Mark Jackson
On Ekpe Udoh:
"He was great, absolutely great. I thought one time he rushed a jump shot, and that's the same shot I told him I want him to shoot this summer - but he was great. Offensively on the block, aggressive shooting the jumper, all over the place defensively and stepping up to the challenge by defending Blake Griffin. He gave us a presence and I'm just extremely happy for him because he never made an excuse all season long. Had an opportunity tonight and truly took advantage of it."

On Ekpe Udoh Possibly Earning Starting Minutes
"The way he's played the last month or so has been great and tonight was the icing on the cake. I thought he had a couple of quarters, during that month, where he didn't have the same presence. But I love his demeanor, love his professionalism and I have confidence in him - he was spectacular tonight."

On Execution In The Fourth Quarter:
"At the end of the day, we took care of the basketball and we got stops. I believe the score was 97-95 Clippers and we got into lockdown mode - we made life tough. When you play great defense teams can score, but we buckled down and closed out the game the way good teams do. What I loved about it was that we closed possessions by pursing the basketball - that was the best part of the night. We got it done defensively and took care of the basketball down the stretch and we can grow from that."

On Dominic McGuire's Defense:
"It's who he is and he understands that. Some guys just have a gift to do different things on the basketball court, and his gift is, he is a lockdown defender. That doesn't mean a guy can't go by him and score, but I'll take the odds on his ability to stay connected and contest shots. He's exceptional at it and we knew that right away. We are fortunate to have him because he was another guy at home ready for his phone to ring and he came in from day one and was a presence on the defensive end. To his credit, it's awfully tough never knowing when you are going to be called on - he's a pro. I don't think he'll be sitting at home waiting for his phone to ring next year."
David Lee
On Finishing The Game:
"I think we got stops defensively and got rebounds. When you do that it takes the pressure of the offense, you don't need to win the game on scoring. We had a couple of great individual's defensive plays and team defensive plays. We were able to get some stops and rebounds. That was the key to the win tonight."

On Ekpe Udoh:
"He didn't try to do too much. When we threw it down to him inside he made solid moves and when he got open jump shots he shot them, made a couple of them and he played great defense like he always does. Really, really happy for him. Let's hope he's feeling ok after getting hit."
Ekpe Udoh
On Seizing The Opportunity:
"Coach always tells me to be confident and shoot that shot. I just went out there and my teammates helped me out a lot with the open shot because everybody else was focused on their man. I'm glad I have those type of teammates."

On How He Prepared To Start
"I'm just ready. It was a big opportunity. I was just telling myself that. Before the game I even got nervous, I got butterflies going crazy. It was a big opportunity to help my teammates as much as possible."

That most be the understatement of the season!

We finally got someone inside at center that can score, defend, and, yes, rebound!

lets not get ahead of ourselves

it’s one game. he’s still shooting pretty awful on the season. he clearly makes us better though with his defense

of course

i’m just saying, let’s not count ekpe yet as a center that can “score, defend, and rebound”. he is a great defender and his rebounding may not look great but he helps our team rebounding. i’m just not ready to call him a scorer yet

Didn't you say that about Lin also?

I think Ekpe missed two shots all game, and he was a terror on the offensive boards…

one game outbursts happen all the time

lin has done it for a lot of games in a row now. it’s pretty clear he’s a capable scorer. ekpe has done it for one game.

didn't see game but just saw Udoh's line...

…does it go without saying that Udoh should be starting over Biedrins and getting 30 min per game going forward?…seems so to me.

by salary_cap on Feb 20, 2012 10:26 PM PST up reply actions

It should go without saying, but I wouldn’t assume that is going to happen. I wouldn’t expect this type of production out of Udoh every night, but a halfway decent night by Udoh is still better than Biedrins.

by Pippen on Feb 20, 2012 11:12 PM PST up reply actions

I voted Udoh, but, it was hard,

because, IQ, you also had that choice “that’s what a center looks like”!

by dinohealth on Feb 20, 2012 10:27 PM PST reply actions

I know, I know

I came up with that line during the game, and I felt I HAD to get it into the poll no matter what.

Haha

then consider it one of those tough choices that build your character :P

by IQofaWarrior on Feb 20, 2012 10:30 PM PST up reply actions

but the game got soooo much more intense, I had to come up with something else.

D.Lee spoke w. Roye post game

he thought K.Martin nearly broke his arm on a hack ; had x-rays taken at half time. Lee made sure after giving Udoh his due that he gave Biedrins a hearty, hope he’s feeling better ! everyone loves loves Griffin, but would he lead his team anywhere without Paul or Billups — does he have the smarts for it ?

Was it Jordan who made sure Udoh felt some pain at the end, as an added reward for winning ? Curry got a T telling the ref he was getting mugged by Evans. we’ll see how the bullies do when they’re at home in the remaining games against them.

On the Clippers blog, about every 3 posts is about how the refs screwed THEM. Not that the refs were horrible both ways, but they had it out to get them. How can a team with Blake AND CP3 ever complain about refs?

Udoh offensively was nice, but the Warriors as a whole got dominated on the boards. Half of Udoh’s offensive boards came on bouncers. Evans/Jordan/Griffin dominated the offensive glass, Udoh only had 2 defensive boards all game.

Still love the win

by dhp318 on Feb 20, 2012 10:33 PM PST reply actions

I would not say they dominated!

Slighty more efficient. I think they missed two fewer shots than we did, and they pulled down 17 offensive boards to our 14.

by dinohealth on Feb 20, 2012 10:40 PM PST up reply actions

See what a half decent center can do for us? So lets stop talkin about 11 mill Monta.

Now just imagine if Udoh could actually learn to grab a few more defensive rebounds.

looks like udoh banged knees with Foye? I can’t tell, the number on the jersey is a little fuzzy.

the game was a little physical, i wouldn’t be surprised if it was intentional with the way Udoh contributed to the win tonight. I’m mean from the video, he was the only clipper running back as Monta drove to the hoop. The other clippers were trying to go for the rebound.

by adoboguy on Feb 20, 2012 11:09 PM PST up reply actions

After watching that play on the gumby highlights

I don’t think it was intentional. I think he saw Curry moving out to the top of the 3 with no defenders near him as Monta drove, and he desperately ran in that direction to try to stop a possible Monta kick to Curry for the wide open 3.

by IQofaWarrior on Feb 21, 2012 12:34 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, it was Foye and not intentional. He was trying to quickly rotate towards Curry and happened to run right through Udoh’s legs :(

I saw Udoh lying on the ground as the cameras started panning towards our bench after the timeout. I couldn’t really celebrate Monta’s shot, and was thinking “uh oh” the entire time during the break. It just really sucked considering Udoh’s impact that game and if we were to lose him for a while, I don’t think I could be happy with the win.

I suppose this is who Klay is

A shooter who can come off screens. He can get hot and he can get cold. He’s not anywhere near Ray Allen or Reggie Miller though.

It's awesome to see how bad that front court of the Clippers is at defending.

Blake Griffin likes to stand around and reach as people run by him for easy layups. Jordan goes flying at every pump fake.

It's weird. They have defensive talent.

But they are not as good on defense as you would expect

It seems to me like Griffin is not interested in defending, and Jordan is always looking for a highlight reel block.

Both guys seem more interested in making Sportscenter’s top 10 plays of the night than anything else.

Vinny DelNegro

he’s not a good coach

they should seriously fire him and make CP3 the player/coach

Does anyone else

feel like Matt Steinmetz is extra negative? Every time I read or hear something from him, he has a real dislike for the Warriors is seems to me. At first I didn’t really care, but now it is just too much. I think it is out of pocket. He just gives no credit or is extra reluctant to do so.

He's been doing the same thing since the mid/late 90s...

although he used to rip on the Warriors much more then. Then again, he had lots of reason to.

I’m glad the media is critical…even to the point of cynicism.
This franchise has not been well-run for a while. And the new ownership came in promising all sorts of madness (playoffs).

I never got why their promised playoffs

Warriors fans have heard that same spiel from Cohan. We’re trained to be suspicious of any “promises” from the front office.

Good to see that Udoh’s late injury isn’t anything to worry about. It’d suck to see him go down during a career game.

I was trying to figure it out, too.

This doesn’t help, but at the end MW said, alright! LOL

I figure they were gonna go hang out somewhere afterwards. During the game, either Barnett or Fitz mentioned that they were from the same city/area so they are pretty close.

Even if we knew

we wouldn’t be able to decipher it. I can’t imagine the accent Monta probably talks with around people actually from Mississippi

Thanks for all the great stuff, IQ. Well done, as usual.

just great to follow all those postgame interviews. So many tidbits that help you round out the picture of what is going one, and what the perspectives are by the main actors.

nate robinson is wearing a beavis and butthead shirt hahaha

What happened with Legos, they used to be simple. Oh come on, I know you know what I’m talking about, Legos were simple. Something happened out here while I was inside. Harry Potter Legos, Star Wars Legos, complicated kits, tiny little blocks. I mean I’m not saying its bad I just wanna know what happened.
