We've already been over the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers aren't true rivals for the Golden State Warriors, but that doesn't mean that folks around GSoM don't care a little bit more about beating our more successful Pacific Division foes from down south.
At least a few of you were even happy when the Warriors beat the Lakers in summer league.
So what better way to start the preseason - even if it ultimately doesn't mean much more than a chance for some of the youngsters to get their feet wet - than with a game against the Lakers?
While we've all been waiting to see the Warriors new acquisitions playing together as a unit, but the Lakers have a few new faces of their own. Although major offseason acquisition Dwight Howard will reportedly not play, as described in yesterday's links, a couple of other veteran additions are slated to play. Former Warrior Antawn Jamison is back in the Western Conference with the Lakers and Steve Nash will be making his debut in a Lakers uniform, not to mention a number of others.
For the Warriors, we know for sure that center Andrew Bogut's debut will be put off even longer but the big question of the day is whether Warriors point guard Stephen Curry will play in today's game: as widely reported yesterday, Warriors second-year coach Mark Jackson is considering sitting his star point guard out for one of the Warriors' two back-to-back games to open the preseason. Given that neither game will be televised, it's probably safe to say that most of us would rather him sit today's game and play on Monday at Oracle Arena when those of us in the Bay Area will at least have a chance to see him.
Whatever it takes to keep these guys ready for the regular season, I guess.
But ultimately, this game is more about seeing the young guys in action than anything else...so if there are any GSoM'ers down in Fresno who happen to catch the game, feel free to give us a breakdown of what you saw.
