Lin is turning out to be a great free agent acquisition... so far. I would have gambled on him, too, looking at his size, defense, poise and ball handling.

i like lin and i like his game.

with that said, i don’t think he would have performed this well for us anyway. He certainly looks more developed and has players who can finish and assist to. We don’t. We have assassins on the 3pt line who are sinusoidal.

I love Lin for NY, just not for US. NY has stars already and he is just a bright spot among stars.

We have no stars but we have developing players. I wish him the best and he will always be a favorite of mine.

Lin is in a better situation

The Warriors are dysfunctional from coaching staff to GM. Jeremy Lin didn’t dramatically improve as a player, he did get better the past two years, but more importantly the Knicks actually gave him a legit chance. All the kid needed was a chance. Lin killed D-league last year but he rotted on Keith Dumb’s bench all year (alongside Reggie Williams), while Acie Law got regular minutes.

It makes me wonder what Jenkins can do too

We haven’t seen too much of Jenkins and I hope he can be a guy like Lin has been for the Knicks, an energy guy who really helps out the team

CJ is a great shooter

But he has no defense and does not pass the ball well. Nate > CJ, I don’t see how CJ can play like Lin.

I like Klay’s game because he does play defense and read the play well. CJ is just a good shooter so far.

by ILoveWarriorsGirls on Feb 6, 2012 7:46 PM PST up reply actions

But he has no defense and does not pass the ball well. Nate > CJ

Are you suggesting Nate shoots and passes well?

by DubsFan408 on Feb 6, 2012 7:51 PM PST up reply actions

I am suggesting Nate plays better defense and does passing better than CJ

At least Nate does want a PG suppose to do, ball distribution and fewer turnover. Not saying Nate is perfect, but Nate is a better PG than CJ.

by ILoveWarriorsGirls on Feb 6, 2012 7:54 PM PST up reply actions

Better defense? Eh…I’m not too sure about that yet. I don’t know their specific stats, but I don’t know if Nate is a better defender. Although for the long term, I would put my money on Jenkins being the better defender because he’s got the physical tools.

by DubsFan408 on Feb 6, 2012 7:59 PM PST up reply actions

I hope so

We need someone who plays defense. We have enough Curry, Monta type of guards. As far as for all the games that Jenkins started earlier this season, I don’t see him play defense at all.

by ILoveWarriorsGirls on Feb 6, 2012 8:16 PM PST up reply actions

That’s a valid statement, but with those arms, he has potential.

by DubsFan408 on Feb 6, 2012 8:25 PM PST up reply actions

I’m skeptical of Nate. Not a single time in his entire career has he averaged at least 5.5 assists per 36, and he’s at 4.2 for his career. He’s never passed this way before, not sure he can keep it up.

by Missing Barry on Feb 6, 2012 9:10 PM PST up reply actions

skepticism is understandable.

But he wouldn’t be the first athlete to end up on the right team for the right time. I can’t really say I’m a nate fan, but how he’s been playing as of late is not terrible.

by Xtremelink on Feb 6, 2012 9:18 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

CJ’s defense has actually been a net positive for his career. It’s kind of surprising, but he does cause a ton of turnovers….

by Missing Barry on Feb 6, 2012 8:59 PM PST up reply actions

by DubsFan408 on Feb 6, 2012 10:03 PM PST up reply actions

And here we are, trying to figure out why our starters don’t play as well together as our bench. Only in Warriorsland.

by Missing Barry on Feb 6, 2012 10:39 PM PST up reply actions

I think he can put up solid numbers

NY has no PG and Lin can pass. Lin will be the starter for awhile. No I don’t think he can consistently put up 20+ point games or play 44 MPG, but I think he can get assists and more importantly, run the Knicks offense because nobody else on the Knicks can.

Might be tough when Melo and Amare are back playing big minutes. Has nothing to do with Lin – those guys just like to shoot the ball and don’t enjoy passing to others…

by Missing Barry on Feb 6, 2012 10:50 PM PST up reply actions

Nah

I think Amare could do the P&R. Besides, every team needs a PG. That’s why NY was so bad – Carmelo was the “point forward” and we all saw how that turned out. As long as Lin is willing to pass he will start. Not sure if he will continue to put up big numbers.

by doubleteapot on Feb 6, 2012 10:55 PM PST up reply actions

Ha, I don’t buy the “NY just needs a PG” stuff at all. NY is underperforming because they’re a bunch of overrated misfits that don’t belong on a team together at all. Melo has never played well with a PG before – he’s an offense stopping ball dominator. I think I could construct a successful team built around him, but it would look a lot more like the Chicago Bulls than anything – a defensive juggernaught that just lets Melo do his thing on offense and carry the load. Most other situations he just doesn’t fit well into, at least not if you’re trying to build a real championship contender. Melo and Amare are getting max money and they’re one dimensional players that are liabilities on defense….not much more needs to be said. That team has a definite limit on where it’s going.

(By the way, the Lakers will disagree on the “every team needs a PG” stuff)

by Missing Barry on Feb 6, 2012 11:01 PM PST up reply actions

theres nothing about melo that is overrated

he works in a ‘lebron’ system. and when it works… its brutal

by j-spliff415 on Feb 7, 2012 6:40 AM PST up reply actions

Hmm? He gets called a superstar, which he just isn’t. Let’s also not bring Lebron James into this conversation – they’re complete opposites. One’s a team player that contributes in every single aspect of the game – excellent defender, rebounder, scorer, passer, and overall plays very good team basketball. The other is a volume scorer who rebounds but can’t pass, doesn’t play D, and scores at an average efficiency. One’s the best player in the NBA, the other is….not a superstar.

What’s wrong with Anthony Morrow? He’s a great shooter.

Read my Advanced Stats Primer

J-RIDAH: Its not 1 player in this draft better than Monta or Lee. Anthony Davis is no different than Al Farouq Aminu. Andre Drummond could be good but he is not impressive at this point at all besides his size. This draft is hella overated.

Nothing’s wrong with Morrow. He’s fine. So is Lin. Losing them isn’t the wrath of the basketball gods, though, and two good games isn’t exactly rubbing it in our faces.

Looks like Lin found a good home with Mike D'antoni

I saw the highlights, and it looks like D’antoni’s offense really spreads out the defense, giving Lin plenty of room to use his speed and get to the hoop. I do wish him luck in New York, and that he figures out how to respond if the opponents start keying in on him. Remember when Anthony Morrow scored 37, then 25, and then opponents started defending him?

.....Minnesota forgot

Gave Morrow a lot of open looks that game and he got rolling.

by ajtrinc on Feb 6, 2012 10:09 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah he probably isn't this good

He’ll have to rely more on his passing skills as the season goes on. And he has to make that jumper if teams give it to him.

Oh BTW I couldn't find any video of that Curry pass you were talking about :(

The frustrating thing about those passes is that we’ve all seen him make the correct pass. He just for some reason keeps making bad decisions. I think Mark Jackson really needs to work with him in the offseason and teach him about decision making.

You checked overtime?

It was right before he got subbed out and Nate came back in.

But oh well, if you can’t find it, don’t worry about it. At least you raised awareness about Curry not paying attention to detail. Something to keep an eye on now in the upcoming games.

Yeah, and now he’s averaging 18 pts/36 minutes, the most in his career. His TS% is 58.7%. Morrow’s a great shooter. Still is.

I think you’re kind of missing the point here – we’re just observing that two huge games isn’t that big of a deal, especially if it causes D’s to take notice of you and defend you differently.

by Missing Barry on Feb 7, 2012 11:15 AM PST up reply actions

yeah, just like Warriors got to the playoff once in 17 years is not a big deal

not to mention we are on the path to the tank down for at least another 2~5 years… no big deal…

by Missing Barry on Feb 7, 2012 11:23 AM PST up reply actions

Don't get it

I don’t understand why Missing Barry is such a Jeremy Lin hater. The arguments he is making are irrational and this poster seems to have a major bias against Jeremy Lin no matter what Lin does.

I’m so glad Jeremy Lin is shining elsewhere because naysayers like Missing Barry were probably saying Lin was only in the league last year as a marketing ploy instead of recognizing the kid actually had legit NBA skills.

by BayMind on Feb 8, 2012 1:31 PM PST up reply actions

Nope, I have nothing negative to say about Lin, and if you look through everything I’ve said about him the last few days, you won’t find a single comment along the lines of “I don’t think he’s an NBA player”. The closest you’ll get is stuff along the lines of “two games is a very small sample”, which is a very true point.

by Missing Barry on Feb 8, 2012 1:47 PM PST up reply actions

Good Stuff...

Liked him from what I saw of him briefly on the big club and the couple of games I caught while he was in the NBDL. Hope he continues to get a shot in New York to prove himself.

Just a shame the FO decided to let him go considering the team has had PG depth issues for quite a few seasons.

by ajtrinc on Feb 6, 2012 10:22 PM PST reply actions

Glad to see Lin getting a chance to shine

I wish we kept him, but it was pretty apparent that he was NEVER going to produce like this for us(or the Rockets for that matter). Lin has always struck me as the kind of player who needed a lot of minutes in order to succeed. He does his best work when he’s able to consistently handle the ball, control the offense, and establish a defensive prescence on his man. Lin was never going to start or get minutes over Stephen Curry, and Monta is a player who will have to ball in his hands often when Steph is off the floor.

Overall the Knicks are a perfect fit for Lin’s strengths. They needed a PG who could play solid defense and bring stability to a scattered Knick offense. I think if Lin continues to produce at around this level, its going to introduce an interesting dilemma for the Knicks when Baron Davis is ready to play. Who starts and who comes of the bench?
