Warriors vs. Pacers: Postgame Interviews (12/1/12) by Warriors
Mark Jackson
On Stephen Curry:
“Give our ownership and our front office a lot of credit because there were some people that were saying ‘we know he’s a good player, but let’s hold off on signing him’ – we knew exactly who he was as a basketball player, person and face of this franchise. He’s playing on a level that we thought he would play at. Leading his team, making plays down the stretch, defending – it’s great to see.”
On Team's Defensive Strategy:
“We remained the same. We wanted to force them away from the paint area. We were playing against two big time post players in (Roy) Hibbert and (David) West; those were two different animals that we’ve been facing recently. Not many teams have two guys like that. There came a point where we wanted to make them uncomfortable and hit them a little a bit by double teaming and showing that we were crisp with our rotations. Our guys did a good job of mixing of when to go and when not to go.”
On Jarrett Jack's Half-Court Shot:
“I’m going to tell you the truth, the thing I appreciated the most about it after playing for 17 years, after being an analyst and now as a coach, I’ve seen guys not take that shot because they did not want to mess up their field goal percentage. I’ve always thought how selfish of a play that is. For him to take that shot, it shows what he’s about – it’s about the team.”
On if They Were Running Specific Plays for Jarrett Jack:
“You look at the reaction from the bench, you look at (Jarrett) Jack’s reaction with the pose and the camera shot - I think anytime you don’t finish out the play defensively it can take the wind from you. That certainly took place at the end of that quarter.”
Stephen Curry
On Team's Second-Half Effort:
“The third quarter has been our emphasis. If we can play in the third quarter and not give a team big runs we’re able to kind of separate ourselves and not give up a lead in the fourth. The times when we’ve had to come from behind we haven’t shot very well so we like to put an emphasis on the third quarter.”
On his Assists Totals in Recent Games:
“You just have to be aggressive whatever happens. Each play you’re trying to make the right play whether it’s getting open for a shot or making the right play to get it to somebody else that’s open to make a shot. We’ve had good offensive rhythm the last couple games so we’ve got to keep that going.”
David Lee
On how the Warriors are Finding Success:
“We’ve played very well and we’ve had a couple great wins in a row. I feel like everyone is playing their role. Festus (Ezeli) and Andris (Biedrins) are doing a good job in the paint. Nobody is playing perfect right now, we’re making mistakes but we’re pushing through and covering for one another and doing what it takes to win.”
On the Little Things it Takes to Win:
“Jack’s shot was amazing. At the end of the second quarter they were on a fast break that could have cut it to three but we intercepted the pass and get a layup to make it seven at half. I feel like those are little plays that would have won a game last year. We would battle all the way back and they would make a little play at the end of the quarter. I feel like we’ve closed out quarters well this year. We had another great start to the quarter tonight. In games we’ve lost this year that’s been our Achilles heel, the third quarter, so all of our guys – young guys, veteran guys – everyone is chipping in right now and covering for each other, and that’s what it’s going to take to win games.”
On the Team's Chemistry:
“It’s great. It’s just a huge thing. You talk about winning and losing in the NBA and rarely are you going to win or lose by 25 points, usually it comes down to the little plays. I think a lot of times the team that comes out with the victory is the team with the better chemistry. Last year we were awful in games that were close and this year we’ve been pretty good so we have to keep improving on the little teams.”
Jarrett Jack
On His Half Court Buzzer Beater:
“It was just a heave. I just let it go and I actually thought it was going to go off the backboard. It was a crazy play, I think I’ve been due for one all year. I’ve had them rim in and out and I’ve launched a few of them.”
On the Team's Rebounding Effort:
“It means a tremendous amount. Our team has put in an incredible effort. They have great big guys in Roy Hibbert and David West. They have tremendous athleticism on the wing in Gerald Green and Paul George and Lance Stephenson, and we just met the challenge. We’re a team that when we take the court we feel like we can play with anybody in this league.”
