Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

I'm curious to know if anyone here thinks it would be a good idea to trade for him. On one hand, he seems to have talent that is just not meshing with the ATL roster, as well as good size at the 3. On the other hand, as the article points out, Williams has gotten regular starter minutes since his early years in the league and has yet to truly do anything with them.

This trade works in the trade machine: DWright and Andris for Williams and Pachulia.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=73u37ax

The Warriors gain nothing in terms of cap relief, but they gain Williams who at the very least would be an equivalent to Dorell with better size for his position, and a solid backup center in Pachulia who could solidify the need for a big off the bench(even if he starts his production would most likely far exceed Beans).

What do you guys think?

I'm really curious if his rebounding bump is meaningful.

He strikes me as a pretty average player.

If his rebounding bump is based on something on than a SSS fluke, he might be a useful piece for us. I wouldn’t give up a ton for him, but a good-rebounding SF could really help us. On the other hand, this season is a clear outlier in that department so it’s hard to tell.

You don’t get him expecting him to become worthy of the second pick. You get him because you figure he’s exactly the guy he’s been for the last couple of years.

But I don’t see any particular reason that he’d be an upgrade over Dorell, who’s been a positive this season despite his peculiar shooting year.

Dorell > Marvin, better D, shoots the 3 at a higher percentage, and passes better than Marvin.

HOWEVER, if we can do that above trade, Dorell/Biedrins for Marvin/Pachulia, I’d TOTALLY go for it. A slight downgrade at SF for a huge upgrade at C is fine by me. And I think if Pachulia came here, he’d become the starting C by default

I think I'm in the minority opinion when it comes to Dorell

I belive he has all the tools to be a great player, but doesn’t utilize them enough. He pump fakes often it to worse shot attempts, often slacks on D even though he has good defensive ability, is often very hesitant to finish strongly in the lane or through contact, and is a bit too weak to check the average starting SF.

I like him, but I think he would be better served off the bench with Rush or Mcguire as the starter.

Yes, indeed.

But so what?

We have over a season of data telling us who Dorrel. Why should two games, even in a row, dramatically change that conclusion?

last year has nothing to do with this year or next year.

wright seems like he can not play with the system being run right now.

Dorell is an adequate player

don’t expect too much out of him though.
There’s a reason he works so cheap. Keep your expectations in line with that, and I don’t see why you would have a problem with his contributions this year…I mean, obviously, we’d all love for him to do more, but I’d like that from everyone on the team

Based on what?

His TS% is almost identical. His usage is down a little bit, but it’s not like he’s gotten a lot worse on offense (and that’s despite a really clunky start.) In a season when offenses were down – particularly early – league wide because of the lockout, the fact that his TS% is only .005 worse than it was last year gives the lie to what you’re saying.

Dorell is just fine. He is, in fact, almost exactly the same player he was last year.

shooters have slumps

Him blanking is an anomaly. And the other aspects of his game add up to a positive contribution, regardless.

His shooting will come around, but I disagree about the rest of his game

Wright has not played consistent defense at all since he’s been a Warrior. He also struggles to do anything on the offensive end when he’s defended well at the three point line.

Why do we want someone who at the very least is Dorell Wright?

If you like Dorell Wright, you don’t have to do anything. He’s already here.

J-RIDAH: Its not 1 player in this draft better than Monta or Lee. Anthony Davis is no different than Al Farouq Aminu. Andre Drummond could be good but he is not impressive at this point at all besides his size. This draft is hella overated.

lol its not like I'm claiming this is a done deal

Hawks need a big and Marvin is not working out for them. Its not TOO crazy for a deal like this to happen

I think it makes sense for ATL

If they’re delusional enough to believe Biedrins can turn things around. ATL has always believed that their best 3-4-5 would be Smith, Horford, and a true center. Unfortunately, they continue to be stuck with Williams-Smith-Horford: a bust and 2 players playing out of position.

THe only reason I'd do this

is to get rid of Bean’s contract. 2yrs/18mil with a PLAYER option for another 9 million… 3 more seasons of having Biedrins on this team actually makes me want to cry.

I don't thinks its that ridiculous by GSOM standards lol

Most trade scenerios on here are three team trades with Monta and Lee involved that move like six players to different teams. All players in this swap are average players that could use a change of scenery

Dorell vs Williams

It’s hard for me to make a judgement on comparing Marvin Williams and Dorell Wright because I haven’t really seen Williams play that much. From what I have seen, though, I think I would take Williams over Dorell. I think Williams is just as capable of a defender as Dorell, but I feel he adds a lot more inside pressure on a defense that this team needs.

On a side note, I’m baffled as to who were going to trade Dorell for (J-Ridah’s inside info) that will significantly improve this team. Always a possibility…the information could be based on Dorell inevitably being included in a trade along with a bigger piece from our roster.

Heck

I’d trade Biedrins + Wright for Williams + Hinrich.. Get a nice expiring, get rid of Biedrins, take in Williams’ big contract but that’s alright. Perhaps sign a big man after like Hamady Ndiaye, Leon Powe or Fesenko if healthy.

Hawks really need a big man for the playoffs, Biedrins aint pretty but he’s big, a good defender and might even find his confidence on a new team. Marvin wants out, I reckon Hawks do it.

I forgot about Hinrich

He’d be a nice defensive guard to get, ATL woukd porbably more interested in dealing him than Pacchulia anyway

by warriorsandgiantsfan on Feb 21, 2012 2:19 PM PST up reply actions

i like this too

was about to post this but u beat me to it! Plus Hinrich is expiring. $8mm Hinrich expiring, $7mm for Kwame gives us a few dollars to play with for next year to throw at a center (Hibbert, et all) or center and some more depth.

ATL might be more inclined to do this because they have a glut of guards with Hinrich there, and need help at the 5 with Horford out for the season and Collins out for some time too (not sure how long)

Hinrich is a good defensive guard, and we can put him on the floor with any of our guards currently (although Nate might get his minutes squeezed a little bit).

by dsham001 on Feb 21, 2012 2:24 PM PST up reply actions

I wish there was some way to get Josh Smith though

I think he would be very good on our team. Throw in Monta as well (Monta, Beans, Wright for Hinrich, Williams, Smith). I really think Horford would be way better at the 4 spot, rather than at 5, and a trade like this would allow it to happen. But, ATL would be giving up too much for that.

Zaza??

well actually, he has a lot more passion for the game than Biedrins…

and he stood up to KG. That’s pretty much the opposite of Andris.

Zaza doesn't back down.

And he gets rough with people down low. He’s not a dirty player, but he is very physical.

I think he’s kinda cool, just not very good at basketball.

It's close.

Williams rebounding and making 3s the way he is now, he’s better. Based on what they did last year, Dorell.
