it is “fully healed”. The better question to ask would be, how many games are you willing to sit him and lose before he and the medical staff feels he is rested enough that you try his ankle again? You might as well take a dart and go throw it at a calender.

Well, obviously there’s a medical staff. It’s not Curry just saying “It feels fine, put me in coach!” …there are more people at work than just that. No amount of ice, rest, or even new shoes will fix his ankle. Bottom line is that his ankle sucks and it will continue to hurt his playing time and career.

I’d sit him all season if I thought that would help. His health is more important to both his and our future than our W-L record this year.

Not exactly my point

What I meant was that you could sit him the entire season, bring him back and have him sprain in his first game in. At this point, there is arguably no telling how much time Steph needs for his ankle. All you can go with is with how his ankle feels at any given time. Before he sprained it in the preseason game, Curry said his ankle felt 100% healed for the first time in a long time. An hour later he sprains it during a regular basketball move.

So how long do you want to sit him for? If he and the medical staff feel a week from now that hes ready to go, do you sit him an extra week to make sure? A month? What timetable do you put on his ankle? It’s all guesswork at this point, pick a date a month from now on your calendar and throw a dart at it. That’s as good as any other way of determining if he;s had enough time to heal.

depends on who the medical staff is? I’d want the best surgeon in the world to look at it and see if they can strengthen it. If they can fix MLB pitchers arms they should be able to fix an ankle. Montay’s was torn up pretty bad and it has been ok.

the problem with your logic is that you are ignoring the team's priorities
There are people who get paid a lot of money to make the calls on Curry’s ankle. I find it hard to believe that they didn’t think of "resting it" or "icing it"

Not that I agree with it, but it is pretty clear that from a purely health viewpoint, he should absolutely be resting that leg more than he has. There are varying degrees of being “good to go in an NBA game” and I think that the team so far is emphasizing “good to go” versus “good”

agree with this though:

Bottom line, Curry’s history shows that there really is no timetable you can put on him and feel 100% sure that it is "fully healed"

If it was me (and I’m no doctor) I would want to take an invasive look at that ankle (arthroscopic exam). My personal (again, non-medical) opinion is that he needs direct surgical intervention and extended down time to heal

You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.
He totally needs to stop what he’s doing and get the best doctor to do the best procedure whatever that might be. The short term is not what we care about here.

yeah, I'm no medical expert, but I can hear the "tinkle" of broken glass as well as anyone

but as a consistent weekend basketballer, I have seen my fair share of the ol’ glass ankle syndrome.

once it starts, you gotta take time, or it’s just going to keep getting painfully rolled.
I do want to see some sexy ankle pics of Steph though. How swollen? Is it black and blue?

Even wearing an ankle brace at this point will only minimize the severity, not really stop the ankle from rolling (based on my experience).

What he needs more than surgery

Is for a running specialist to teach him how to run and shuffle properly.

Additionally, I trust Curry’s judgement on whether or not the ankle feels comfortable enough to play.

I don’t trust a players own judgment in this situation even a little bit. Players are competitive. They want to play. Anyone who’s been a player themselves before understands that. Most of the time, they are not going to make the best long term decision for themselves. Furthermore, though it may not apply in this case because sprained ankles are such common injuries, if you have an injury you don’t have much experience before, you really don’t know just by feel how healthy you are.

scumbag nba.com

keeps trying to show me replay of curry injury after every game recap…. GTFO

I think we should ...

REST CURRY… tank some games… Forget about the playoffs this season and get a high lottery pick (1-7 protected) and look forward to next year. There’s no point in trading Curry because his stock has gone down since the recurring ankle injury and he needs to play consistently before the demand goes UP again…

Well Curry ever be the same again? Talk about being dramatic…

He's toast

Get him healthy enough to fool another GM and trade him ASAP.
