Looking back: Lin: More than just Hype-PAWS40
FanPost I wrote in August of 2010 claiming Lin had a good shot at becoming an above pro... Interesting to look back.

SMARTS FAULT, LACOB GETS THE ASSIST
sure Lin would not have made it in our system possibly, but the bottom line is you let talent like this slip through your fingers and we lose out. Look at what he is now. If you think you would like that talent here and now, then we needed to create the right environment to discover the talent..
Jackson just may do the same with Jenkins and Tyler . So, far he seems to be giving Klay a chance.. We must evaluate our players by whatever means needed. Even IF it means losing a couple games..
It wasn't Lacob's fault for trying to get a center...
It’s smarts fault for not even trying Lin. Remember, Lin would not be in the NBA without Lacob.
Gambino is a mastermind...

I hear you but, Lacob could have directed Smart to give Lin more of a chance...
Perhaps that would be stepping into dangerous micro managing of his coach and perhaps Lacob could be excused a tad but if im Lacob I would express a SERIOUS discontent with charlie bell and meanwhile knowing that LIn played well in a small sample and yet is not gettign a proper eval.. To let that kinda talent drip through your fingers is the stuff bottom feeders are made of..

The Mavs and Lakers wanted Lin also
He signed with the Warriors because he grew up in Palo Alto.

Where can one review these PAWS40 spreadsheets?
I’d be interested to review this over the past 15 drafts.

I remember that post. How did the other last season rookies with high PAWs40 numbers work out? Is there any reason to think that the stat and Lin’s improvement are more than a coincidence?
I still think the team did nothing wrong by not keeping him as there was nothing in his predraft performances that hinted at his recent play. Sometimes the best decisions turn out to be wrong but that don’t make the process wrong. This is kinda like the opposite of the JRich trade where the process was wrong no matter how it turned out.
It’s a done deal. What we need to work on now is how are we gonna stop him when we play the knicks?

the process of using our amnesty on Bell and waiving Lin for a pie in the sky shot at signing DJ...
was wrong.
J-RIDAH: Its not 1 player in this draft better than Monta or Lee. Anthony Davis is no different than Al Farouq Aminu. Andre Drummond could be good but he is not impressive at this point at all besides his size. This draft is hella overated.
(JaVale) Mcgee is better than anybody in this draft.
the process of using our amnesty on Bell
Was wrong, his contract was not worth enough . We shoulda kept the amnesty for a larger contract. Waiving Lin was not wrong as he was not that important at the time, it was a decision that didn’t require much effort one way or the other as we had other young backup guards. Making arguments now based on what we know now is not the same thing as making arguments now based on what we knew then. So they were wrong on a small decision about a minor player, it happens now move on, it’s not like they blew a major decision on a major player, he was our 3rd string point guard. If they spent all their time fixating on players like Lin was at that time I’d be really worried about them.

They waived him specifically to free up enough money to go after DJ. So, yeah, it was wrong. I didn’t think they should go after DJ anyway, and I didn’t think they would get him if even if they tried. LAC was clearly going to match any reasonable offer, and the Warriors didn’t make him a crazy offer by today’s standards.
So to sum up, you think it was a fine move to waive Lin, because you think it was a good idea to go after DJ. Not everyone agreed with that at the time or now.

I never said that, I didn’t mention him but I didn’t actually know enough about jordon to make a decision on him. It’s two separate issues, I said the move was not wrong because Lin was not important to our team. He was not the Lin starting at NYK he was the Lin sitting behind Montay, Binky, Klank,Tick, and Tack. It was a big ho-hum decision, nothing to worry about in the overall scheme of things. I’m about as worried about it as I am of not buying a lottery ticket last week because someone somewhere won money.
Now us not having bigs to control the boards and paint do worry me.

Thanks for posting this.
It is really interesting to read the comments : )
Warriors Drafts
At least we didn’t screw it up as bad as the Joe Smith no.1 overall pick, you know we could’ve had KG, McDyess or Shreed, 3 All-star, 2 All-NBA and 1 HOFer
Or as bad as...
… trading Parrish and the pick for McHale to Boston for the right to take Joe Barely Cares #1 overall. There was something I read browsing through a Celtics book that said the Warriors had a hand in helping the Celtics get Bird a year earlier, and I’ve blocked it out.
"Your curses do not compare to those of Houston fans or Detroit fans, and especially not to those of fans from the northside of Chicago. You are not Hamlet. You are Valerie Bertinelli. Your victim act is schlocky, and totally unconvincing. You fancy yourself tormented. You are merely insecure."

I went back and read many comments in the thread. Some dummies going on and on about how advanced stats are irrelevant. John Wall looked worse in college than Lin, so one guy says that proves advanced stats are garbage. LOL Of course, anyone that understands basketball understands you need a lot more than just athleticism. As I pointed out repeatedly, Lin (apart from being pretty athletic and having good height at PG) has TREMENDOUS composure. That’s huge at PG.
I'm the soul brotha' like no other!

Well, most of said dumb comments came from good ‘ole LarryLegendofOracle, who until his disappearance was an avid user of the “PPG = Superstar” argument. I still have nightmares of those debates I had with him regarding OJ Mayo and his place as a “Top 10 SG” in LarryLegend’s eyes.
