Dwight Howard to the Bay Scenarios

Okay so we've heard the recent news about the Warriors trying to obtain Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic. One thing for sure is for this to happen we will have to give them Stephen Curry (and his injury woes) or Monta Ellis (How's that case of his going?). So I've came up with two different scenarios that I believe are realistic in order for us to get possibly the only franchise cornerstone center in the NBA but before that I will discuss the pros and cons of trading for Dwight Howard:

Image_medium

Height w/o ShoesHeight w/shoesWeightWingspanStanding ReachBody FatNo Step VertMax VertBench PressLane Agility3/4 Court SprintClass Rank
6' 9" 6' 10.25" 240 7' 4.5" 9' 3.5" NA 30.5 35.5 7 11.21 3.14 29

(I think you can add about 30lbs to the weight listed above...)

PROS:

For one thing, we get an All-Star dominant big man who can put this team on the map. Not to mention, with Dwight in the Western Conference we will possibly stop Andrew Bynum from ever being voted into the All-Star game. That's one battle we can always win against the Lakers. Not to mention, we're are a mediocre team on defense right now so imagine what we can do with a defensive minded anchor to play along side guys who are really just not that good on that side of the ball. His presence and impact alone could make this team a contender especially if we are allowed to keep certain players in the deal.

CONS:
I think the worst thing that can happen is Dwight leaves in free agency leaving us with nothing but a different rebuilding project most likely forcing Lacob to clean up the front office AGAIN. But if we are left with the few pieces I would want us to keep we should be fine 2-3 years from now.

WHAT I THINK:
What I think the team should do is make sure Dwight does for us what Chris Paul did for the Clippers and sign an agreement saying that he will pickup his option giving us two years to see what we can do with him as an unit. So if he does walk, at least us Warrior fans can say we had Dwight Howard on our team for more than a few months.

THE TRADE SCENARIOS:

Here is the first one with a trade built around Steph Curry:

Gsw1_medium

Warriors get: Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu

Magic Get: Steph Curry, Andris Biedrins, Klay Thompson/Dorell Wright, & other considerations.

Why would this trade happen:
This trade would happen because for one thing, Otis Smith takes all of our leftovers. He's been doing it for years and there is no need to stop now. And he would do this because he gets a young guard in Steph that he can build around if his ankle is up to part, a center who is still young in Andris Biedrins, Klay Thompson, who we came somehow convince to Otis Smith that he is Brandon Roy with good knees. The only thing I can see stop this trade from happening is the fact that the Magic could fear Curry's ankle problems is similar to that of Grant Hill.
Now the scenario involving Monta Ellis:

Monta-ellis-600_medium

Warriors get: Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu, Q. Rich/J. Rich

Magic Get: Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins, Ekpe Udoh, and other considerations.

Why would this happen:

This trade would happen because for one thing, Otis Smith just love former Warriors. He also said he wants some seasoned veterans that can keep his team competitive. I think Monta fills that void quite nicely. I think this trade is more likely to happen as I really do not see the Magic gambling on Steph's ankle leaving us with his issue.

X-FACTOR:

Jeremy Tyler (C, PF) - 20 years old, 6'10, 260lbs

Ap-201112282256825789524

Height w/o ShoesHeight w/shoesWeightWingspanStanding ReachBody FatNo Step VertMax VertBench PressLane Agility3/4 Court SprintClass Rank
6' 9" 6' 10.5" 262 7' 5" 9' 2.5" 13.4 28.0 33.5 10 11.26 3.29 NA

I know a lot of you probably think I'm out of my mind saying that the kid that hasn't even played 10 minutes in the NBA is an X-Factor in a superstar blockbuster but he is. Jeremy Tyler has the hype and story that someone as silly as Otis Smith might want to be thrown into the trade and we might just do it in order to get Superman. Or our organization can be silly and not thrown him in as insurance in case Dwight decides to ditch town after we land him. I hope we get to keep JT either way. Dwight would be a great mentor for the young man as he can learn all about Dwight's preparation learning more about the game. Just imagine a frontcourt a year or two from now with Dwight Howard and Jeremy Tyler (with Lee's contract becoming shorter he'll become easier to trade).

OUTCOME:

In all honesty, I see the Magic being stupid holding onto Dwight until the end of the year letting him walk for nothing but possibly a trade exception. It's going to be a disaster on their side as I see him coming to the West Coast. I also think where ever Dwight go, Deron Williams will follow, so if we were to trade Steph for Dwight, Deron Williams would have a spot on this team. Only question is has he made up with Monta from that little altercation they had the last time they played in Utah last year?!

DH12 wants to be with Monta

Enough said. Keeping Monta gives us a higher chance of keeping him, regardless of which guard you prefer so you keep Monta.

Trade machine is down so I had to use trade checker (eh)

http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/5971172

Gasol has been somewhat of a shell of himself a midst the trade rumors in LA and Orlando has asked for him and veterans that can help the team win now . Lee, Biedrins and Gasol help them rebuild that front line for the now , they DW as well

We get DH12, Hedo and QRich (money reasons)

LAL gets Steph (who they offered Gasol for during the CP3 talks) and Duhon for only Gasol

Curry in the triangle is a scary thought.

If they ran the triangle

Mike Brown is the coach

Over-analyzing I know but...

I would think that LA would want one of Orlando’s big guys if they were shipping out Gasol probably someone like Daniel Orton. The big problem of course is that Orlando is trying to get rid of Hedo’s bad contract, so why would they take Lee’s (arguably) worse contract?

Other than that I like the idea. Starting line up of Monta, Hedo, DH, Udoh, and CJ wouldn’t look too bad. And if Dwight decides to leave, we aren’t drowning in bad contracts as we’ll have traded away Andris and Lee. So if Hoopshype is correct with the salaries that puts us at around 30 mil worth of contracts signed for next year, lots of flexibility. Even better, if he does resign for something like Miami’s big three did at around 15 mil their first year, that leaves us close to another 15 mil to sign someone like Deron Williams.

Ah, pipe-dreams are fun aren’t they?

by Maxwell87 on Jan 6, 2012 1:34 PM PST up reply actions

Give them Big baby

I couldn’t put him in the trade cause he was just signed . I just forgot about Orton though

They want guys to help them win right now, hopefully they think Lee is that.

Crowded frontcourt with Andris, DLee, Gasol, Anderson, Davis. Though I guess that could be a good thing. And the thing about Lee is that they already have one on that team named Ryan Anderson. Would Lee come off the bench? Thats a lot of money for a bench player

by Maxwell87 on Jan 6, 2012 4:22 PM PST up reply actions

Doesn’t matter what we think, the Magic are going to want Curry over Monta anyways.

Remember

This is the guy who wanted Big Baby more then Bass. I don’t think he gives one about stat ratings

Dwight would be cool with it after he realizes that Curry is much better than Monta.

I heard he doesn't like music.

by Reverend_Randy on Jan 8, 2012 3:50 PM PST up reply actions

believe me...Dwight would love to play with Curry...

he only mentioned a guy like Ellis because Ellis has been rumored and is available in trade…..IF Curry was a guy that was constantly in trade rumors like Ellis has been the last couple years, Dwight would have named Curry….people are overreacting to this “Desire” to play with Ellis

by JimBarnett2KevinGarnett on Jan 8, 2012 8:41 PM PST up reply actions

Orlando will trade Dwight this season because they can't promise they'll get another superstar to play alongside him

Then, Dwight will go to the Lakers and somehow CP3 will wind up there, too.

But this logic, I love:

“Not to mention, with Dwight in the Western Conference we will possibly stop Andrew Bynum from ever being voted into the All-Star game. That’s one battle we can always win against the Lakers.” You had me at hello.

Hey Steph, how many more times are you gonna roll your ankle before we trade you?

In all seriousness, poor guy… Figures we get a talented player through the draft and his ankle is made of glass.

WHAT!??!?!?!?!?!?!

When DH leaves how will we be fine 2 or 3 years from now.....

…after loosing our young future talent(Curry) and 2 years of draft picks and leaving us will a horrible contract to live with over the next 2/3 years. Doesnt make sense to me unless an extension is signed…

Seems to me that it is more about the owners showing that they are willing to swing for the fences have a playoff year and calculating that a rebuilding is enevitable anyway….hmmm ,that actually does make some sense after all…

If we dumped Beans and Lee in a deal we'd actually be shedding a good amount of dead weight salary

And we’d be clearing the roster where we could likely suck for a top pick or rebuild through FA’s

by dubzfan on Jan 6, 2012 11:08 AM PST up reply actions

If we cant convince him to stay by the deadline

then trade him for other young pieces and picks in what is a very good deep draft. It’s a win win.

Can I get some clarification?

I might be missing something on the new CBA or something? But Im seeing some absurd trade scenarios on GSoM and other boards. I see ones like Curry, Klay, Udoh and Beans for Dwight and Hedo? Did I miss somewhere where we can acquire that much salary will only giving up change in return? And everyone’s throwing picks around also? Can we now trade our future pick even tho we have the next first rounder conditionally promised? Thanks!

by esco41510 on Jan 6, 2012 11:32 AM PST reply actions

It was mentioned through Yahoo Sports that we still have a TE along with a little bit of cap space since we didn’t land a quality big and only signed Kwame. It also says we’re also allowed now to offer the draft pick after the one the Jazz currently own.

by iHypeTV on Jan 6, 2012 11:39 AM PST up reply actions

Ah. I see.

If that worked that would be great to have DLee still here and JRich back! Thanks!

by esco41510 on Jan 6, 2012 11:41 AM PST up reply actions

Kwame's contract helps with trade packages

Here’s one theory: we were willing to sign Kwame to a $7M one-year contract specifically to be used as a low-risk trade chip. Not because someone wants him, but because he’s an OK filler contract (he expires at EOY) who can be used to help make contracts match in a big trade. Especially if we’re trading for another team’s center…

Add Kwame to that trade package (Curry, Klay, Udoh & Beans) and now the contracts start to look a lot closer to matching…

BTW

Not knocking your trade scenario, I mean absurd in the moneys being exchanged.

by esco41510 on Jan 6, 2012 11:39 AM PST reply actions

question

would you guys still give up Curry for Howard even if Howard leaves at the end of the season?

Kobe: "Listen, if you told me at the beginning of the year that we’ve got two games at home to win a championship, yeah, I’ll take that shit"

by hrghori on Jan 6, 2012 10:23 PM PST reply actions

Who do you trade with Curry that clears cap? Curry is not a cap space guy. Our only capspace guys are Ellis, Lee and Biedrins.

I heard he doesn't like music.

Lee and Beans in straight dumps

Or involved in the DH12 trade

RIP Al Davis

by dubzfan on Jan 9, 2012 7:10 PM PST up reply actions

Looking at this FA class if we dumped Lee in Andris in some sort of deal with or without DH12 there is a lot of options

PG’s: DWill, Westbrook, Lawson, Kidd, Felton, KirkH and Andre Miller. So half a season of Monta at PG seems fine if we nab one of these guys, DH12 would definitely attract them . Who knows maybe we don’t need one and Monta t PG is fine

SG’s: Fernandez, EGordon,West and Fields. I doubt Gordon is able to leave Nola since they will lock him up but otherwise these are some decent role players

SF’s: Beasley, Batum (!), Barnes, Gallinari and CJ Miles. Again some decent role players

PF’s: Love, Jamison, AR, Kaman. Eh not much here since I doubt Love leaves Minny yet

C’s: DH12, Lopez, McGee, Okur, O’neal, RLopez and Hawes. If Dwight walks we could probably sign a decent replacement for a year or two or a backup if we don’t keep Kwame

RIP Al Davis

by dubzfan on Jan 8, 2012 12:23 AM PST reply actions

this is the reason the Charlie Bell Amnesty was the most pathetic move in the ENTIRE NBA this pass offseason...

if you aquire a superstar via trade like Howard, you Amnesty Lee in the offseason (or Biedrins) and sign Deron Williams to play with DH12…just one of the many possible scenarios by saving the amnesty.

Can I proposition a 2nd X- factor in these trade talks??

X Factor #2 – The notorious Dave Twardzik (he still works in Orlando’s front office right?)…You never know how bad or clueless a move a franchise can make when Dave Twardzik walks the halls in the front office…The Otis Smith + Dave Twardzik combo is very intriguing…time to swindle these a-hats.
