Kentucky Freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Excelling in All Areas for Wildcats
Excellent article on why, I'm beginning to believe Kidd-Glilchrist is the #2 prospect in the draft. Add the fact he's really young, and considered most coachable player, a gym rat, and a leader. I really think his true upside is closer to a SF version of Wade or Westbrook than Wallace/Marion.
His off ball play goes without saying, his defense goes without saying (holding opponents to 2-18 shooting inside the 3 point line?!). The iso-situational scoring numbers really surprised me. 1.33 points per possession!? He's getting to line nearly 6 times per 36 (excellent for an 18 year old). Not a bad passer.
With so many raw tools, already productive play as a young freshman, and all the intangibles scouts and coaches croon over, I think he's a great prospect.

Could Michael Kidd Gilchrist Be the Next Derrick Rose?

The first link in article, shows why I think he's got a lot more potential than Wallace or Marion

- and #7- excellent footwork, penetration ability. At his age, that’s pretty advanced.
He’s got the frame and tools to take it inside on NBA players. I think he’ll easily be one of those guys who averaged 8-10 FTA’s a game. And his feet suggest, he can learn to use some post game, and midrange game.
just read my sig
we obviously don’t need him, since we Lee and Ellis, and we’re going after Javale McGee
J-RIDAH: Its not 1 player in this draft better than Monta or Lee. Anthony Davis is no different than Al Farouq Aminu. Andre Drummond could be good but he is not impressive at this point at all besides his size. This draft is hella overated.
(JaVale) Mcgee is better than anybody in this draft.
Sadly enough… the front office might legitimately believe that.

Did he really say McGee is better than any prospect in the draft? There are so many different ways I could refute such a stupid statement (almost lost in a sea amongst other stupid statements) that my head is spinning right now.
j ridah says a lot of things

Me: So who (from the 2011 draft class) compares with (Anthony) Davis?

Why did the headline writer feel compelled to include the phrase “for Wildcats”?
There will be no extra point!
Good point

How much do you think a position like that pays?
Said it before and I'll say it again
This guy is my favorite prospect in the draft. I love Curry, but if trading him means the W’s keep their pick and get Kidd-Gilchrist, I’d do it in a second.
MKG has been my favorite prospect all year
Hope we find a way to trade up to get him, he’d be a great SF to build around.

Do you think he's anything more than a role player?

Totally if he develops correctly
He’s got the motor and all the intangibles, and synergy numbers show he’s far more skilled than your typical off ball slasher who plays D.
1.33 ppp on iso’s is very good. He drives well, and is physical, thus draws contact
Kidd-Gilchrist Reminds Calipari Of Rose
“He reminds me of Derrick Rose,” Calipari said. “He’s tougher on himself than I am on him. Like he came running over during the game and says to me, ‘Coach, I’m sorry.’ I said, ‘Stop, just have fun and go play.’”

Sold!
Calipari is totally an objective source who isn't trying to further his reputation of getting his players high picks in the draft?

Yes and No
His comment was only on the kid’s motor and drive. This has been a re-occuring comment among coaches and scouts, so I believe it. At same time, you could see this being a potential negative if he struggles, mental issues etc. Unlikely though.
Besides, if Calipari’s kids ‘bust’ heavily, it’ll hurt his rep more. He doesn’t talk up kids who don’t have the talent.
As for Calipari, well he did say DeMarcus was a huge talent, but would take a coach who really connects with him.
His comments on cousins-
“People are making a big-time mistake on this kid,” Calipari told FanHouse by phone leading up to the draft. “I’ve never coached a player who has come as far as fast as he did. … Maturity-wise, basketball-wise, he has got to grow there, but he has come a long way.”
“In my opinion, he should be a top three pick,” said Calipari, who coached Evans at Memphis and was consulted by the Kings regarding his former players both then and now. “He’s not even close to how good he can be.”
Calipari acknowledges the challenges that come with Cousins, like the time he sat down on the side of the court during a mandated conditioning test early in his freshman year.
“I told him, ‘You can sit and watch, but do you understand that if you can’t make it through conditioning then you can’t be a starter?’” Calipari said. “Then all of a sudden, he started breaking barriers.”
“I coached him like he was my son, and he needs that,” he said. “In fact, he and my (13-year-old) son (Brad) would play video games and I’d say (to Cousins), ‘You guys are the same age.’ He’s one of those kids that needs to be hugged, loved. Don’t act like he’s a grown man. He’s a growing man.”

Don’t think anything is offbase there. Cousins is a huge talent. He’s yet to become close to as good as he can be, or in general an effective bball player. None of that’s surprising, though since Smart took over, he has played better.
Wall, is an obvious talent. His production in college spoke for itself, better than Rose. I still think he’s insanely talented, but in an awful situation. I tend to agree with David Thorpe’s POV, aside from a few young guys like Lebron, Durant etc. almost all young players need to be in right situation to really reach their potential. Siting Westbrook if he went to another team could be a big bust. A decent example of this is Anthony Randolph/Brandan Wright. Players who come to NBA at 18-19-20 are so imcomplete, you need the right situation, staff, organization to develop them.
That’s why Riley’s attitude on ‘college seasoned players’ is so frustrating…
Underrated rebounder at nearly 8 a game (7th in the SEC) for a relatively small 6’7" SF. He’s very physical, which would easily rub off on everyone else. If we do draft keep our pick, he’ll most likely be gone way before us.

wouldn't it suck if we had made a trade that involved losing our draft pick?
that would be like totally depressing and stuff because this is going to be a very deep draft

i wish in like 2003, the warriors had just traded every first rounder for 2012 first rounders
and they had like 10 picks in this draft. why has no one ever thought of this?
